Well I'm home now. The interview went well. I'm still not sure tho. We'll see what happens. They want one person for only 4 hours a week. 4 days a week for 1 hour a day. So it's not a lot and I would still be available for my kids' teachers to volunteer as well. The exact schedule isn't set in stone yet and this is where I have an advantage. I'm incredibly flexible with my time so it really doesn't matter when the hours fall during the day. The principal said they should be making their decision by the end of today at the earliest Monday morning and I will know by Tuesday afternoon and then go spend all morning Wednesday morning at the district office taking care of paperwork and what not, then right over to the school for my shift. If I get the job I will also have to attend the kindergarten open house next Tuesday.

But there is bad news coming from our school today. Very sad news in fact. One of our favorite cafeteria ladies went in for a heart valve surgery yesterday. They thought it was going to be a routine surgery and didn't anticipate any major problems, but once they got into her chest things were much worse then expected. Mrs. F died in surgery. Her son was Ethan's soccer coach so we know that family really well, between soccer and school.
And our Art teacher's daughter took a turn for the worse and her doctors are now saying, baring a miracle, she will likely not make it past Christmas. The school already has subs scheduled for her for the first 3 months of school. I told the principal that I would do whatever was needed in the art department too, just to help out.

So now I wait. If I get a call by Tuesday morning I've got the job. If not well I'll try for the next one.

Blessings,

Garsy

Garcy,

You so totally have that job. And my aunt started a job like that but it was two hours a day. Within a year, she was pretty much full time, and now she is full time. That is how it works.

Ok, so here is the scoop on my student. I had my home visit today and while the woman was here, she called the guy above her who said he faxed the file over to the principal yesterday and has not yet heard back from him.

So before she left, I called the principal and talked to him. He was very much liking himself I guess would be a nice way to put it, and it seemed to me as if he was trying to make me feel very little. I do come across sweet and quiet, but not when people act like that.

I was on the phone with him for 5 minutes and every time he had a different excuse, I brought up the one he made before, and made it very clear that WHEN my student got here, I was going to have to get him registered and signed up for the sports he wants to participate in. I made it very clear to him that school was starting soon, I needed to shop for supplies and that we were all done with our home visit and were waiting on him. I didn't hang up until he told me that my student was approved for our school.

So, now we just need him to sign and fax the paper over, background checks to be done, and our references need to get their butts home from vacation so they can talk to these people, and I have myself a 16 year old boy.

He has been speaking English for 9 years so that should be very helpful and I he is coming over with a girl also from China who will be attending our church so that will be a good thing to because he will be able to see her every week. I so totally can't believe I am doing this. My kids are so excited to have found yet another "brother". By the time this is all over with my poor Kay is going to be so confused between the siblings who live here, my husband's son and now this tall skinny guy who is moving in.

So when we pick him up from the airport, he is going to be so wiped out and this is what is going to happen. Kay is going to just hang onto his leg and look at him and giggle the entire time. Kali is going to try to educate him about everything she can in 5 minutes and Jake is going to just hang back and watch.

I can't wait to see all of this play out. He likes art and my husband's son who lives in IL also loves art so they will have something in common too. I have never done this before, but it is so exciting. I think. No, I am sure. I am just nervous because I am taking someone else's child into my home and basically raising them for a school year.

Don't know if any of you noticed that Kara has kinda been MIA. This is what I found elsewhere on the boards:

quote:

Caleb was born last night at 8:59pm EST (8-14-08) ... my midwife induced me at 3pm, and he was born 6 hours later. I was discharged at 10 this morning. He weighed in at 7lbs, 14oz (my heaviest baby) ... and was 20 1/4 inches long.

So congrats Kara!! See I told you it wouldn't be long!!
I only wish I felt good enough to go home after 11 hours! With my 3rd I couldn't even stand on my own yet as he came out at such an angle that I dislocated my hip giving birth!!

Welcome little man!

Blessings,

Garsy

Wow! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I was just at my family reunion today and everyone had their new babies and I got that itch. It doesn't matter since we can't have anymore, but I still want one. On the upside, my friend brought over the cutest, fluffiest puppy the other day. But DH said no. He said an extra child is enough.

School starts in less that two weeks and I have no clue what to expect. Our carpool is all different, I am going to have an extra kid to wake up and get ready in the morning, and I have one that I am going to babysit.

I think I like summer.

Garsy, congrats on the (probably) job. But that's a rough way to start the school year. My kids to go a Baptist school and the music minister there died last night. He had a heart attack last week and was discharged Friday and rushed back last night with another apparent heart attack. This is the same church where the Senior Pastor (and one of his children) died in plane crash right before school finished for the summer. Now we start school with this. I went to church there this morning while dh took the kids to our church. It was hard but I wanted to be there for some of my friends. Our Assistant Principal and dd's new teacher are both in the choir, along with several others. This church has just been hit with so much already. To lose both of them back to back suddenly breaks my heart. This wont be quite as hard on the kids since he wasn't involved in the school very much which, I guess is good.

Oh wow. Sometimes things can be so hard. We had a teacher who was pregnant and her water bag burst and killed her and the baby. It was so sad when that happened. She was a great teacher, young, and everybody loved her. Is the school going to have grief counselors available?

The church's children's ministers are available but, really, any kids who knew him or would be really affected were at church today. There may be some just upset by the teachers being so upset but hopefully having today to absorb it will help. We were in school when we found out about Pastor and his son.

For the first week of school, we're dealing with just more sadness and their schedules being messed up by a huge funeral and very possibly a hurricane. We'll see. This church has amazed me by their strength and grace but it's just so much.

Well I'm throughly depressed. Just went through ALL of Ethan's clothes and he has maybe 2 decent pairs of jeans that fit him. Ethan is overweight and we are working on this but until he start losing some weight I don't know what we are going to do for school, especially if sizes don't change before the weather gets colder. He is also SHORT, so things that do fit him of his brother's are like 6-8 inches too long!

We were supposed to go to a cub scout fishing derby today - but there was just to much disobedience and arguing with me. I said no. I'll call the cub master tomorrow or later and simply tell him the deal. My kids miss out on special events when I can't get them to listen and work with me and Ethan already has his Fishing belt loop anyway.

At our school, I know that with the opening assembly the kids are going to be made aware of some of the changes that have happened over the summer. The counselor is going to let the kids know about Mrs. F. Mrs. F. does have grandkids that attend our school. She is going to let everyone know about Mrs. C. and her dd too. Everyone is SO attached to both of those ladies that I'm certain our counselor and principal will be busy dealing with this too. We've also lost a teacher this year to retirement. He was going to come back as a 4th grade teacher but decided that teaching science is what he really wanted to do and if he couldn't teach science he was going to retire and go back as a long term missionary to Africa! He took a short term trip (6 weeks) last summer and almost didn't want to come back. He will be missed greatly! But alas we will survive and most will thrive regardless.

Blessings,

Garsy

Well, your church has a very strong understanding of who is really in charge then. You can always tell a church who is dedicated to putting God in control. You seem to have one. Not all can do that.

From the outside, and to nonChirstians, I wonder if it looks like this church is being struck down or abandoned by God or something. Two weeks before Pastor died, they moved into a new humongous - absolutely gorgeous new sanctuary (that, sadly, I've only been in twice - the day they found the plane and this morning). And there was some talk of a Pastor flying his own plane, blah, blah, blah. And now this. If you're looking to put a reason or explanation on things like this, you can come up with all kinds of crazy things, I guess. But there's just no reason or answer, only faith. But from the inside, even as an "outsider" like me, you could see the hearts and love and joy of those two men, and this whole church.

We've had so many changes over the summer! It might be a rocky week, weather and all. Current projections have Fay right on top of us Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Yippee.

We might have a three-day first week of school. I'm expecting school to be cancelled Tuesday and Wednesday - surely it wont be any worse than that!!

I belonged to a church where it seemed as if the pastors were doomed from the time they got there. They all died. Now the pastor at that church has been around a while and in good health, both his wife and son are sick. I am not sure about his son, but his wife is not well at all. So it is odd that it seems as if things like that seem to happen in certian places or to certian groups.

I also know a family who I am so happy not to be a part of. One of their kids died as a young adult. Then one that was a year younger than me got brain cancer in her early 20s, but she went into remission. Then there was a car accident with one of the other kids and from what I heard, a baby was lost (pregnancy) and the father. Then, the girl who had brain cancer came out of remission and ended up dying around the age of 30ish.

I would hope that I can stand and say it is all part of God's plan and be strong through things like that, but even as I type those things, I get this creepy feeling and so I am not too sure. I guess it is time to re-examine my own trust.

For those churches

I still have J and X home sick. X is starting to sound a little better, but still not brilliant.

first day already???? I don't know if I want to do this. While I love having my kid in school and getting time to actually clean my house, cook meals and run errands, I hate the thought of the hectic schedule that is about to hit us.

J and X are back to school today. We'll see how they go. They're both still coughing, but nowhere nearly as severely as they were. And they really can't afford to miss any more school.

How much have they missed? When did they start? Did they miss the beginning of the year?!?! That stinks! My dd's not quite up to par, I've been trying to make her rest up over the weekend but she was still borderline today - I sent her for the first day and now we'll have tomorrow to rest up some more since school is cancelled. It stinks but I think she needs it.

On my ds' first day of Kindergarten, dh and I were travelling back from Jamaica - I was so upset and feeling guilty to miss it!! But my aunt was watching him. She said he didn't feel well but she took him to kindergarten and then took him to the pediatrician that afternoon - poor baby had a raging case of strep throat! It would've been terrible to miss the first day of Kindergarten but the doctor said he really shouldn't have been around other kids! I felt terrible! And then he did miss the next couple of days.

It's no fun when they're sick. And now, they're not in Kindergarten anymore - there's a high price to pay in make up work and missed info to miss any school time. I really hate to have to keep mine home!

Hang in there.

Being that we're in Australia, they've missed a week and one day in the middle of 3rd term, but we had two Public Holidays last week, so they've officially only missed four days.

Kids came home happy today.

I came home from work sick at about 10.30am. I've caught whatever they had.

I did buy J new tracksuit pants today. He's finally starting to grow again. We've gone a year and a half with the same length trousers (not complaining about not having to buy new stuff, but I have been wondering when he would start growing again).

X, his little sister, is taller than he is which he absolutely hates.

Kylie-I'm glad that your children are feeling better!

DS had a good day yesterday but was exhausted. It's not quite as exciting to wake up on the 2nd day of school.

I've already decided that I'm too miserable to go to work tomorrow. I'm going to try to sleep in until nearly 8.30am (when I'll have to ring work). Dh has already said he will take J and X to school.
