My husband and I were in alot of debt not too long ago. We decided that we can't pay off our home loan, but we can do without credit cards. It has been very hard and we have had to sacrifice alot, but at the same time, we created a budget that is allowing us to pay off our debts, but treat ourselves to some things so that we don't feel like prisoners of debt. So if I were to get extra money, I would take most of it to pay what is left on our bills, and the rest to savings. When the bills are gone, probably half to savings, and half to home loan so that we can pay that off sooner. It is a real drag when you see what your house actually does cost you if you have a 30 year mortgage even at a low interest rate. We already pay extra on our homeloan by paying half of our payment every other week. That is taking 7 years off of our very new loan, but I would like to take more off.
