I did all the way up to 1981. Then I would play them if the artist was either exceptionally good or if somehow the song's B-side made it onto the radio as well.
Here were some of my favorites:
- How Deep Is Your Love/You Can't Keep A Good Man Down-Bee Gees
- You Light Up My Life-Hasta Manana-Debby Boone
- Runaway/Hot Water-Jefferson Starship
- Y.M.C.A./The Women-Village People
- Pop Muzak/M Factor-M
- I Can't Tell You Why/The Greeks Don't Want No Freaks-Eagles
And some from the 1980's:
- Freeze Frame/Flamethrower-The J. Geils Band
- I Drink Alone/Willie and the Handjive-George Theorogood and the Deleware Destroyers
- Behind The Wall of Sleep/Blood and Roses-The Smithereens
- Once In A Lifetime/This Must Be The Place (Niave Medley)-Talking Heads
Now thats just to name a few, I am sure I will think of many more!

I got the "oldie" version of "How Deep is Your Love" that had "Stayin Alive" on the B side. So yes, I listened to that B side. 
Also had an oldie 45 of Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road / Bennie and the Jets. Also, The Beatles' Hey Jude / Get Back.
I used to get a 45 every week. I guess it was part of my allowance.
Here's one I remember: "Hard Times" from Kiss. Can anyone name the song that was on the A side (hint late 70s, if I said the year or album it would be too easy, that in itself should be a hint).
I can't think of too many B sides I played offhand. If I do I'll post them.

Blood and Roses was the B-side.
I thought of a couple more since my last post:
- When Doves Cry/17 Days-Prince and the Revolution (but I believe that the B-side was only credited as Prince and the B-side also had a super long subtitle also.
- I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For/Spanish Eyes/Deep In The Heart (double 33 1/3 RPM B-side)(but I only liked Spanish Eyes Though.)
- Where The Streets Have No Name/Silver and Gold/The Sweetest Thing (double 33 1/3 RPM B-side)

What's a 45? I'm too young to remember those things! 
I remember playing my dad's 78's. Those big thick heavy things that only had room for one song on a 12" disc.
I tended to buy albums rather than 45's. Of course they used to just cost a few bucks in a far distant age.

But the B-sides stuff you usually couln't get on the album. You had to wait 20 more years for their box set!
I remember going into Woolworth's and seeing the singles on sale for $0.75 each or 3 for $ 1.50. Remember the compilation double albums from K-Tel?
The best deal I got this year for a new CD was the Best Buy version (4 extra songs) of Alter Bridge's "Blackbird" for $ 9.97. Not bad for over an hour of music. Family Christian stores usually has at least one CD on sale
for $5 for members and membership is free! I could be a shill for that place!

I had a double K-tel albums for both Disco Rocket and The Hit List As well.
Now some stuff was non-LP b-sides, and others were from the albums too, but just weren't considered hit-ready at all. Then later on they would re-release some as a-sides instead, go figure!
Ok, here are a few more:

I think that the most famous one more recently (within the past 10 years) was the reissue of The Sweetest Thing by U2. I read just today that they actually re-recorded it instead. Oh well, I guess I will have to give the original another spin whenever I get a new turntable instead.
And on the K-tel "Goofy Greats", Ronco put out their own version called "Funny Bone Favorites" as well.

That's not surprising Phillip Kives (Mr. K-Tel) and Ron Popeil (Mr. Ronco) have a business relationship going back to the early 70's.

Ok, here are a few more that I thought of since my last posting:
- Disco Inferno/Thats Where The Happy People Go-The Trammps (this was the actual original issue)
- Rock Me Amadeus (An American Edit)/(Canadian Version)-Falco (The so-called Canadian version had the history lesson only on it instead.)
- 99 Luft Balloons/99 Red Balloons-Nena (the German version was actually considered the hit A-side of the record, even if some cities played the B-side instead.)

Ok, here are even more that I thought of, not all are of the Rock & Roll genre though.
the 80s:
- Calling All Girls/Putting Out Fire-Queen
- Lets Dance”/Cat People (Putting Out Fire)-David Bowie
- The Power of Love/Bad is Bad-Huey Lewis and the News
- Rock & Roll Girls/Centerfield-John Fogerty (2 sided hit single) released as the 2nd and 3rd single.

- We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You-Queen (yes, I know that it is played in the opposite sequence, but technically it was a 2-sided single and We Are The Champions was the A side.

Indeed, although I have to give the slight edge to The Grand Illusion. IMHO that and Pieces of Eight are their high points. I wasn't a fan of "Cornerstone", liked "Paradise Theater" then after that meh.
Funny story: I heard "The Best of Times" years before I heard "Rockin' The Paradise". Imagine my surprise when "...Paradise" kicked it after having nearly the same intro as the "The Best of Times".

Its possible, however I was very young when it came out and I was only listening to Top 40 radio at the time. Oh btw, I thought that the B-side to Mr. Roboto was Snowblind instead?

I never bought the 2 disc version of U2's greatest hits 1980-1990 because I had all of the songs that mattered back in the day. When they did the singles for the Joshua Tree songs they released each song with 2 B-sides on the 12" format. Until they release a set with Celebration I will continue to ignore any of their collections out of spite. :P
I used to always listen to B Sides but all of the good ones I can think of were mentioned except the "Immigrant's Song" which had "Hey Hey What Can I Do?" Which I had a cassingle of. :D It was originally released that way. I really liked "That's the Way" the flip side of Karma Chameleon because it was mostly a piano, Boy George and Helen Terry singing a soulful song that was pretty cool. "Gotta Boogie" by Wierd Al that was the flip side of "Another One Rides the Bus". (Gotta Boogie on my finger and I can't shake it off...)

The only thing with B-side of the TK Records release of Another Rides The Bus was that it wasn't all that good. He did a much better version on his self-titled Debut Album instead.

Three Dog Night - Black & White/Writing's On The Wall
These were my favorite 45's when my musical tastes were forming.
Elton John was the main artist for whom I felt I had to pick up all the 45s - because he made a regular practice of using non-album tracks as the B-sides. Most artists I liked during my singles buying days just used another track off the most recent album for a B-side. Not Elton.

Another awesome U2 B-Side that I don't think was mentioned is "Halleluja Here She Comes" the flip side of "Desire". I didn't have that one though.

I didn't know there was more than one version. For that single my dad was a bus driver and was in a store and seen like 10 copies of it and bought them all for his co-workers and such. Is it really worth trying to find the redo of it to listen to? hehe
