What about rice&beans, tofu, lentils for non-meat, non-diary protein?

I think it is kind of normal to lose some of their hair, esp at the back where they lay etc. Where is he losing it?

Yeah I think that is kind of normal Jae. I know friends of ours have had babies lose that first hair and have nothing for quite awhile, unlike my two hairy kids :P

Ummm I haven't noticed smelly gas in a baby before. Is he eating solids yet? Have you ate anything unusual lately? How are his poops?

lol....wanna see pics of my kids just to prove it is normal? All of mine have lost the baby baby hair (usually around his age)

stinky gas....welcome to the world of boys!!!!

funny hair story.....my older brother and his wife don't have kids and are hardly ever around kids....he is a technology genius, very smart kind of guy, but my brother is clueless when it comes to babies. When Emma was 4-5mo we were visiting my mom and got to spend some time with my brother/sil. He asked me (in all seriousness) WHY I shaved her head in the back where she lost her hair....lol. When he said that his wife just rolled her eyes at him. He may be a brain, but he really is clueless about kids!!!

Jae, all mine lose a lot of hair at some point. It's always shocking because they're born with so much hair.

But it always grows back!

Mine haven't lost hair, but boy did I when I was little... and it grew back standing straight up! My mom and dad nicknamed me Spike for a little while.

Lincoln had tons and tons of hair when he was born. By 4 months he was almost completely bald. It'll grow back, but it might take a while.

Nicole, whole grains have protein too. You can eat oatmeal, or add ground flaxseed to foods. The gas that is caused by beans usually is not as severe as gas caused by dairy. You can minimize that by changing the water several times when cooking the beans. Your body will also adjust to the fiber in beans.

If you aren't a beany person, lentils, split peas, and garbanzos (mmm......hummus) have the same nutritional benefits without tasting like beans.

Avocado has protein too. You could make guacamole and have corn chips. Gluten & dairy free, and very yummy.

(((Nicole))) First GD, and now your son's alergies. You've been on a diet roller coaster this past year!

Akeelah never lost any hair. Everyone kept saying, oh she'll lose her hair, and she never did. Which was somewhat nice for me. Akeelah never really had the soft and fine baby hair that most are born with. I can't imagine how I would control it if it was any thicker!

My babies had some hair when they were born and lost it all by 4 months. Bald babies are adorable!!! It all started growing back in quickly at around a year old.

Stinky gas -- Isabel had stinky toots off and on at just a few months old and I thought it was strange, LOL. But she was fine. I don't know what caused it, since she was just BF. Maybe something I ate.

nicole....someone said about beans...I was going to say that too. they won't cause as much gas if you change the water a few times in the cooking of them. rice and beans together make a complete protein. I was also going to say avocados are yum and are a good protein. Someone posted exactly what I would have said....lol. ok, went up and looked...it was prudent...she sure is smart!!!

I was going to mention that Akeelah eats a lot of rice and peas (kidney beans) and we've never had a problem with gas. I do understand that Nath has a problem with gas, but maybe try a small amount to see how he is.

Akeelah has never been a big meat eater so we try to give her rice and peas whenever we can in an attempt to make sure she has enough protein.

Gabby's hair got a little thinner, but it looked more like her head was growing and her hair just spread out It's getting thick again though, and it's SUPER long on top, even though it's only about 2 inches long on the sides/back.

Ryanne, my friends baby (who actually looks a lot like Gabby, it's weird) has the same thing, the top keeps growing super long and down into her face, but the sides and back is barely growing.

I'm waiting for Akeelah's hair to start growing down!

Mary was the same, everyone commented on her hair and then told me she would certainly lose it all. She didn't lose it at all! By 4 months I could easily put her hair in pig tails.

Janine, is there ALWAYS a reason for you to have stinky gas? Sometimes it just happens, as long as it isn't bothering him then there is no real reason to worry.

What often happens is that if you only eat beans now and again, they cause wind (gas). BUT if you eat them regularly, the body adapts to the chemicals and deals with it without causing any wind. I read about a woman on a baked bean diet who said she passed a lot of wind in the first 2-3 days, but then after that no wind at all.

That completely makes sense Manda!

And since we're on the subject of flatulence.....Akeelah's gas has never smelled bad, but man is it loud! One day she let some out and I blamed Dh before it because I did not think it was possible that much noise could come out of a baby!

Nicole, if you wanna make not gassy beans, don't follow the directions on the package. You can soak the beans overnight, but it's not necessary. Boil the beans for 15 minutes, then dump the water and rinse the beans (that's the most important part). Then boil the beans (with salt and a cut up onion) uncovered for around 2.5 hours (or however long it takes) adding water periodically. If you think you may not be able to add water soon, like if you're trying to get Nath down for a nap, just put it on medium low with a lid during that time so you don't run out of water and burn the beans. If you burn the beans, you can still save the beans that are on the top. You can make a very large batch and freeze them in the juice. It will thaw a different consistensy, but still good. You can even test them out on Grace and Arch and see if they get gas. Hehehe. My kids eat pinto beans and Mexican rice a couple times a week because it's cheap, healthy and Timmy is so picky, but they don't really get gassy from them as long as I boil them uncovered and don't simmer them with a lid.
