We've waited until six months to try anything and then didn't push it. All three of mine weren't really interested until 8 or 9 months. Then they attempt to eat us out of house and home!

This is definitely the most important part. Some babies do NEED it sooner than six months and are ready for it. Probably not most, but some do. You've just got to watch them and see when the time is right.

I was planning to do baby led solids, but now I'm not so sure. David is just such a hungry boy. He seems to eat constantly. If he keeps eating like this I might try starting solids at 4 or 5 months.

Well, Nathan wasn't reaching out for solid food, but he was nursing at an insane pace, and I personally reached a point where he would either be getting formula or solids. I offered him a little bit of solid food, and he responded well on his first try. He wasn't quite sitting up then, but he didn't have any trouble with choking, and he usually enjoyed his solids meals.
So, you can always try offering, and see how he reacts. If he likes it, great, if not back off and wait another month.

Right now this is David's "schedule." Of course sometimes it varies, but not by much. I feed on demand, but he seems to "demand" every 2 hours during the day. And no, he really does not sleep during the day. He has an occasional catnap (15-20 minutes) in my arms or in the car, but not often.
8:00 pm-9:00 pm Nurse
9:30 pm 3 oz formula
10:00 pm-4:30 am Sleep
4:30 am 3 oz formula
5:00 am-7:30 am Sleep
7:30 am 3 oz formula
8:00 am-10:00 am Sleep
10:00 am 4 oz breast milk
12:00 noon 4 oz breast milk
2:00 pm 4 oz breast milk
4:00 pm 4 oz breast milk
6:00 pm 4 oz breast milk

That's actually a relatively normal schedule for a newborn. Our Pediatrician said they should be eating 8-10 times a day, which is about what David is doing. Also, he's cluster feeding at night which is wonderful! That is probably why he sleeps so well at night. Gabby had almost exactly the same schedule.

So he eats 29 oz plus whatever he gets in that hour he nurses. Is that a normal amount? Maybe I just feel like I am feeding him all day because it takes him 20-30 minutes to finish a bottle and then after he eats I pump for 20 minutes. He doesn't sleep at all during the day which seems odd to me. I have never heard of a newborn staying awake for 12 hours straight. Also, if he is awake he is usually in my arms. Right now he is in his bouncy seat while I bounce him with my foot, type, and eat lunch. He is not happy unless I am holding him or bouncing him, and he will only tolerate the bouncy seat for a short time. He hates his swing and being carried in a sling.

We tried with Hunter at 4.5 months, but his belly wasn't ready and in all honestly neither was Momma. So he did not start solids until 5.5-6 months. Even then we went slowly with solids, I think he was about 10 months old before he was getting three square meals a day.We tried the cereals, but he never really cared for them. So I started with veggies and then fruits, then I went from there.

Solids:
We started around 4 months. It might have even been earlier. Chase had super head control, he could hold his head up really well. By that time he was watching us eat, and reaching out for our food. We started with really really thinned out rice cereal. We stuck with the rice cereal for quite a while. I mixed it with breast milk to start out with, and then eventually with formula.
I don't know if anyone else has opinions about it, but Nestle makes two kinds of rice cereal, the "add milk/breastmilk" or the "just add water". I would stick with the kind that you add milk to, then you can use breastmilk or formula. I just don't trust what milk products they use in the just add water kind.
I actually use Heinz cereals, but I don't know if you have them in the US?

I use Heinz cereals too yolanda and their jar fruits too.
So sarah are you nursing off the other side now? I thought I remember you saying that with the other kids you couldnt nurse off one side?

That was our main reason with Akeelah. At 4 months she was taking more than 32 oz of formula a day, it was insane. That was in a 12 hour period (she slept through the night for 12 hours). Even with the solids, she still took a lot of formula. When we realized she had the other signs (tongue, holding her head, interest in our food) we were on it!

Yeah, I remember by around 11 months, Nathan was having 4, sometimes 5 meals of solids a day, and still nursing 6-8 (or more) times a day. He ate like crazy!

Well that's good Sarah that there are no problems thus far!
What are some protein things that aren't dairy?! Nath has meat at dinner time but that's it.
