Indeed. The problem is that too many unworthy shepherds were able to con millions of followers. Ignorance, carnality, and lack of common sense led to many of the denominations that exist today. Those things also corrupted much of what was already in place.

Wherever there is a man, there is sin. Indeed, even among the original 12 disciples there was one who fell into sin. To believe that the Church will not have leaders who are sinners and who fail is unrealistic and unscriptural in my opinion. Yet despite the failings of men who are placed in leadership positions, I put my trust in the promise of Our Lord. The actions of those unworthy shepherds will in the long run, be unable to destroy Christ's Church. :)
