Our notes are the teachers' thoughts written out in full sentences and paragraphs, in structured order. During the service, some teachers follow the notes, adding in thoughts along the way and taking questions as well. Other teachers may never even look at the notes but may feel led to take off in a completely different direction; we still get the notes, however, and thus are benefited by two lessons! [:)] Then other lessons are in between these two ideas.

When I miss a service, I have really missed something, and I feel a personal loss, but at least, there will be some leftover notes for me to take home -- that's nice. I missed last weekend. Very regrettable.

Imagine the "fun" a first century Jew would have had, among the things that were considered work (and therefore not to be done on the Sabbath) was writing...they couldn't take notes on their Rabbi's Sabbath message until after sunset (the official end of the day) and no tapes or cds for many centuries.
Rabbis typically did not give long expositions on scripture; most gave a short drash (teaching) based on the torah portion for that week. Congregants also (unless outrageously wealthy) could not afford to own their own torah and haftara scrolls.

We do know that Paul got long-winded in his drashes, turning them into lengthy sermons. Perhaps this is one reason the early messianic community met on havdalah, after sundown Saturday evening, so they could take notes...

deermousie If your church won't record it, then get a recorder and do it yourself. The quality won't be as good, but it's better than nothing.

That is how many if not all sermon taping/Cd making ministries started. You tape for your own use, someone else says "Oh, can I have a copy too?" and the next thing you know your church has a tape ministry!
