WhiteRoseBlessings -> Which USB cable do I buy? (7/17/2008 10:09:26 AM)

Hey y'all,

I am considering purchasing THIS HP laser printer.

Would THIS USB cable be compatible with it? The description says it is compatible with HP printers . . . does that mean any / all HP printers? (I know I could send the seller an email asking the same question, but at the moment, I'd rather ask y'all).

Browsing through eBay, I found there are different types of USB cables . . . I've never known this nor cared about it; prior to now, the USB cables have always been included in whatever I've purchased.

Oh my word!
. . . I'm now telling, "Back when I was a kid . . ." stories.

Thanks for y'all's help!

I am by no means an expert on computers. It looks lke, from the pictures, the USB cable would be compatible however, to make sure I would purchase the printer first and look at the USB port on the printer to make sure. USB cables are not expensive and you could pick one up locally to make sure it works.

I just had a look at the HP website and the cable is not included. It does require a USB 2.0 port. So any high speed USB 2.0 cable should work. Hope this helps.

Best Regards
Jon

Yes.

USB cables are standard, unless it says otherwise.

How 'bout a tin can and a string?

Is that a Universal String Bin cable Ben?

Yes, they are compatible. No, there is no such thing as a usb cable that fits just one company's product, but most printers (including mine)--in fact a lot of things use the USB A to B cable (A is flat, B is more squarish) so its not a wild claim that it will work with all HP printers....

That is an A to B cable, so it will work.

Having said that, Circuit City has it for 10-15 bucks less, and you can pick it up a few minutes after you order it, and have less hassle with returns. If I lived near a CC, I'd go with them. Its only 53 in the cart, compared to 79 at Ebay.

EDIT: just to clarify, the HP page info for the P1005 says that it needs an A to B cable.

And if you don't live near a CC, Newegg will get it to you for $49 as well, with only $10 for shipping. Newegg is good too.

I have tons of these in my lab at work. I wish I could just send you one. But I don't want to steal from work.

I've found that most string is universal.

Some is just thicker than other. And length matters too.

Awe Im sorry i have a ton of these at home but I am literally broke. I live in seattle if there is anyone able to get this to him. Or maybe there is some way that he can pay for the shipping when he recieves it? Does that work for personal use or only businesses?

DaveW -> RE: Which USB cable do I buy? (7/22/2008 7:37:21 AM)

He could send a self addressed envelope with postage to you.

Hey y'all,

Thank you, everyone, for your replies.

I bought the cable off of eBay, and the buyer has assured me that the cable will fit my printers. It (and the printer, sold from another source) should be arriving sometime this week.

Those of y'all who offered to send me cables were very nice to do so; thanks for that as well. [:)]

Blessings,
Sharon-Marie

BTW, Ben, I must have used the wrong string . . . I couldn't get that method to work at all.

stamper_ben -> RE: Which USB cable do I buy? (7/23/2008 2:43:00 PM)

Probably had aluminum rather then tin cans....

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Which USB cable do I buy? (7/23/2008 2:49:42 PM)

Oh, that's what I did wrong . . . I didn't have any cans, so I used coffee mugs (ceramic) instead.

stamper_ben -> RE: Which USB cable do I buy? (7/24/2008 9:27:24 AM)

How did you tie the string to the ceramic? It's easy to punch a hole in tin for the string, not so easy with that crumbly ceramic.

I'm telling ya, I'm not so enamored of these new technologies like computers or telephones to abandon the old style stuff like string and morse code.

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Which USB cable do I buy? (7/24/2008 11:57:20 AM)

Silly - I tied the string around the coffee cup's handle.

Sheesh!

[sm=rolleyes.gif]

I'm with you on this modern technology thing . . . just a passing fad is all it is.

I hope I get my printer today.

I also hope that my USB cable is waiting for me at the post office when I go to check my mail.
