Moving along here...new subject. There's a quote I've heard: "Don't mistake my kindness for weakness." However I think that...among other things...kindness may have really been a weakness for me. There's no fatalistic reason to cast pearls before swine and show overmuch kindness to those who aren't operating in love and godliness. As Christians we do this--sometimes--because the selfish person in the flesh is certainly still found in the church. And I'm no different than many others who may have tried to take the high road and later felt burned that fellow believers didn't reciprocate and reflect Christ in their walk. I'm not going to solve the problem of the flesh-dominated Christian life in this little thread. I'm just sharing what I was thinking about. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:44-48)

Wintery I agree 100%. Now that I have that done I will say for me it is much easier to say than to do. I really have to struggle with that and most times fail miserably.

I really would like to feel like "Christmas". Really. I'm having to work at it. I heard a Christmas song in the distance while at the Chic-Fil-A drive-thru this morning and felt a grumble coming on. Gotta quench the grinch.

It's okay, Wintery. I feel that way, too. Good thing my kiddos are old enough to understand. My son put the tree up by himself Monday afternoon, because he knows that I really don't enjoy those things. He is such a trooper!!!

That's good, Jeannie. Like I was saying about quenching the grinch, I *thought* about tearing a pine branch off a tree in a wooded lot and putting one or two ornaments on that, a la Charlie Brown, but I -probably- won't do that. No, that'd be just dumb. Must not listen to grinchy ideas!

I stopped to take a close look at a deer roadside in Industrial Park last evening. I'm not a hundred percent sure it was only hit by a car, but I won't describe it. Also, it wasn't Rudolph. (Now did anyone wonder if I'm the only one who looks closely at roadkill, or why I'm doing it? I'm just curious is all.)

My guess is something to do with deer season... but being in Alabama, hunters have been known to use vehicles....

There are always deer taken by car but it's usually very bad for the car as well as being unintentional--as far as I know. No, I really meant that I am just curious enough to stop and look, that's all.

It's less than three weeks until Christmas and I think I've figured out what has been missing for me...the sense of expectation. Rather than join the cacophony of critics who would condemn aspects of materialism and greed and consign the whole holiday to an oblivion equivalent to a landfill, let me say something positive. There can be no expectation without hope. We may not be hopeless, but our hope can get placed on the back burner while we are engaged in the activities of the day. Some may have a continual downhill ride in life but I've never known this, and I suspect the majority have not. Our daily conflicts, in some cases combats, are capable of consuming our concentration and causing us to forget...hope. I admire the hope of children which can be seen in their expectancy of happy holidays. To be expectational is to have a sense of assurance. Other senses such as a sense of obligation or a sense of urgency or other senses may get undeserved attention as we leave our sense of assurance in the pursuit of a sense of accomplishment. There can be a kind of hope that is based on our deeds, but deep hope is from God. So as I regain the missing element for myself, I wish a sense of expectation for your holiday season as well. To each of you, Merry Christmas!
