Lioness,

I don't know if I'm making a big deal of this or not.

However, having spent many "family" holidays by myself, I can say, that for me, sometimes that has been a struggle and sometimes it hasn't - sometimes all regarding the very same specific day.

I think I can understand your situation; at least I know I certainly can empathize with it.

I've mentioned this recently . . . one of the reasons that November and December can be hard for me is because of all of the peripheral focus on family gatherings. That focus pretty much starts near the first of November and really doesn't let up until after New Year's Day . . . various people discussing (both online and offline) their holiday plans, who they're going to see, etc., etc.

Sometimes, it can get pretty intense . . . and pretty lonely; no matter who or how many people are around you . . . because once again, the focus is all about how they will be celebrating a holiday with all their various family and friends.

There's nothing wrong with that, per se.
But, for me, sometimes it can be painful to hear, to see, to observe it for 2 months straight.

I have a lot of respect for you; for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons is how you selflessly put yourself in what can be a potentially painful place so that your kids can have a relationship with their dad and their paternal grandparents. Your love for your children is so very evident (and in so many ways). It blesses me deeply to be able to witness this through your posts.

If I were wearing a hat right now, I'd tip it to you.

{{{Lioness}}}

Sharon-Marie, I'm sorry I didn't get back to this til now and you're probably gone by now but...

I'll just say thank you. You are very kind.

For me, it's about perspective. I have great family holiday memories. Those holidays with my grandparents and great-grandmother can never be repeated. But the memories are mine forever and I am so thankful for them.

On the other hand, continuing to go to the in-laws after the divorce for holidays (because A- I wanted things to be as much the same for my kids as I could make them and B- my in-laws wanted me and it would have hurt their feelings for me to decline) was very stressful and sent the Bizarr-O-Meter straight into the red.

Being alone on holidays is a VAST improvement.

Lioness, I can totally relate to this; for different reasons (that involve one of my former male babysitters, but I can still relate)

I hope you had a very peaceful and enjoyable day.

OY. {{{{{{{Sharon-Marie}}}}}}}

I did have a nice day. How was yours? I kept meaning to ask if you'd been invited to friends' or if you stuck around home. And, if you stayed home, did you make yourself something good to eat?

Why . . . do they get into a lot of fights or sumpin?

Kerrlaw is a Mike.
You are a Mike .

Qtman is a Sam.
Focusing is a Sam.

Qtman is a man.
Focusing is a woman.

Both you and Kerrlaw are men.

There. How's that?

LOL! I hope he has fun. He's all worried about the gutting. The "guys" have led him to believe that he's on his own for that part. He won't be but I guess it isn't male bonding unless they freak him out about something.

I'm glad you had a good day!

I did end up at a friend's party that he was having for all his wayward friends.
I had a very nice Thanksgiving.

I found out last night that my Pumpkin Pie was really Sweet Potato Pie instead. Not that there is much of a difference between the two, but still.

To get to the gutting, he has to bring down the deer first. If he does, I say just give it a decent burial and save some trouble.

I wouldn't mind trying it (except for the two Mrs. Kerrs of course).

A reply from San Fran! Special! I've tried to think of some sort of cryptic, dualistic response but so far I'm just a bonehead today!

My first thought was...

Snips and snails and puppydog tails. That's what Mr. Wintery is mixed of.

But then I thought maybe I'd be the only one who found that amusing.

You're not even the only one that had that as a first thought...
