Giulia -> World Youth convention in Sydney (7/16/2008 9:30:55 AM)

There's like a 170,000 pilgrims in Sydney wating to hear from the pope.In my view if you are a pilgrim you are one at home also because heaven is your real home and the journey through this earth is a pilgrimage. These are just pilgrims when they go see the pope. Anyway he will be making an address tomorrow so I am waiting to hear what he will say. He has already said that unless you are under him you are not Christian. That turned me off. Still I will listen objectively and he is not my enemy just because he thinks I am secular because I am not under any catholic church.

here is a link on the latest

I think it's imperative he apologises for the bad behaviour of some of the clergy under him. If he doesn't he may as well be guilty of the same. He does preach obedience to the papal throne, with that also comes a huge responsibility of the people under him. If he doesn't personalise that, then how can he be head of it?

No one should be head of the church like that. Only Jesus Christ. Not Peter, not Paul, not Mary. Not Benedict.

The youth are being told to populate, but also to marry. Many suspect there will be many babies in 9 months time. People are reporting very good behaviour from the guests, so that is great.

here is the latest off the yahoo page

In case anyone didn't notice I am not a real good reporter, never make a journo and don't get into gossip so that rules out magz as well. Massive amount of people there. Quite amazing really. It was just formalities till now it seems. Didn't actually hear his speech but this is what has been reported.

Often I feel I am mocked by the Catholic church. This thing about only noticing saints after they have fallen asleep is not biblical either. Mary Mackillop was a saint yet they have to wait till she falls asleep before they recognise it. The bible says not to forsake the gathering of the saints. Not to wait till they fall asleep then make a fuss over them.

So thousands of young people gather to hear the Gospel and share their love for Christ and this is how you respond? How about trying to be constructive instead.

I often feel mocked by any number of denominations but you don't see me complaining everytime a Joel Olsteen or the like has a gathering.

If you think watching a hierling leading the masses and teaching incorrect information is something to be happy about then I'll buy you the soda for you to celebrate but will not participate.

You certainly led by example[:D]! Accusing me of one thing and doing the same makes you justified hey?

I didn't attempt to tear anything down, unlike you. Whether you like it or not the true focus of world youth day is to bring youths together to worship Jesus Christ.

Giulia -> RE: World Youth convention in Sydney (7/18/2008 7:00:55 PM)

Can you hear yourself. Not sure what you mean by Joel Olsteen, I am not familiar with what he talks about but am sure the kid would be flattered by the parallel you drew![:D].

Ok ohhh just one, perhaps you should be called Justus?[:D] Got any constructive words then? I think the ones you used I used earlier[:)].

Much the same anyway.

In my view the victims of sexual abuse desrve an apology and if someone wants the benefits of being the "head of the curch" they also ought to take the responsibility that goes with it. Apologising for your clergys behaviour is one of responsibilities. I do agree that this should also be a matter which the police deal with instead of staying hidden in the shadows of the church. Many lives have been ruined and many have lost their faith because of bad behaviour from the clergy.

Giulia -> RE: World Youth convention in Sydney (7/19/2008 4:31:33 AM)

The pope delivered his apology today for the bad behaviour of the clergy. I think it ought to be a police matter if there are any problems with sexual assault or harassment within the church. They ought to obey the laws of the land the same as others.

He gave a sermon as well and he read it. Which is kinda well, dissapointing if he has to read a sermon. Like doesn't the Spirit give him the words?

Truthfully didn't expect any more from the Catholic church. I lived and grew up in Rome and never could find Jesus there. Even visiting the Vatican each week. The catacombs spooked me and the Spirit of God was nowhere to be seen.

Anyway apart from that I think it is wonderful that 180,000 youth have got together from all parts of the world to hear about Jesus. Just shows us that the fields are indeed white and ready for harvest.

My Pastor reads his sermon from his notes every Sunday as well and he is a dinky di Aussie......it is not a big deal.
The Pope's native tongue IS NOT ENGLISH and he PENS HIS OWN sermons. He has a lot to say, he needs his notes. He can speak about 4 or 5 languages from what I remember - very clever man.
His addresses and sermons since his arrival in Sydney have been great!

You are right Giulia - sexual abuse is a crime and should be treated by the police. I do not understand why the victims DID NOT GO TO THE POLICE IN THE FIRST PLACE instead of their church leaders.

The RCC is not the only institution in the world where Satan has infiltrated. I am waiting on the Federal Government to apologise for the sexual abuse of children by teachers in public state schools. I am waiting for the leaders of the Scout Movement to apoligise for the same thing. Same with the State Departments for the abuse of orphans, abuse of children by foster carers, from various protestant churches for stealing children from their parents, from Health Department Heads for the abuse of patients young and old, the abuse of young children in remand centres, the abuse of native peoples in remand centres, the abuse of asylum seekers in refuges, the abuse of prisoners.

Abuse is everywhere. The RCC do not have a monopoly on abuse.

If you go to above link, scroll down to news and click on National you should get the item.

I have been following the Youth Day Coverage since it started and have been brought to tears, especially watching the Stations of the Cross.

It has been absolutely wonderful. The videos and photos are stunning.

Randwick racecourse will be filled today with people. The Pope will make an address there. Just saw him travelling in his 13 cars making his way down to the race course. I know there are problems, there is also a lot of good coming out of it for the glory of God. I think the church has a greater responsibility than any other gov dept. As they also receive more blessings. Couldn't get into that link cuddles. Page has expired or something.

Mainly because of what the abuse does to the mind of the victim.... And in some cases the church did all it could to keep the police from being involved... Disgusting...

While it's true it doesn't have a monopoly on abuse, unlike the other groups you mentioned the RCC claims to be led by the Holy Spirit. God wil not be mocked and the RCC used His name to cover up its filth...

Seems like they had a wonderful time and one woman had communion and repoted it was the most wonderful experience she ever had. He spoke of selflessness. I did not hear the sermon but would've liked to. Yes the apology was long in coming and I hope there will be someresolve to deal with sexual abuse a a crimminal matter dealt with by the courts. Not hidden in the church in shame.

I saw some footage on TV just now and he said -"peace be with you" but his face looked worried. I didn't see any peace on his face. Now I am commenting truthfully from my perception. Perhaps I am wrong but doesn't seem that way. It's a worry!

The Pope is a very humble man and is still not quite comfortable with large crowds. He's getting there. :) His true gift is in his writings and teachings. He was after all a very respected college professor and theologian prior to his selection as Pope. :)

If you want to read his speeches and homilies from WYD, I would recommend the official Vatican website. http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/travels/2008/index_australia_en.htm
I think the homily you're referring to is this one: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/homilies/2008/documents/hf_ben-xvi_hom_20080720_xxiii-wyd_en.html
