RichLP -> McCain's joke about cigarettes (7/14/2008 5:16:43 PM)

This from a man who has worked in anti-tobacco legislation.

It's interesting that he mentioned "Iranians," not the Iranian leadership. Why would McCain wish death on the citizens of another country? I thought it was a trademark, a hallmark, a traditional characteristic of the American spirit that we do not wish evil and harm upon the citizens of other countries even if those countries' leaders are not on good terms with ours?

After "bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran," I can't help but be even more disgusted by this man's comments. As someone who has seen war firsthand, he should know killing others and death are not funny.

Is that a request that we all vote for Obama or just a rant?

The thing that most bothers me is that he doesn't seem the least bit worried about the second hand smoke that could waft over to Iraq.

As I said: killing others and death are not humorous.

It's an observation that John McCain seems to like to make jokes about violence or death when it comes to Iranians.

Well, exactly, and as we all know, second hand smoke kills.

McCain knows this - and yet he makes jokes about cigarettes "killing Iranians."

Well, hopefully Obama will come out with a proposal to ban all sales of cigarettes to dictators, after of course he sits down and discusses the issue with them.

Obama wasn't present when McCain made his statements.

And careless and thoughtless statements they were indeed - joking around about the deaths of Iranians.

Well, the good news is, for those nations addicted to nicotine, Obama promises a 16th month complete withdrawal plan.

McCain made a hurtful and thoughtless comment about Iranians and killing. It is not a matter for jokes, just as bombing Iran ("bomb bomb bomb Iran") isn't either.

I really don't think attacking Iran with cigarettes would be a particularly effective strategy. In fact just writing that makes me laugh.

McCain's "jokes" are a lot less funny - in fact, not funny at all.

Well, I certainly hope it's a joke - if this is his defense strategy, I will have to re-think who I'm voting for.

Jhud -> RE: McCain's joke about cigarettes (7/14/2008 9:30:01 PM)

Maybe I am showing my age here, but I remember a time when a President could say such things and it was considered chutzpah.

Harry Truman would be sent to a PC re-education camp.

Does Ron Paul have a sense of humor? If so, share one of his so we can compare. If not, then... well... I'm skeered of people with no sense of humor.

All I can say is this: "It is a great thing that no person in the public ever makes flippant remarks as a result of disgust, anger, etc." [&:]

It's really pathetic. We all know that the French are our real enemies. [sm=fireanger.gif]

tafkam -> RE: McCain's joke about cigarettes (7/17/2008 9:48:35 AM)

Actually, I don't really worry about making jokes at the expense of OUR ENEMIES.

Just can't get worked up about it....sorry....

So the Iranian people are our enemies? Is Bush lying when he says we only have a problem with their government?

The President's incredibility notwithstanding, there should be a little room for humor in these unholy things we call elections.
