How do you understand 2 Peter 1:10-11, Jimbo? The passage says to fellow Believers that we are to make our calling and election sure because if we do these things we will not fail.

I think it is wise to make sure you have been redeemed and born-again and, thefore, know you are a joint heir with Christ. The comment on "you will never stumble," (NASB) is simple affirmation that if you apply the virtues mention before that, "you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust." (verse 4)

It isn't a prescription for maintaining salvation.

i've always heard a brief gospel summary before the sinner's prayer. and really the salvation prayer i hear contains the gospel even. at that moment if it was explained, even briefly and the person is repentful for sinning and wants Jesus in their life, then yes i do believe they are saved.
