Hey! I really like As I Lay Dying. It's a heavy metal band. I absolutely love it. And yes, it IS Christian. I'll probably come back to this forum once I learn of more metal bands. I listen to more punk/rock christian bands :)

I'm not big on the hardcore emo screamo stuff, but if you like As I Lay Dying..

Try Underoath.. They're Christian too.. same kind of genre

Hello, Prexic!

This thread caught my attention since I actually already love much of what you've posted for music, especially Regina Spektor. It makes me want to tell you about my other favourite secular folk/rock/indie/etc. stuff. There's a lot of Christian music out there, and understandably there's a lot that I can't stomach. However there is great stuff out there, too! Don't feel the need to listen to *all* of this, just pick one or two. [:)] I went overkill. Also, I apologize in advance for the smattering of poor quality YouTube videos.

What I'd recommend:

Pedro the Lion - Bad Diary Days, Priests and Paramedics, Magazine (can't find the full song [:(]), or Lullaby, Diamond Ring (skip the story in the clip)
Okay, so I guess Pedro doesn't have always explicitly Christian songs. . . skip straight to Lullaby or Diamond Ring if you want the explicitly Christian lyrics.

The Benjamin Gate - Hands

Derek Webb - Wedding Dress (On his MySpace song list here)

Kendall Payne - Fail (Couldn't find the full song *sniff*) or Daddy

Jars of Clay - Jealous Kind (can't find a link) or Dig (ditto). They do have a new track Closer, which I just heard for the first time now, and it's catchy. Jars of Clay is really hit or miss, but when I love them I really love them.

Five Iron Frenzy - On Distant Shores (Terrible video, good song - SKA alert - if you hate ska, you won't enjoy this)

Relient K - Less is More (and as an aside - they're really fun in concert. Take, as an example, their song dedicated to The Office)

Thousand Foot Krutch -Lift It, When In Doubt, Small Town Old punkish rock stuff. I guess it's not that original, but I enjoy it.

Uh - I should probably stop there, eh? [sm=icon_smile_blush.gif]

Yeah, I'm not either. But I do like As I Lay Dying. I'll come back to tell ya other bands. I find new music everyday.

Whisper:

You mention Derek Webb, but not Caedmon's Call? For the OP... If you like the folksy sound, Caedmon's Call is great, you probably won't dig their worship albums, but like, Long Line of Leavers, IMNSHO, is their best work ever! You might enjoy also 40 Acres. Lyrically, they are very thoughtful.

Funny, I always felt Long Line was one of their weaker releases. 40 Acres, Back Home, Caedmon's Call, and Chronicles are my favorites.

I should also preface that with saying that I don't yet have the newest release "Undressed" uncabeeil; have you picked up the latest? What's your take on it?

Freakofnature:

My original post to her was about twice the length of what I actually posted, and did indeed include some Caedmon's call . . . . I thought I'd best "prune" my list or else I'd overwhelm Prexic! If she likes anything she hears I can recommend some similar sounds.

these are just some you can find them on Itunes also check out Psalm 9 or The Skull by Trouble

Hats off to you! You are the first poster other than myself to mention Trouble. During the 80's and 90's they and Warrior (Fighting for the Earth) were two out of the only three Christian Metal Bands I knew about. Stryper being the third but I was a little lukewarm about them!

Hey I lived in LA and the strip was full of secular metal bands back then and KMET didn't play any Christian rock at all. Now I feel like I was cheated!

whisper -> RE: Recommend me some Christian songs, I'll recommend some secular ones (7/18/2008 2:19:25 AM)

I do have to throw in a vote for Leeland, too. Listen to Tears of the Saints. Seriously. Leeland's only 19 or something like that. I saw them live before I even knew who they were. That sold me - anyone who is exponentially better live than on record is a-okay in my books.

Ben Gate's Hands has a beautiful intro! I've been wanting to take piano lessons.. I just need to save up.

Thousand Foot Krutch is always good. :P

Five Iron Fenzy has some really catchy lyrics.. I love songs that rhyme.. and I occasionally like some ska ^^

and finally, lol! I love the relient k office song

I forgot to mention Pavement!!

And Rilo Kiley! (She MAY be an atheist, but she hasn't come right out and said it yet)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=EGzL6IKTJW0 (Warning: 'F' word.. but in a very sweet way..)

Ok, and here's one of my favorite songs ever.. but I'm not sure if anyone here will like it. It's a very acquired taste.

It's slightly blasphemous, and says GD.. But it's not that bad..

Wolf Parade - Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts

Prexic, Wolf Parade made the list for one of the hottest Canadian acts (actually, this is an excellent list all around): http://www.iheartmusic.net/serendipity/index.php?/archives/956-Hottest-Canadian-Bands-,-2007-edition.html

Beachcooky, I linked to the Office song in my post listing songs above. Check it out.

PrexicKehdaki

I'm agnostic, but I do like a lot of CCM related artists that are within the realm of what you listen to. The below are albums that are (for the most part) easy to find or can be bought on iTunes....

Starflyer 59

*the Silver album*
The Fashion Focus
Leave Here a Stranger

The Choir

Chase the Kangaroo (80s sounding dream pop)
Circle Slide (see above)
Speckled Bird
Free Flying Soul

Danielson

Ships

Aaron Sprinkle

Moontraveler
The Kindest Days

The Violet Burning

Demonstrates Plastic and Elastic
self titled

Daniel Amos

Motorcycle

Over the Rhine

Good Dog Bad Dog

The first one not within my taste the second one though I think was really good was good description of depression. Cant say about artist but dont think song is partucularly atheist. As for the third one I would ask if you could PM me the lyrics perhaps it would make more sence I listened to it 4 times and guess I a bit old could not get connection of title part and had hard time distinguishin some words. not a bad tune though.

I doubt you would be able to find the one song but if you have any Christian friends there is 'Jesus I Will Call Upon Your Name' by Joe Sabolick is on the Songs from the Source CD which however is out of print. I could not find it on web but then not familiar with finding songs on web to much. The other one which I cant find anywhere would be Amazing Grace done with all six verses nobody seems to do more than 4 verses. I know not real good suggestions to find but then I am an old guy who used to listen to Albums and 45s and loved Laura Brannigan and ELO

Christ_Logic -> RE: Recommend me some Christian songs, I'll recommend some secular ones (7/28/2008 3:35:50 PM)

One thing I like about Christian music, is that it comes in almost any sub-genre out there.

Here are just some of the songs I like:
"Savior"-Skillet
"Rebirthing"-Skillet
"Already Over"-RED
"Breathe Into Me"-RED
"Jesus Freak"-dcTalk
"Absolute"- Thousand Foot Krutch
"Sea of Faces"-Kutless

Listen to the songs above, and MORE by clicking the following link: My Playlist

PrexicKehdaki,
Family Force Five, Capital Lights , Esterlyn, and Jeremy Camp are very good Christian performers. I could give you a lot but you are overwhelmed with many good choices that have been given you so far. You don't have to suggest any bands for me to listen to. I have a daughter who is going into the music industry in college and she keeps me up to date on a lot of bands in many genres of music.[:)
