I also don't see how SOME Christians think it's okay for grown men and women with familes, and friends and a life that has been developed to go off and die in a horrible war that they don't even agree with, but it's not okay for a fetus to die.

Our local CPS office over the course of a year or so asked for time on our local TV stations and also put in our newspaper that foster parents were desperately needed. They begged over and over and then started sending local children to other parts of the state and to other states. It wasn't because the children could get better care; it was because people--any people--wouldn't step up and at least attempt to become foster parents. It's hard to do, but things that are worth doing are usually worth fighting for and what is better to fight for than the life of a child?

Here in WA, there is a Christian ministry (based in Ellensburg, I believe, and fairly new) that will complete all of the home inspections/evaluations/etc that normally costs tons of money for free, for Christian parents who wish to adopt foster children. I think it's a wonderful thing, and would love to do this. As a single mom who has been working temporary jobs for 2 years and who knows that her natural children need her home, and a foster/adopted child would need that much more so, I can't do this at the moment.

I was wondering something. As Christians we are fervent against abortion and more concerned toward the unborn. But I was looking at this one avatar that caught my attention. One in six children in the U.S. live in poverty. Meaning they do not have a place to live or enough food to eat. So I asked my fiance why are we more worried about the unborn than we are about children who really need a place to live and food?

aside from the standard spoiled American repsonses...I know exactly what you mean.

IMO, it is much easier to fuss and hollar about abortion than to actually include a child in your home. It is much easier to scream at young girls outside a clinic, than it is to reach out in love to the girls coming out of the clinic and offer them compassion and love.

IMO, it is not a spoiled American response, it is a holier-than-thou Christian response. We don't really want to get our hands messy with the ill-behaved and neglected child...I mean what about the effect that might have on our own kids, what if they pick up a bad habit - wouldn't want them to see us serving in a selfless way.

We'll give our money, but don't ask for anything else. Unless you just want to hear us yelling about the latest social injustice.

and yes, this is a generalized rant

Many christian families would love to open their homes to foster kids but there are many reasons they don't after checking into it namely the amount of intrusion the state makes on every aspect of their lives.

I agree. As a homeschooler, it's difficult to invite that sort of thing, after seeing so many families violated by the same people. They have put us in a very difficult position.
