I was so disappointed. I wanted Nuthin but strings to win...I really thought they would. Then I wanted Eli to come 2nd....that part came true.

Neal E. Boyd.

My Dad and I made a bet. I wanted Neal to win, while Dad wanted Eli to win.
I obviously won. I've been a big fan of Neal for this whole competition!! Him and Caitlyn were my favorite :]

Neal was a very likable person. I had predicted he'd be second place and that Nuttin' But Strings would win, so I was surprised when they came in third. But I liked him. I was a little surprised that he won only because most people don't listen to opera, but he was very, very good.

Those were my thoughts about Neal too. I really thought Nuttin But Strings would win or at least 2nd. I couldn't believe 3rd.

I think Nuthin but Strings will have a better outcome with Vegas. They can do tons of things with their performances-- laser shows, showgirls, dancing...all that Vegas showcase. Neal is great but I just don't see much feedback once he's in Vegas.

Neal may do very well in Vegas. Let's wait and see.

W/ Neal winning it seemed like a repeat of Britain's Got Talent w/ their opera winner. kd

I am disappointed....I wanted "Nuttin But Strings" to win because I think for the venue (LV) they would have been the best choice. Of course all of the finalists were good, but I don't think they would all make a good LV show.

That's the way I feel too. 'been to Vegas so many times and opera, unles you're one of the 3 Tenors, I just don't see it happening. Vegas is all glitzy and lights and other things than just the singing. Even Celine Dion who was already a topnotch singer had to put her show with the big production because that's what people expect. I can see Nuttin' but Strings being able to pull a show Vegas style.

I don't think voters consider that. They just vote who they like. The majority aren't even going to Las Vegas to see the act. Neal will have a career as soon as someone snatches him up out of Las Vegas. kd

that's why I think the final vote (after it is weeded down to like the final 3 or so) should be LV execs or talent scouts or the judges or something....not the general public (well, maybe partly the general public, but not fully for sure)

Although I was rooting for Nuttin' But Stringz, I have to admit that it's nice to see that an opera singer can win a national show, from a culture point of view. Neil has talent, though frankly he needs some training to be a real opera singer (he lacks proper diction, for one thing). America is probably not ready for one of Wagner's 8-hour monstrosities (nor am I, if I'm being honest), but at least there's a lot of people who can appreciate classical music, whether they knew it before they watched the show or not. It's heartening, in a culture that seems to mostly want the newest dance-pop or gangsta rap hit.

I lived in Britain when Paul Potts won BGT, so I just had this sixth sense that Boyd was going to win the American version. I wanted Stringz to win, but when they got eliminated I knew it would be Boyd. There's just something about that aria "Nessun Dorma" that electrifies people. (Potts also became famous singing it.) I think his backstory, about being poor and all, also helped him tremendously--again, just like Potts. It's almost uncanny.

I totally agree that Stringz would have been much better for Vegas. I would be very surprised if somebody doesn't offer them a show, however. They're just too phenomenally talented. Boyd will probably go the way of Potts. The latter got snapped up by Simon Cowell (exec producer of the two shows) and now has a big recording contract. I also think that Boyd will stick to "popular" opera a la Andrea Bochelli.

So, there's a few things to consider - background story, genre, & also the Las Vegas act. I just don't think America has caught on to that because it was not part of the first season. I think downscaling it for Las Vegas has definitely effected the show & the winner's success beyond the show. We probably will never hear of Neal Boyd again. I never hear about the other 2 winners accept on the show. I have no idea if they are famous or not.

I think Neal being so incredibly emotional helped him a lot. You just don't see big guys like that cry at a drop of a hat. That added to his likeability.

I'm not too overly concerned that not winning would hurt Nuttin But Stringz chances. Just like American Idol, they'll have a contract w/ somebody. Probably already do. kd
