ORIGINAL: SuspenseWriter There's some big hoo-hah regarding the calendar the Mayans used stopping on Dec 12, 2012. Lots of people are reading a whole bunch into that, and the marketing people at Sheaf House hope to capitalize on that with my novel (not that it has anything to do with Mayans, but you get your publicity where you can [:D]) have you thought of taking the publisher's publicity a step further? have you ever looked closely at the Blair Witch Project Website? I can't post the link b/c of TOS, but if you look at it, you see a genius marketing campaign. They have a witch timeline including 'works' of fictional people, the cult, even a cult book. Of course, it's all made up. they also included pictures of the 'film makers' who of course, where actors. Interviews with 'family members', 'eye witnesses,' etc. newspaper clippings, news reports, evidence, etc. This is what freaked everyone out in 1994 b/c the website 'made' the movie real. So what you can do is do the same thing, kinda. Have a time line for the Calander, interviews with 'archeologists'. You can even have interviews with the characters. Make up newsreports that would be on the news. (It's not as hard as you think it is.) Have pictures of them, but use family members, friends, etc and say this is Dr so and so describing the calander, ect. There's a lot you can do with this, and I'd do it a month before the book comes out. Make the whole calander thing as real as you can and then let the book explode onto the market. Just a thought. :) kim
