This used to be nearly gospel. Suppossedly at one point (in the 18th and 19th centuries) nearly every English speaking house had two books: The Bible and The Pilgrim's Progress. Now people don't read it as much anymore and it's kind of fallen out of favor. I read it way back in GRade school and didn't like it much. Even back then I thought it was way to literal and hamfisted in its allegory, to the point of being really 1 dimensional and boring. It's worth reading for a historical view of the sort of theology and morality that existed at the time (if that interests you), but I've never been all that compelled by it as just a "book." "Paradise Lost" and Goethe's "Faust" are great, though, and definitely worth reading. I'd suggest reading them before "Pilgrim's Progress."
