I'm going to a bridal shower for my nephew's intended in a week. The theme is yard and garden. What in the world can I bring besides garden tools and maybe a book?

I don't want to bring that because I assume everyone will take the easy way out and do that. Can anyone think of anything unique? Or at least fun? Shower is July 14 so I don't know if there is time for me to mail order something but I could try.

[:D]If you can find out the bride's colors by using their registries, you could buy a flower print shower curtain and solid color towels in her colors.
[:D]A nice watering can filled with the long handled kitchen necessities, like spatulas, oven forks, pancake flippers, tongs, etc.
[:D]The welcome mat for the front door with an ivy boarder.
[:D]the glasses wrapped in yellow paper and a few packages of lemonade coolaid taped onto the top with a couple of silk sunflowers.


BTW, I had to help plan a shower for a co-worker. The other gal and I decided on the cruise theme since that is what they had planned for the honeymoon. Since we worked with the groom, alot of the gifts were very male oriented, like a tool locker and bbq equipment (I gave them things to bring on the cruise, like sunblock and flip flops, etc). Alot of folks said that they enjoyed having a guy's party for a change.

Kath, maybe some bulbs that will bloom the wedding colors. There are all kinds of "stepping stone", garden angels or other statuary, seasonal flags for hanging out. Wind chimes...Lawn chairs

What about some fun bright dishes to eat outside with: you know those melanime (sp?) dishes that are fairly inexpensive. You don't need a complete set of 8 but maybe 4 so they can have another couple over. Or a picnic basket with those type things in it.

Every garden needs a GNOME. I have one that isn't that fancy or expensive. He is lying down with his hands behind his head taking a nap. (His name is Riley, because he is "livin' the life of...")

A pretty outdoor THERMOMETER might be nice--I look at my plain one every day, so they are useful.

THIS is cute, but it might be hard to find without ordering it.

Go to a garden shop and look around--they have all kinds of neat things.

That is VERY cute.


Another thing I thought of was a unique little birdhouse to hang up or a bird feeder.

I just emailed my SIL to find out if the kids are in an older home with established trees or a new home with tiny skinny trees. That will make a difference.

I totally missed that link with the racoon!![:o] He is adorable!! And I think that little elfin door for a tree is pretty cute and fun too.

I agree about wandering through a garden shop too. Or a landscapers.

I hope they are going to be in an older home with big fat trees so they can use stuff like that.

I have a leaf man, too, but I didn't put him in a tree--he's an inside leaf man[:D]

I want that elf door...

I want that elf door too. I have 3 huge pines in my front yard and one has branches that sorta overhang the sidewalk. I think some of the walkers would get a kick out of spying it through the branches as they walk by.

I have to wonder though, how long it would be there before it got stolen. [8|] But hey, maybe not. Maybe people would be content with the smiles it gives as they walk by.

placemats and napkins for when they eat outside(like if the're going to eat at the table)

If they are going to have a backyard table, an umbrella for that

a child's outdoor bench.

I also just thought of something. You know how at baby showers people bring disposable diapers? You could bring lots of paper plates, napkins, plastic silverware, etc. that all match, so that for the first few backyard parties that they host they already have that stuff. I know it doesn't last forever, but neither do the disposable diapers, and then for their first few get togethers, they save money.


Also, in garden stores I've seen doll and children's beds changed into planters with plants, and then they call them flower beds. Get it?[:D] That would be a fun gift.

How about squirrel traps? That's what I want for my garden. [;)] Those pesky little creatures are eating the antlers my husband has up on the shed. They also ate all of our strawberries before they were even ripe. Find out if they have squirrel trouble.

This may be why we are having so much trouble with squirrels, but my mother loves her bird feeders. She and the kids sit with the binoculars watching birds and identifying them. There are some really cute bird feeders. Meanwhile, make sure you get one of those triangular things that goes on the hook to keep the squirrels from eating the bird seed. They do work, but the squirrel still eat the seeds that fall on the ground.

If you get a bird feeder, get a bird book from their locality so they can look up the birds.

ETA:Humming bird feeders are also very nice. (and they do not attract squirrels)

my SIL said not to fret and just give them a gift card. I didn't know I was fretting, all I did was ask if the house is new or old. *sigh* they always think I'm fretting when I'm just asking questions.

I remembered that larry won a grilling tools set from work, so I plan on giving that to them too. I'll have to watch and make sure no one buys it for them at Target first.

I understand the "don't fret" thing. I told folks that as well. I just wanted them to come and enjoy the festivities with us, but they wanted to get me something for their own reasons and I graceously accepted.

I had a lady give us a big planter, a bag of soil, a few annuals, and a magazine on container gardening. It was a neat gift.

What about a screen tent? Are bugs a nuisance there?

Neither have I, but I do think people from near the lake say there are lots of mosquitos in the summer.

Did your SIL even tell you if the trees in their yard are young or old?

Yes, she said it's in an older established neighborhood, so if I go with one of the tree ornament things it'll work. She gave me the address and a link to google earth, so I was able to see it. Then I started playing with it and looked up you and other friends. it was fun. [:D]
