Ezri, I'm praying too. Have you heard anything from the church at large about your leaving? Jen, Nate is too funny! Glad things are going well, Donna. Amy, That is terrible if N is going to her father. I would get the story from your mother first to be sure. Today is cool 75 but humidity 97% with heavy rain. The rest of the week will be hot-close to 100. Yesterday was close to 100 and after going to the library show, the library to drop off our reading log and pick up our pass to the water park tomorrow night and then doing some grocery shopping, we were both spent. Now that the library programs are over, I can shop in the mornings. It didn't make sense to do it when we would attend a program since the library is a few minutes away from the store. It was not practical to go the same places twice.

((((ezri))))) Dh had been on travel for work. So, no that wasn't the problem. We've been having "issues". It's a long standing thing. But, he was gone for a couple days and away from the situation. Meanwhile, I was still in the trenches. He comes back thinking all is peachy-keen. Uh, NO!!! I have plenty of days where I really don't know if things are going to work out.

Some of you know Triss- She was approached in the electronics dept of our local WalMart and told she had to take her bag to customer Service. it was store policy to not allow BackPacks in the store. Her pack is a Day Pack which she purchased from walmart and is actually bag #2 she has carried this as a purse so long she is on bag #2- we shop at walmart A LOT and NEVER been told about such a policy and no it is not on any door anywhere and no greeter has ever stopped us and told us we cant enter with our bags. There was a time there I carried a HUGE back pack that has all my camera stuff in it with me everywhere. NOPE not even with that HUGE backpack. I have written corporate and called and left messages for the store manager and the district manager informing them that my 16 yo will continue to carry her purse into WalMart until the policy is plainly displayed and enforced for ALL customers and that even then she would not "sign in" her bag is it was simply going to be locked in "the office" for which "only the manager on duty" has the key because I know that the only key line is a lie and if they are going to require the bags be signed in then they are responsible for providing a SECURE lock up... and under the desk in the office does not qualify. I am none too happy right now. ~e

I;m confused: what do you mean bag #2. Or do you mean this is only the second purse she has carried and her first was just like this one?

One of my coworker's parents' house burned down last night. Her dad is in the burn unit and the dog died. I don't know any more than that, but I feel awful for her. She is in the middle of planning her wedding, so she is already a bit stressed. I left her a message to see if there was anything we could do for her, but obviously calling back is not tops on her list right now. Oh, I will pray Cindy! What a terrible situation. Ezri, I had a problem with store security following my teens around once. When I confronted him (he was not being at all subtle) he told me he followed them to keep them from stealing! He said this to my face! We had been in there many times with no problems, but this time Michael was with us, and he is clearly bi-racial. Store security obviously are not the brightest bulbs in the pack. I wonder why he/she was suspicious of Triss? Maybe her hair was parted on the wrong side?

I thought of her when I saw a dulcimer class on the music fest schedule, lol. Ok, I may have told this story before...but my mom was an undercover store detective (the kind they rarely have anymore). She was hired to shoplift (yes, you read that right) at a series of stores as a training exercise for the employees. My dad was busy and she needed a partner and so she took me. I was 11. Now, my daddy was a cop, my mama was nearly one, and everyone I knew carried a badge and a gun. I had NEVER done anything like that. But I had SO much fun! My mother got caught but I didn't, and I totally cleaned up. So, a week later we had a seminar for all the employees who had been working when we were having our fun (a police car was in the parking lot and we took the goods there immediately afterwards, there were no perks to this job). For TEN YEARS afterward, there was one store I could not go into without being tailed by every employee in the house. They would not believe me when I said it was a one-time thing, lol.

I would actually not recommend doing that. To 'out' an undercover detective can put them in danger, and they are just doing their jobs.

They are not doing their job if they are that obvious. I also think that it is important to teach our kids to not put up with people following them as it can also become dangerous.

The dam done burst. Nothing resolved, but at least that tension is gone. Ds2 is sporting a new hair do. While dh was gone ds2 was riding someone else's bike sans helmet. Rule still applies--no helmet, no hair. Will ds2 ever put things togeterh?!

I was bald once. I had to be very careful or I would get sunburned.

Ezri-I'm sorry that your dd was stopped at Walmart today. I wonder if they would have said anything if she had not entered the electronics department? I will be interested to hear how they respond to your questions. I found a few instances on the Internet that discuss Walmart and backpack checks but there weren't many. With all of the visiting foreign customers (business people) that carry backpacks as regular purses (men and women), I wonder how they choose someone to stop?? I hope that they didn't frighten her too terribly. When I was a young teen (early 1970's), my father wouldn't let us carry purses when we shopping with friends in the city. It was for our protection and so that store clerks would not have any reason to accuse us of shoplifting. We either kept our money in our shoes or pockets.

Nate is forever taking his backpack in stores, because it's his laptop case, and he never leaves his laptop in the car. They have not said anything to us. And, really, it would be the door person's job, anyway, not the security dude's. Guy's got bad instincts, I can tell ya that much! I know my mom is amazing, but she can spot them when they walk through the door, and I have never known her to be wrong...even now, and she has been out of the biz for 18 years!
