Yeah, last time I stepped outside, it was steamy!

That was not a pleasant experience... I heard a lot of noise outside and went to the window only to hear something crash up against it. It was a Pit Bull!! And he was mad. And my kitty was under the truck. The dog ran over to the truck and started barking... and he didn't sound friendly or playful! I knew better than to go outside so after assessing the situation, I started hitting the door, which made a gunshot-kind of sound. The dogs left! Whew! A few minutes later, pun'kin came in quite shaken. I think he's under the bed now... poor thing.

Woah Michelle, now that's scary! Also, I hope that both you and Lisa have good A/C to cool down as well.

Poor kitty!!! That's horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!

We've got AC (you don't live in FL - or the south, for that matter) without it. Whether it cools it off properly is another story. We run the AC in January at times.

Yeah, VERY scary! As far as I know, that's his first encounter with hungry dogs. I think I'm going to keep him in for a while.

After this, I don't think he's going to want to go outside for a while.

Any idea where the came from - in the neighborhood or surrounding area?

I am glad that you all have A/C! I saw some at Best Buy earlier. The prices weren't too bad per say, however if I get one it will likely be a heavy duty model.

And as far as Pum'kin, I am sure he will want to stay in for a while after that ordeal!

You Southerners and your ACs , now mind you I'm very glad for the thing since I've been stationed in the South but.... The weather guy was on the other day and was totally shocked that other cooling systems exist, he just came back from vacation and was trying to explain a swamp cooler to everyone. He didn't sound too convinced they work in low-humidity climates.

Mike - in the south, nearly everyone has central AC - it's built into the houses. Only older homes have window units. To cool my house (which is NOT big by any means) would take at least 6 units. Window units are impractical down here. For places that barely need AC, they are fine, but when you're trying to cool an entire house, they don't work.

I get sick in the heat - truly - I get violently ill. I have to have AC. Believe me, I wish I wasn't like this - but as I am getting closer and closer to menopause, I'm going to need it even more!

Swamp coolers are great in low humidity climates - but they don't work in the SE - at least not during the summer. They might work in the winter, if/when it needs cooled down a bit.

Oh, yes you are a southerner - just a south Texas southerner.

You know, we need to have a title for those who live along the Gulf Coast - we're really the ones who are in such need of the AC most of the year.

I dunno about AC's being everywhere in the South. There are homes in GA that do not have AC. Some have fans... that is not a state I visit in the heat of summer, though.

AC's are essential down here right now but I can attest that not everyone uses them. This is why I wear VERY comfortable clothes to work. Some of the homes I visit do not have AC... and I do my best to visit them in the mornings.

This I realized my first summer here, thought I'd just hang the wet towel in an open window... nope, definitely does not work.
And yuck about getting that sick , this humidity thing kills me too, black out during PT for lack of breathable air.

(ETA: my computer runs too slowly to keep up with you all)

Oh yeah, I know that - most definitely! I found that out during my 18 months of living in North Texas. LOLOL

Good thinking, Michelle - yeah, I know not everyone has them - I just cannot live without one - I would truly be unable to function.

Because I had a late lunch and had already snacked on something earlier so I wasn't very hungry at all. I just blame it all to poor eating habits!

Hey, everyone! How's your Sunday afternoon? Did you get a nap? I may take one later.

Well, Punky seems to be doing fine since his "incident" last night with the dogs. He was ready to go back outside shortly after coming in then again this morning. Although he seems unaffected, he's still jumpy today. Heck, I'm very hesitant about letting him back out... he's not a "street-wise" cat, y'know.
