but it's very important to me which school my daughter goes to. Thankfully, Dh works in the school board where we hope to move so he'll know all that stuff for us!

School is not to be taken lightly. My DD went to a wonderful public elementary school, her first year of middle school was good, too. But then they started moving the district lines and it changed where she went to school. After a year there we decided to homeschool.

I worked in two school actually across the train tracks from each other. The differances between two schools, just a couple of miles apart, was striking!

I haven't seen Kim (clag4Christ) since the 1st either. Maybe she just got busy with life?

It can be quite remarkable the difference in schools....mainly it's a teacher/administrator thing, but not entirely. I try to do my best as a teacher. It's difficult when the administration backs different values/goals than the teachers. *sigh*

Well, DH told his mom last night that we're about 70% packed. I'd say that's pretty accurate. Really...the majority of stuff that is left unpacked is the clothing, kitchen items, toiletries, and computer stuff that we use on a regular basis and you can't pack them until the last minute. We do have a tad more to do in the office that doesn't fit into those categories.

J has TWO birthday parties today so it's going to be a busy day. I have to make a doctor appt. for DH between parties...so I won't be on much after this morning.

Have a great day!!!

Jennifer - when I was baptised, Dh bought me a Bible. We were dating then so he used my maiden name. But it seemed weird to both of us because we knew we would be married and I would be carrying around a Bible with my old name in it! And I'm so attached to this one now that I don't want another one. Now that I think about it, I'm going to have him write in our last name.
aww lol

Car2ner- nice yard ^_^

Beth- wow your one busy lady, hope everything goes well

Sorry for being clueless... but why is tomorrow special?

Hmmm.....Jennifer....you said today is a special day....is is your dating anniversary? Just a guess. And yeah, he probably should have gotten it with his last name....but because it came from him before you got married....you'll probably treasure it forever. I imagine you'll end up like Lexie. In fact, I received a Bible for my college graduation and I use that Bible almost as much as any other Bible...and it has my maiden name in it.

Yes Megan you were right 2 years of dating ^_^ and it was one interesting anniversary thats for sure lol

I woke up at 4 am this morning and could not go back to sleep until 6am I kept coughing the entire time and nothing seemed to help drink and throat drops :/ Anyways I got an application today for the bank... Im kinda nervous about everything Job wise...

My dad was in a wreck, but it was the other woman's fault. Apparently she wants to say it's my dad's fault, but she was in the wrong lane, making a turn out of a somewhat hidden exit (hidden in that there are shrubs and you can't see if there's traffic coming when you're trying to turn onto the road). It's on a steep hill and there are bushes blocking.... there's another way out, but some people want to take their chances. Anyway, she basically was in the wrong lane, turning out of a basically blind exit onto a street and my dad hit her. So he's afraid she'll try to do something, but honestly, she was turning and couldn't see where she was going or IF there was traffic coming, she was in the lane for the opposing traffic (a delivery truck was blocking the normal way, so instead of taking the alternate, safer exit, she decided to do it her own way), then she gets upset because she gets hit. The cops came and basically told her it was her own fault and that she should have just taken the other exit instead of going the illegal route. I think she's just mad that her expensive SUV has been hit, but is forgetting who got it into the accident through their own fault.

Everyone around here knows that when you turn out of that parking lot (where she was), even if you're in the correct lane, you're turning blind. I've just always started going the other way.... even if it's not my fault and I get hit, that's still just too big of a headache to deal with.

I hope your dad isn't hurt. The police and the insurance will be the financial deciders of who is at fault so he can relax there. She can fume and fuss but it is neutral parties who will decide.

car2ner, I was just looking through your blog. And since I can't comment there I will comment here. I think it would be hilarious to use his bike as a lawn ornament! Lorne just bought his first bike this year! He has been practicing for the last 3 weeks and takes his driving test this saturday. He is really excited! Oh, and your son's graduation outfit was super nice! And how sweet of him to bring that girl with him since she was homeschooled. Oh, and how long did it take for him to get all that ink off of his back? Hahaha too funny!

I should take a photo of the bicycle. I have "tree in a box" in my front yard and I just felt it needed something.

Tell Lorne Godspeed on his test!

BTW, I used to have two g'pigs. Named them after hobbits.

I got a phone call last night from RFKC. I was thinking that they weren't ever going to contact me or that they had no place for me to help. August 10th & 11th I'll be involved with set up and registeration. I'm very excited about it! I know it's just a little thing and not nearly as exciting as being a camp counselor. I'm just excited that I get to do something with the ministry. There is a link at the end of this post for RFKC. This is the first ministry that I have expressed an interest in that has called on me in the almost 8 months since I've been back in CA. I was starting to feel like none of them were ever going to call me.

Looks like a pretty neat ministry, Roberta. It allows abused kids to have a summer camp experience in a Christian atmosphere. That's AWESOME!!

Megan, from what I've heard, it's great. Interesting thing is the lady who is organizing this year is someone whose dh went to school with my brother. He was a grade ahead of my brother, so that means that he graduated the year before I started at that high school. This lady and I went to the same jr. high at the same time and we were trying to figure out if we knew each other.

I hope it's okay to just jump in! I wanted to comment on this...

Don't underestimate at all the importance of registration for RFKC!! I'm the assistant director of our RFKC and have been involved as a counselor, dean of women, and now assistant for 12 years and I can tell you, our registration people are soooo very important! We choose them very carefully. You will be the first link to RFKC the kids see...you get to welcome them and help put their nerves at ease. You can help set the tone for the entire week with encouragement and excitement. It's our registration people who give the kids their first impression of what's to come and often show them their very first taste of God's unconditional love and acceptance. It's a very important job! Blessings to you for getting involved. I think you'll love it!

That sounds like an awesome ministry!

Tamara, hope that everything works out for your Dad. How is he physically?

X is at a slumber party tonight.

While she's been out and J's been playing computer games, dh and I have been sorting out his paperwork for tax. We have it all in neat little piles on the diningroom floor at present, having put the table away for the day.

About 20mins ago, McGuiness and Holeproof, our cats, came racing through the diningroom, straight through all the paperwork, and turned it into a mini-warzone.

Don't you love cats? Mine turned my computer off awhile ago when she walked across the power strip. Crazy cat! She's sitting right at my feet at the current moment.

We're having a garage sale today! Pray it will go well...I'm not really sure what to even expect as it will be the first one I have done. DH has done them a time or two though and he says they are a pain. Guess we'll find out. I do know I am in for a LONG day of work!

On that note, I'd better get out of here to get things ready for our sale. It's only 5:45 AM, but I have a feeling it's going to take awhile to get things out. People around here are NOT early risers...otherwise we'd already have been out there!

I like reading Karlie's posts because not only do I get amazing amounts of wisdom, but I get to look at pretty shoes!!!

I'm finding I have such little time these days!!! I'm trying to figure out a good way to get my days organized. Kind of stinks, because I need to cut down my time on the internet. I find that I say I'll spend 45 minutes on here and I'm still here an hour and a half later. It's so hard though when there is so much keeping up with people on here and Facebook and email! I'll figure it out, but I know I need to spend more time in study and devotions.

Today we're having a bbq with Dh's family. It's a hot one out there, but it will be nice to have everyone together (Dh has a big family so it's not often everyone gets together at once.)

It's very slow-going in garage sale land. Will y'all say a prayer or two for us if you stop in? It's not quite 11 and I can count on one hand the number of guests we've had....or pretty close to that.

This is our last weekend here...so I really pray it goes well. Of course we procrastinated!!

Oh my, I figured you'd be swamped! I worked for one of our newspapers for years. CA always had a problem with people showing up too early. People would put
NO EARLY BIRDS!!!!

in the biggest print they could in their ads and people would still get there an hour or two early. One lady put
EARLY BIRDS PAY DOUBLE!!!!

and she said that people were still there an hour early or so. When I was in IN doing the same job, people had others showing up the night before to their garage sales.

Do you live in a part of CA that prohibits you from placing signs around town?
Has someone on your street (or near you) had a garage sale within the last week or so?

As far as I know there is no prohibition of placing signs around town. There are signs up!!!!

There are MULTIPLE garage sales ALL over town today though. I saw signs for at least 4 or 5 other garage sales while I was out and about. And I know of at least one other one going on today. *sigh*

We live in a neighborhood that's just outside the really bad neighborhood of town (had someone shot just blocks away last week...that's what the neighbor said...I never heard about it...but I don't watch much local news). Our street is off the "main" drags...very quiet, reserved. It's great for living...NOT for garage sales!

The only people that have even been by are neighbors. We've sold a few things to some of them!! Our plan is to go until stuff is moved...then we'll leave whatever we don't want to try to sell or give away outside. People can take it from there. I know...shouldn't encourage such behavior...but we really want the stuff gone. The money is needed for our move...but we don't need to haul unnecessary baggage around either....

I see nothing wrong with setting a sign up for free stuff once your done garage-selling.
