Ok, please share!


There are actually two reasons!

First, the name is in honor of the historical aspects of the city where they were based, Dahlonega, Georgia. There were many gold mines in the area and the town became unofficially known as gold city.

Second, Floyd Beck owned the group at the time they changed their name to Gold City. His father had sang with a group called Gold City in the 1940s and 1950s.

The group is called Gold City for those two reasons, in honor of the town where they were based and in honor of Floyd Beck's father!

You might be SG Fan if the only music in your home growing up was SG and Elvis.

You might be an SG Fan if you had t-shirts made that said The Cathedrals and The Kingsmen before the groups sold shirts with their names on them.

You might be a Southern Gospel Fan if instead of a week long vacation, you take 5 3 day weekends to attend your favorite groups homecomings or multi-day concerts.

And you might be a Southern Gospel Fan if the groups ask you 'are you coming to (fill in the city)'? They know it is close to you cause they know where you live! Or they tell you, 'I looked for you in (fill in the city) I thought you'd be there.
