I was just thinking about this thread while running my DD to summer school. Last week I stepped out on the fringe. I bought a pair of pants, shorter than capris, above the knee, but look like dress pants. I also bought open toed shoes. I actually wore them without panty hose (gasp).
Anyway there was almost another underware scandal ( a story in parents folder), but this time me instead of DD friend. I saw these pants, and thought they were a missess size six, but actually, they were a junors size nine. No, I did not try them on, I never try anything on. They were huge, I wore them with a belt, pulled tight. If that belt would have came loose, they would have fell to my ankles in the sacturary. I did not have time to change my clothes, we were late anyway, and my husband was having a fit to go. I was so afraid I would drop my drawers during service. that is what I get for leaving my comfort zone. (LOL) all we needed was another underware scandal.

Could they wear shorts? I would bet....they never wear shorts because they don't look good in them.

As believers, it can swing both ways. The point is to have respect for the Lord, and whatever one does, they do onto the Lord too. If there conscious doesn't condemn one then it is ok to dress, but if it does, then it isn't instead.

Im curious. For the sake of arguement, would you meet with the president in the whitehouse with flip-flops, jeans and a t-shirt?. And if not, why not?

Well, you do not meet with the President everyday, in fact most people are fortunate to meet the President once in a lifetime if at all.

Now notice that it didn't mention anything about having dreads at all.

BTW, I have not seen a single person post a scripture to back up their arguements at all, so I am posting one here. Feel free to comment:

James 2:1-7

1 My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. 2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. 3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet," 4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? 5 Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? 6 But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? 7 Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?

LOL It would have been the last straw. I am suprised honestly it did not happen because the pants did not have beltloops. I would have caused trauma to young and old alike, not to mention myself, who would have never stepped foot back in the church. My defense, would have been thank goodnesss I was wearing undies. Blanche " Golden Girls would have said that, you know.

Our pastor told us while on stage tonight to "dress up: nice shirt, pants, and a tie" because of this thing we're having Sunday night. He said it's merely for first impression purposes.

That proved my point. Clothing has nothing to do with God. It's a man-made stipulation.

yesterday i was so tired and i work in an office, the last thing i wanted to do was dress up for church in office type clothes. plus im very exhausted in general. so in order to be able to handle it, i wore my comfy cotton t shirt and a loose pair of pants like I dont know what you call them but they're loose stretch pants. It helped to relax me and enable me to go. I was wishing i could wear my gym shorts that are down to the knee, but i thought that would be too casual..

i guess you could have called me casual but not beach casual.

I had told my pastor earlier in the day i almost might not make it tonight coz of exhaustion, but he encouraged me to come, and when he saw me come thru the door and sit down, he gave me a big grin!

I know he was happy I made it and Im sure he did not care that i came casually dressed.

I attend a church where we do like to dress up on sunday morning, but the rest of the week its a bit more casual. however, its not a legalistic dress code, its just something that we wish to do.

Just curious, how often do you meet God, you know, like face to face?

You mean Abba Father? I make a point of meeting with Him every day. Come to think of it, I am VERY, VERY casual a lot of the time and He never seems to mind.

So, would you say Abba Father is only picky about clothing inside a church buliding? That seems kind of unusual, don't you think?

I was referring to physical face to face meeting, as in, for instance, The Great White Throne Judgement (which I hope none of us ever has to meet Him face to face then). I did not mean our daily meetings with Him in prayer.

Aren't we told to come BOLDLY to the throne of grace?

But what about His being picky with our dress just in church? If dressing up in coat & tie is important when coming before Him there, shouldn't it be proper anytime we come before Him?

Yes, we can come to the throne of grace any time, but we hope and pray that we aren't going to face the Great White Throne Judgement. That's where the judgement of the non-believers, etc. occurs. You really don't want to be there.

Anyway, I did not write that God cared what I wore to church. It was only my conviction that I should dress in clothes that were nicer than tee shirts, blue jeans, and flip flops. It began as an off-hand comment I made on another thread (about rock and roll). Someone decided to give it a life of its own and turn it into a separate thread.

For everyone out there - please forgive me. I didn't mean to criticize anyone.

I wear suits, or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof, everyday to my office, clients/attorney's, real estate agents, buyers, sellers.... On Sunday I generally wear the same thing as I am on the worship team... When I was younger, I didn't mind so much getting all dressed up, wearing a tie, looking good... as I get older, it's too much of a hassle. Wish I could wear just jeans and a polo shirt. Sometimes, I actually do, but I throw a jacket over the polo shirt for something a bit modern yet casual. I have a countles number of suits, several pairs of dress slacks and one pair of jeans....

I was pretty amazed they were so offended at capris. Since I'm short they were even longer on me than most women. I thought it was a bit over the top.

and I do sort of agree with that stipulation. Maybe not the tie, but dress pants and a nice shirt for those on stage because of the first impression of the visitor or maybe a casual Friday attire, a polo and khakis. But not frayed jeans or similar attire.

For all the office workers and suit wearers out there...putting on a nice pair of jeans and a golf shirt IS dressing up for me.

My work uniform is stained with ink and grease. My sneakers are old, threadbare and very dirty, but servicable. I sweat. I have ink under my nails. My showered doo lasts about 15 minutes at work.

I have one other pair of sneakers I wear to church. Two pairs of jeans. Two golf shirts and a nice shirt my wife bought me...gee....8 years ago? I do have a few pairs of slacks. Heck, I even have a suit...a taylored suit made for me whan I got married....and a couple ties.

I wore that suit every Sunday to church in my old church. I did have a few different shirts and switched out my ties. It was expected of us in "ministry" to dress like the pastor did...that was just the way they did that. Anyone else could wear what they wanted to wear. Dress up or down...didn't matter.

So...to some wearing nice jeans is dressing down. For others, its not.

By the way I could afford more clothes but I am under the delusion that someday I am gonna lose weight.....that....might be a while

Those women were jelouse of you, and your good looks. I just would have lost it if a group of nosey women confronted me like that. I know you are Godly, and I am short also 5'2", so I understand what you mean about, the capris were not showing anything. Yes, I agree with the clean jeans. Did you when your teenage girl was little dress her up in fluffy dresses, and bows. I did all three. It was so sweet, and they loked so nice. Well things change, atleast for me and my three. I am just glad they serve the Lord though. If what they wear is clean, not to bizzare, or indecent, I really do not raise a fit. I would rather have them there ( actually they do not have a choice) in jeans than some place else. I dress up on Sunday morning in pant suits, sacks, skirts, and such because I like too. I come from a long line of bling, bling women. They are not old lady outfits, mostly wal-mart specials (LOL).

Thanx, Jimbo. The feeling is mutual! I really didn't think you were bashing me. I was addressing everyone out there on the tread, some of whom seem to have really taken this to heart.

Curmudgeon? Wow, that's even bigger than a 50 cent word. That one's worth at least a dollar. Put it on my bill.

I saw, in church, two young girls, probably younger than 8, wearing make-up and miniskirts.
