What is your ultimate goal for your body?
to lose about 15 more lbs and tone up my stomach ( get rid of the gut )
Do you have a plan to get there, or are you looking for one?
well i drink mostly water now where i used to only drink soda...i do alot of lifting at work and sweat constantly so thats a work out...plus on my days off i usually take a 2 mile walk. and i have cut most of the junk food out of my diet...still working on that one lol but im getting there.
Do you have a time line you're working in to be 'in shape' by?
not really but hoping for results asap...arent we all
If you aren't able to start working out now (pregnant mommas!! ) when do you intend to start reaching your goal?
now
Do you have mini-goals set up along the way for yourself?
yes and have been working on them...for instance i quit smoking...which is huge considering most ppl who quit gain weight..but i have been watching how much i eat also.

Welcome Shell!!! Glad you are here.
Out of curiosity, how many "days off" do you have? And do you do anything other than the lifting on days you are working?
Good job on the smoking, snacking and soda. Those are hard.

How's everyone else doing with their c25k????

--------------

The first two weeks of SB are the hardest. But if you can get through those, it gets SOOOO much easier.

I've done SB with people a couple times, out of moral support. The first time I wanted to lose about 15 lbs, and ended up losing 25. The second time I just wanted to tone, but didn't need to lose any weight. I lost 10 lbs. But it's amazing what sticking to the principals of the diet do for your overall energy and well-being day after day.

I hope he doesn't cheat, but rather sticks with it. There are some pretty good sweet alternatives in the book. And I have the cookbook with some good alternatives as well, if you're interested. Some have been HUGE successes at potlucks where people generally don't eat "diet food."

I don't know if i posted it here but I am restarting running and doing parts of the c25k. I have already done it twice through and then I hopefully will run a 5k.

I'm not doing too well. Two weeks ago, I weighed under 200 lbs for about the fourth time. Last week, I was bloated the night before my weigh-in and gained 4 lbs. This week, I've been eating lots of trail mix and chocolate-covered granola bars, so I don't really want to weigh-in this Saturday morning, but I know that I have to keep myself accountable to everyone here and at sparkpeople, so I'll do it anyway.

I just can't seem to stop eating my favorite high-carb foods, especially the two I mentioned. I wonder if it's almost TOM or something. I guess I just need to repent of my sin of gluttony and start doing better if I want to weigh 185 lbs. or less by December 31st. this year.

Yolanda - I totally know the feeling!!!

A couple things that kept me sane - drinking diet Pepsi and eating jello made me feel like I was getting some sugar.

Snack on nuts and cheese!

Hi everyone! I haven't been in this thread in ages and wanted to stop in and say an encouraging word to everyone. YOU ALL ARE DOING GREAT!!!!!! Keep up the good work! Now, for my wonderful news! I have lost 20 pounds since this past February! And so far I have managed to keep it off!! I think I have a good thing going with Intuitive Eating. I try to eat healthy between hunger and fullness (that can be tricky to guage at first) and walking/bike riding. I can keep this lifestyle up, so I should be able to maintain this weight loss! Yippeee!

Our work has a Keurig, I was so excited to find it!! (K-cup coffee maker) Anyway, I went up to get a coffee and there was one called "German Chocolate Cake" So I had that one, and it was like I was having something indulgent :)
I've been going for coffee when I'm craving "something"

I'm going off the meal plan, but still following the rules. The meal plans are just not enough for us. Poor hubby was just about starving yesterday! Tonight I made chicken breasts spread with pizza sauce (yes, I know that's a bit of a cheat) and cheese melted on top with caesar salad, roasted peppers and onions, and steamed, mashed cauliflower. It was ok. But better than what the meal plan called for.

Thanks Tammy for the ideas. I bought some sugar free candies, and drink coffee when I want something, so I'm doing ok for now. I hope I can make it the whole 2 weeks.

I never followed the meal plans, I just made up my own with the allowed foods.

Here's a good one - chicken breast topped with turkey bacon, mushrooms and cheese - baked. Hmmmm - yummy! I usually cheat by adding the tiniest bit of bbq sauce. Though I think they have a homemade recipe for bbq that would be approved.

I ate a lot of cucumber salad and peas when I was on that diet! I always made enough dinner to use as lunch leftovers as I found that the hardest meal.

There's a really really really good chicken meal in the cookbook called Chicken Capri. It's VERY filling. Chicken cooked half on the stove, then in the oven for the last 20 min or so. When it's put in the oven it's topped with a ricotta cheese mixture (ricotta cheese, parm, oregano), canned diced tomatoes, and mozz cheese. Oh it's SOOOO yummy. I've made it too much now and I'm not allowed to make it anymore. but I just love it. (I"m a HUGE fan of cheese.)

Well, I'm back in the saddle as of today. One day "off" and it went down hill from there. Will's really working on hard on controlling his diabetes and I need to eat right too to encourage him!

For those of you just starting South Beach:

I've done SB. It is a great diet. It is really important that you do phase 1 and DO NOT CHEAT at all for those 2 weeks. The first 3-4 days are the hardest. Day 3 is just awful awful awful. After that the carb cravings disappear and you feel great. Day 5 is like being born again. However, if you cheat at all, especially during those first 3-4 days, the cravings will not go away and you will not stick to the diet.

I stayed on SB for well over a year and lost about 70 lbs. Then I got married and went off little by little and gained back 50 of those pounds. I also gained back my type 2 diabetes that I had completely under control while on SB. I found it nearly impossible to get back on Phase 1 of SB. I don't know why...just couldn't do it.

Now I'm on an even more carb restrictive diet as ordered by my doctor. I've again lost 45 lbs and my diabetes is again completely under control on just diet alone. I will remain on this diet until I've lost significantly more weight and then I plan on moving back up to SB. I know by the way my body reacts to carbs that I will probably be mostly on phase 1 for the rest of my life with the occasional indulgence of phase 2 foods and a very rare cheat.

Low carb is the most effective way to treat type 2 diabetes. It is much preferable to meds which just lead to more and more meds.

When you hit an awful awful carb craving, just remind yourself that it will be better in a couple of days, push past the craving (it will ease off in about 10 minutes) and grab a sugar free fudgecicle. Don't limit portion sizes on phase 1. Eat as much as you need to be full. Once you get through those first few days the amount you eat will naturally decrease.

It would be nice if repentance worked to rid cravings. It doesn't. High carb foods set up a high glucose/insilin reaction cycle that will drive you to eating carbs. When your blood sugar goes up your body produces an abundance of insilin to counter it. This drops your blood sugar too low which results in carb cravings.

The answer is to stop eating carbs that will up your blood sugar. Granola bars and trail mix have a lot of sugar. When you crave carbs find a lower glycemic food that will raise your blood sugar slowly and always pair it with protein. So, when you hit a craving have some cheese and cucumber or no sugar added peanut butter and celery. The low glycemic vegetable will raise your sugar back up out of the craving level and the protein will hold you there.

Thanks Laura. I was wondering how you were doing with all that. And I remember you being a big proponant of SB many years ago and was hoping you would pop in and give your insight.

Hi, I'm Megan. I have a very large amount of weight to lose, 75-100 lbs. I have tried losing weight several times and I always seem to gain what I lose (which isn't much) and then some back. I want to be healthy, energetic, and in shape again!

My ultimate goal is to be at a healthy weight for my height. I want to have energy and be able to keep up with my kids (when I have them).

Do you have a plan to get there, or are you looking for one?

I want lose the weight in a healthy way. I plan to start exercising and changing my diet gradually. I'll take advice and ideas on how to stay motivated or other plans of action.

Do you have a time line you're working in to be 'in shape' by?

I have a lot to lose, so I think 2 years is a reasonable amount of time. However, I would like to lose some weight...say...20-30lbs by this time next year cause I'm getting married :D

I'm starting now

Do you have mini-goals set up along the way for yourself?

Not yet, I want to set some up though, any suggestions?

I've stated this in the weight loss thread in the Health & Fitness folder:

My mini goals are:
1. Weigh less next week than I do this week
2. Not eat cake today.

So far I usually reach those goals.

I REALLY need to join this thread. As I type this I am sitting here at work with the top button undone on the largest pair of non-maternity pants I've ever owned. I feel like a slob. Right now though, exercising is pretty much impossible...we spend 4 hours on the road to and from seeing the baby, and the days we are home its non-stop "catching" up. Fast food has been our meals of choice for the past two months. Ugh...any quick tips? I feel like getting my body back (not that it was that great but...) is an impossible task. Maybe I just need to wait until Isaac gets home then think about it. Ugh.

I can imagine you're not in an easy boat. Yuck!!

Some thoughts for you.
*pack healthy snacks for the road (veggies, fruits, etc)
*try to pack one meal a week or something, just to help with teh fast food
*when you CAN eat at home, eat healthy
*when you park at the hospital (or any parking lot), park far away and walk
*take the stairs over the elevator
*increase your water intake
*when eating out, choose the healthier foods. While they aren't great, fast food salads are still better than fries and a burger. Chicken sandwich instead of a burger
*Drink water over soda

Erin,
Don't wait to think about it. You will need all the energy you can get when Isaac comes home. Losing weight and controlling carbs will go a long way to giving you more energy.

There are choices you can make at fast food joints that will help. Don't get fries. If you get a burger throw away at least half of the bun. I toss the whole bun. If you can choose grilled chicken go with that. Choose salads whenever possible with ranch or bleu cheese dressing as those are the lowest carb dressings.

Laura, thank you for the SB info and your advice on what to do about the carb cravings. I've bookmarked both posts and printed them off to put in my weight loss notebook to read when I'm struggling.

Last night at church bible study someone brought in donuts and cookies...the really good kind. I looked at them and thought, "I suppose not eating cake today includes cookies and donuts." I'm happy to report I met that goal yesterday. Now all I have to do is accomplish that goal today.

I was going to ask if the cake goal included brownies and ice cream too.
