Kat, Congratulations!!!! I love it when the scale moves!!

I peaked at my highest weight in 6 years. 6 years ago we were really fat and out of shape and watched the Discovery Health Body Challenge. My father in law had almost died from heart disease at 55 (thank God, He gave us a miracle and healed him!) so my husband said he wasn't going to do that to us and we decided to do the program and get healthy. It was the hardest thing I'd ever done but went from a size 18-20 to 6-8 in 12 weeks! I lost 40 pounds. 181 to 141.

The reason I'm back up to 171 is because we moved to another country and it's been a crazy time. But I found out I have 3 herniated discs and even though I'm tiring easy, I have to get back into shape to be able to live more comfortably!

I lost 3 pounds of water weight the first day and haven't moved in 4 days.

I'll be praying for your back, funny_girl.

Yolanda, I picked up a copy of the book at Walmart for about $5. The gist of it is: Phase One- two weeks of no starchy carbs, no fruit, lots of low-fat meat and beans, dairy and PLENTY of greens and other veggies (don't skimp on those or you'll pay!). Phase Two- You add back some fruit (no tropical fruits- they are way high in sugars) and whole wheat grains. Don't stay on Phase One longer than two weeks or you can really mess up your metabolism. Phase Three- well, I'm not there yet, so I haven't read that chapter.

I think that sums it up pretty well. Other's that know the plan can probably chime in with extra info and corrections as needed

Trish --- use a sports bra. My physiology teacher said that even teh smallest breasts can be damaged permanantly by not being fully supported when working out. The fibers that make up the breasts start to stretch, and they don't shrink back. So get a bra that supports well.

I couldn't stand my regular cotton shirts when I ran. They just didn't feel right, they bunched, they were hot. So when I was at the mall I wandered into Sports Authority. I was really looking for a sports bra, since I've too lost weight and my chest has shrunk. But I also got an Underarmor tank top for running. I loved it so much that I found a similar shirt at Target. They are light and loose and yet they don't look loose. They are AWESOME!!! No wonder atheletes wear underarmor underneath their uniforms.

a lot of the south beach info is online, but the paperback is real cheap as mentioned above.

I wear the underarmour t shirts and shorts, well everything. They cost a little bit more but they last a long time. Plus they've been selling the same plain ones for a few years so they aren't out style immediately like the Nike ones.

The tanks don't look right if you have a big stomach like I do. Plus they run real small.

If my stomach ever gets flat than I can wear them.

I just ordered the south beach paperback from the amazon marketplace for $1.53...and shipping for $6.... so about $7....not too bad.

I did a couple Turbo Jam videos this morning, and i feel a bit better.

You had been doing the GI diet before, correct? SB shouldn't be too much different. I know that the writer/doctor includes and abbreviated GI list to help with food decision making.

Yeah, I was attempting the GI diet, but there were too many special things I had to make. Like special muffins, and a lot of beans added to stuff.

The only thing that I might be worried about, is hubby gets angry (like seriously angry) when I mention not eating potatoes. They are his major staple....he'd probably rather me take away his meat!!

Anyway, I'm going to see if he'll do phase I with me, just for my benefit...no potatoes or bread (at least here in the house) for those 2 weeks. I really love bread and potatoes too, but I know they are my biggest enemy.

Oh, and we're about to move in with my in-laws for a couple weeks while we do renos on the house, and they are definitely NOT low-carb in that household. (oh, she makes the best bread and rolls, and pie, and cookies, muffins, squares, etc.)

Anyway, I think I'll wait until we're back in the house to start phase one.

I just make potatoes and rice for Micah and Gabby, but I have been eating like this for awhile so maybe I don't notice as much? If I really feel like I need them then I make a sweet potato/Quinoa/ other grain for myself.

I kind of understand. Not baked potatoes but french fries.
I like sweet potatoes but I wouldn't force a meat and potatoes person (which i was raised as) to switch or quit them.

He is very much meat and potatoes type of guy. I'm going to talk to him and see if he can handle two weeks. "for me" LOL

I love sweet potatoes, but I never make them because he won't eat them (one of the very few things he won't eat) and I don't have time or energy to cook both sweet pots and white ones.

Anyway... I'm trying to save up for new sneakers for my 5K in November. The ones I want are about $100. I gotta figure out a way to put away some money for those.

We do percentages using an online program called Diet Power. http://dietpower.com/ It helps you see what your metabolic rate is. We need muscle tone to burn calories quicker. I think it has a free trial if you'd like to try it. Going on 7 years using it and would be lost w/out it!

It looks like a pie and w/fat, carbs, and protein. My goal is 1200 calories a day, w/a total consumption of 10% fat, 25% protein and the rest carbs daily. As the food is entered into the progam it automatically graphs it out for you and you can eat whatever you want! So easy!

Right now my breakfasts are usually 4 egg whites rolled in a grilled lowfat flour tortilla. Coffee & coffeemate

You get used to what you can eat to get your portions right. I usually go over but stay under 1300 calories.

I think I may be a thread killer, lol

I'm happys because the scale budged today!!! 166.5 yeah! my goal is 141 or 25% body fat. I'm already feeling better, although not as anxious to finish my workout today. It's definitely helping my back and I it's only been 5 days!

@yolanda, you get to run a 5K!! how exciting. I ran 5 miles once in some new NB tennis and my big toenails fell off!! OUCH! I took those all terrain ones back!

We have a yummy baked potato wedge recipe, it's easy and really low fat!

Slice your potatoes about 1/4 inch thick, place on a cookie sheet lined with tin foil and sprayed w/butter flavored Pam or another non stick spray. Then, spay Pam over the sliced pieces and season w/seasoned salt and cumin powder. Back in oven at 375 for about 15 min. but check them and adjust temp and time because my memory may not serve me right.
They're yummy! :) You'll want to do a few batches to get enough.

I'm doing fair, going back and forth losing and gaining the same five lbs. When I lose weight, I tend to eat a lot more, thinking I can eat as much as I want and still lose weight. Then when I gain, I tend to feel bad about myself and either eat more and not care about myself anymore or cut back to near starvation levels to try to losw weight. I'm on a low carb plan and sticking to it is hard, but it's the only way I can lose weight that's worked for me, so I've got to make it work, that's all. This is just SO frustrating!

I managed to do something yesterday that I've never done before. Went to a baby shower yesterday, ate sandwich rolls with flour tortillas and a piece of cake and DIDN'T FALL OFF THE WAGON! I went right back to eating properly afterwards. Normally that would have been my excuse to binge the rest of the day!

My scale was strangely low this morning. I don't believe it. But it was a great way to start a Friday.

My scale was down too. I think it's hormones with me. It's been holding fairly steady for the last two weeks, so I'm due for another dip.

Official weigh-in this morning... 203!!!! That's 18 pounds lost in the past six weeks and only 4 pounds to my first mini-goal! I know I'll start slowing down soon and I'm cool with that. I made a spreadsheet to track my weight. My goal is to lose 1.5 pounds a week and that will put me at my ultimate goal next October. I made a chart to compare my goal weight with my current weight, so as long as my current weight line isn't over my goal weight line, I'm very happy. It's amazing what motivates us nerds.

Well I don't know if I lost anything and I don't care! I finally figured out it was probably dairy causing my tummy issues so I quit eating the activia and got some lactaid and I am not as bloated! I don't know why it took so long to figure this out. So maybe later I can actually do some measurements because it was changing every day. I also gave up the pop again. So I have had a flatter stomach for almost a week now.

I think the activia works for some but not for others. It worked in the beginning but after awhile you get used to it or something. I like your chart Kat. I just hate to log everything every day.

Hey Kat, do you want to share your chart template??

I'm still doing the C25K, just completed week 5 last week! We were so stoked!

Now, in the next week or so, we are planning to start the South Beach diet. Hubby is already saying he's going to cheat when he's not at home though ....that helps. I told him that I can't *know* he's cheating, even if he's not around, so he just can't cheat. Period.
We'll see how it goes, LOL!
