I'm about to head to bed. I've just chucked it in the dryer and it's now 11.50pm.

Yay, Garsy! Hope you get some rest today.

Donna, sounds like you've tried to be fair with the visitation. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well, and you're able to stay out of the heat. My last pregnancy put me in the bed for a couple weeks because of HBP, too. K was born 2 weeks early with a C-section because my BP spiked. (And she still weighed over 9.5 lbs!)

Denim, I hope you get everything worked out for Jessica and that you hear soon about summer school for the twins.

We had thunderstorms in our area last night. There were about 150 homes in surrounding counties that were still out of power this morning, and had been most of the evening. With this heat, that had to be tough. We had a brief power outage, only about 30 minutes. I don't like storms, but I would welcome the rain (even if it came with a storm) because we are so very dry around here and temps in the 90's. I think about seniors and kids in camps (especially sports camps) and pray they are okay.

I have no doubt that if she doesn't like it and wants to take us to court, any half-sane judge will laugh her butt out of the court, if the clerk even allows it to GO to court. I hope she just accepts the schedule.

WOW! I have already told both OBs and the CNM with the practice that I absolutely refuse to go past my due date. Levi was born on his due date and was over 10 pounds. Hannah was born 3 days before and was over 9 pounds. I do not have gestational diabetes...I just have big babies. I ain't going over.

All my kids were over 8.5 lbs. I was only boarderline for gestational diabetes with S and never had to take insulin, just watched my diet (which wasn't much since I was sick almost the whole time).

All four of my mom's kids were over 8 lb 10 oz and under 9 pounds. My husband is 6'3". I would be shocked to have a small baby. LOL

Actually, Noah was 7 lb 11 oz, but I had a serious placenta problem with him so I'm sure that's why he was so little.

E-gads!! girls! I wouldn't know what it's like to have a baby over 8 lbs!

Ethan was my biggest at exactly 8lbs.
Aryn was exactly 7 lbs.
Ty and Zoe were both inbetween!

Brian's a bit irritated again! Went all the way into town to his class this morning and class was cancelled! Nothing like WASTING his time and our GAS! It's 23 miles up to the school and 23 miles back! AND yet the professor takes off points for missing class without prior notice but he can take a day off and not let the students know! I think I might be more irritated then Brian.

I have to get Ethan's soccer socks and uniform washed and dried today! He's got a game tonight IF the weather holds out! What hit Iowa yesterday could hit us as early as late this afternoon.

Blessings,

Garsy

Garsy, that is infuriating. What class is this? Can he call ahead and make sure there will be class?

Kath, did you get severe weather again? I heard them mention your area being affected by the same system that came through our area. We had storm (tornado) sirens so I ended up in the basement.

We had really bad weather. I usually don't go in the basement when the sirens go off because our county is so big, but they said the tornado was in my town so Linz and I headed down to the basement. It was scary, there was so much rain.

I didnt' think to grab my purse. I used to, so I don't know why I didn't. Linz wanted to grab the animals but I said leave them.

Larry said he is going to buy a tv that runs on batteries, one of those little ones. We have a weather radio but I couldn't figure out how to use it. I learned last night though after it all went by.

I heard a tornado touched down on the other side of town but I've not heard more than that. I'm not sure if it did or not.
quote:

Do you feel panicky when you hear the siren or is it just normal around there? I can't imagine not feeling panicky.

When I was younger I was more panicky, but now I'm not. Sometimes when the sirens go off everyone heads outside to look at the sky. Probably not a good idea.

quote:

It got to 10.50pm and I suddenly realised that J and X are going to need sports clothes for school tomorrow, so now I'm going to have to sit up until the load is done so that I can wash them and put them in the dryer before heading to bed.

I've done that before too. Sometimes I'll just stick them in the washer and get up early to dry them.

quote:

We spent the day out of town yesterday to celebrate my ds's birthday (a few days late). We had beautiful weather and a thankfully a safe journey.

I'm glad you had a pleasant day :)

Donna, I hope she just accepts the visitation schedule without fussing.

Wow, that's at least 2 gallons of gas. too expensive to waste. Plus like an hour travel time. I can't believe the guy can't email everybody in a mass email. I'd be furious.

See that's what really gets me! It's an ETHICS class!

AND the prof expects them to be there! Everyone has an e-mail account through the school because that is how they turn in papers and such so the prof. KNOWS and has ALL the e-mail accounts! It would have taken all of 5 minutes to send out a mass e-mail to let people know not to come in!

I hate when I forget stuff till late like that, Kylie.

Sounds like a nice day out Julia!

Debilyn, I hope you get some needed rain soon. It's crazy how some parts of the country can be flooding while others need rain so badly.

I hope you don't get any trouble about the schedule Donna.

That's frustrating Garsy; some folks just don't get it I think.

I'm glad you are OK Kath.

Very sad about the boy scout camp in Iowa.

Last night I was more concerned than I usually am; but not overly concerned. After I got downstairs I realized I needed a radio so I went back up for that. I should probably be more careful. I have a hard time staying put downstairs. But the radio stations do a good job of having storm spotters out giving reports as well as relaying what is seen on the radar.

I was downstairs and they were saying there is rotation south of X on highway X, which is right where I am. So that was a little weird. But I didn't have a sense of anything bad happening to my house at that moment.

But shortly after that they were talking about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile wide tornado heading to the next town. The next town over did get a direct hit with all of its schools damaged. They are reporting 75 to 80 percent of the homes as having damage. Many of those are completely destroyed. One person there is confirmed dead. This is ten miles from my house.

Actually, now I'm realizing that I should be quicker to head to the basement and stay when there are storm sirens. They are showing people on TV saying it just came so fast. Some guy didn't have time to head down to his basement.

Definitely a good reminder to be more prepared.

Garsy, most professors at our college will let students know ahead of time by email if they will not be able to make the class. If it's an emergency, they usually have the department secretary either put up a note or notify students by email (if she has a list). We do have the occasional professor who doesn't do either one. I feel your frustration!

Kath, Dee, (and others in stormy areas), glad everyone seems to be doing well despite the tornadoes and bad weather.

quote:

When I was younger I was more panicky, but now I'm not. Sometimes when the sirens go off everyone heads outside to look at the sky. Probably not a good idea.

And yet, that is simply human nature. I know that when we have storm warnings, we'll usually go outside to see if it's close by before we head for shelter.

We have a good battery powered radio and usually keep batteries on hand, even though we're not in the local "tornado alley." My in-laws have a crank radio which someone gave them a couple of years ago. I don't know that they've ever used it though.

Larry's daughter gave us one of those for Christmas, it runs on batteries or by cranking it.

When is tornado season, so I can never even drive through the states you all live in then?

Noah finished standardized testing today and they cleaned out their desks and brought their stuff home. He did bring all of his workbooks home. I am going to have him do his cursive one over the summer, since he started way later than the other kids and next year has to write ALL in cursive. The rest I'll leave up to him.

The principal never did call me back, but I have a feeling she didn't get the message and I hadn't told the secretary what I was calling for either. I'm pretty sure he'll at least get an honor roll thing...and we'll see about the attendance thing. Awards and kindergarten graduation are tomorrow morning. Brian took the day off.

Yeah Donna!

And then others - Like my sister and her company - travel around the country and come in after storms to do various things! My sister and her company go in and set up shops to repair hail damage to cars and trucks. It's one of those jobs that are iffy some years and in years like this year - VERY profitable!

Ethan had his second to last soccer game tonight and afterwards they treated all the kids to icecream! Well there was enough for the adults to have some too! Then they pulled out the waterballoons! They didn't nearly have enough! Ethan was asked to trade positions with a player on the other team tonight too - which he did with no problem. The way our league works is that if need be players will play for the opposite team if needed due to numbers or any other reason the coaches deem necessary. I think they had Ethan trade places so they could seperate a pair of siblings that have had a really tough time getting along this past week. Last week the one brother was playing on our team and managed to bean his brother in the face HARD and then laughed heartily about it! According to the parents the bickering lasted ALL WEEK! I guess the boys are VERY competitive in absolutely everything so playing on the same team just isn't working!

Blessings,

Garsy

That's a nice way to do it. :)

Basically, summer.

No, really it's just May and June for the most part. It's because of the season changing, cold air mixed with hot.

They hardly teach cursive here anymore. I guess because everyone types now.

That's nice! I hope he gets both awards. :)

I think those people are nuts! It's the thrill I guess. I've seen some video where they were watching and the tornado changed course and headed right for them. No thanks!

Hi all,

I hope those of you in bad weather are safe and well. We're pretty lucky where we live, all we get is the heat. It's suppose to be 100 and it's only June, but we're pretty used to it by now.

The girls are out of school, today was their last day. Actually we let Jessica skip school today, the jr. high group from church was going to the coast. She is one tired, sunburned but happy girl. The twins are a little sad. They won't have the same teacher like last year. They are in special ed. and their class is 1st-4th. So they have been with this teacher for 4 years. She is a sweet Christian lady. Finally found out about the summer school. It starts next Wednesday and they will have most of the same classmates.

Well it's almost 11pm here I should turn in.
My love to you all,
Kim Q

I would have hardly taught cursive if he was still hsing. The only thing I write in cursive is my signature, and my handwriting is neat and legible. That's what I would have been most concerned with...neatness and readability.

Kim, that will be hard...getting used to another teacher after so long, won't it?

I LOVED when my kids finally learned cursive and started slowing down their pace when writing! Cursive FORCED my kids to slow down. Ty no longer uses it for writing BUT even his printing is much neater then it used to be. Aryn's cursive is so much neater then her printing ever was! Same for Ethan! Ethan just finished 3rd grade and his handwriting is still very difficult to read so that's what we are working on this summer! I have him write at least a page in his journal daily and if I can't read it he has to rewrite it. Yep I'm a mean mom. but the 4th grade teachers at our school do the same thing if they can't read something so it's just prep for school in the Fall!

Today is a rainy day here - we could get some nasty storms later I guess.

Blessings,

Garsy

Awards went awesome! Not only did Noah get honor roll AND perfect attendance (one of only three students who earned this one!), he also got most improved attitude (again, one of only three) and a diligence award. He was very happy, and was especially happy that Daddy took today off to be there. There weren't a lot of dads there...I will suggest that it be done in the evening next year. I'm glad Brian took the time. It was totally worth it for Noah to know his Dad is proud of him.

VERY glad to hear that!

I wish they would have held Ty's 8th grade graduation in the evening - but our district would balk at that I'm sure. As it was there were a wonderful number of fathers there, so it might not be as big a problem here.

I don't know what I did but my back is KILLING me! It really hurts!

I'm a tad disappointed. We were planning a birthday party for Ethan for tomorrow afternoon. Handed out invitations to ALL his friends and classmates and asked for folks to call us if they were planning on attending or not. We received a grand total of 3 phone calls. 3 and all from classmates/friends that are unable to attend. Now I didn't get anything - nothing extra anyway to even have a party with because I didn't get any calls. What happens if someone shows up? Well either way I'm not planning on being here. After the soccer game tomorrow morning we are going to pack it up and head off to the library, leaving a note on the door saying the party was cancelled due to lack of interest.

Blessings,

Garsy

(((Garsy))) I don't like it when people ignore the RSVP on the invites ... I quite often experience the reverse, as well -- everyone says they are coming and then *maybe* one or two actually show up ... when I've prepared enough for 30!!!

Not the library - the Zoo. and maybe the library afterward.

Ty has training tomorrow that he has to attend for his zoo job.
