Donna I was just thinking about you and Nick this morning. My MIL is a teacher at a small, Christian school, and she said that 3 of the 4 boys in her class last year were held back early on due to emotional maturity issues. Nothing wrong with their intellect, they just needed a bit more time to grow up. I hope Nick feels a bit better once he starts school. He has wonderful support from you and your hubby, and that will make all the difference in the world. Thanks, Ruth. I think it's pretty common for boys especially to need that extra time. Part of their hesitance to hold Nick back is his February birthday already made him much older than some of the kids in his class. But what they didn't account for is that he also gets along better with younger kids. I wish we could do more than we are able to for him. That's the hard part...we're so limited. And it's hard to remember that God is not limited, when we can't see Him moving in this mess.

HEY! I'm fun! Our plans for the 4th...Brian will probably be driving the VBS float in the parade again, which entails all of us being up early and bringing him there and then "trying" to find him afterwards (ha...that was fun last year...we are so picking a meeting place this time!). Hopefully, he'll take at least Noah or Nick with him...probably Nick would be best because Noah can help me and Nick hasn't gotten to do much special lately and Noah has. The other kids and I will wander the park and get some fried dough as a treat. After the parade, we'll find Brian and then head over to my mom and dad's for a BBQ. Fireworks at night, if it doesn't rain. For this, we will make sure and separate from everyone...we really enjoy this time with JUST us and our kids. It's nice the 4th is on Friday this year, so Brian doesn't have to get up and go to work, although he will spend all day Saturday hauling firewood out of the state lands with my dad.

Oh - so that was a confession, wasn't it.... We did the fireworks last Saturday. Seems odd with folks growing up to have different people there. Poppa's sister's yard faces the hill they use so we can just picnic and then put the chairs on the other side of the driveway and get as good a show as you would want....

I really don't know what we are doing. Larry thinks he has the day off, but he isn't sure yet. They work a lot of holidays. It's good money but he needs a day off. I think Linz will be with friends and I'm not sure if Mike wants to go to the park and watch fireworks. He wasn't interested last year and if he doesn't want to go then I won't either. We don't normally get together with extended family.

I will be working on the 4th...but only until 4:00. Hopefully we will be able to catch a fireworks show and some of the festivities. My dd has a friend from Japan that would like to see "big" fireworks before she returns home. It's time to start collecting bugs for ds's fall science project. The only problem is that we are in a drought and there aren't many bugs (we usually have an abundance of the critters) flying around.

Okay...bad idea...bad idea...bugs really start to stink when stored. If ds gets desperate however, my tune might change...

Hi all! I'm glad you got some good news Garsy. We have a house that many would consider too small for six people, but you've reminded me of one of the reasons I'm OK with it; smaller utility bills. I missed Bible study this morning; I didn't feel like rushing out the door, and I couldn't find my book last night. I don't know if I'll go this summer or not; I wish I hadn't gotten a book. It seems like a waste to not go. I hope you get the rain you need Debilyn and Julia. Donna, I am praying for Nick. We don't really have plans for the fourth. I think hubby is off; he works a lot of holidays too and they've approved overtime again, apparently, so we'll see. We'll go over to our church to watch fireworks probably, it's a good spot. The church has some things planned as an outreach--hot dogs, chips, cookies, music--but I don't know if any of us are helping with that yet. Julia, I HATE squishing bugs too. Especially in the house. There was a cricket in here the other day that was so big it was scary. I was glad my son was around and willing to take it outside. Thankfully we have the 4yo convinced that capturing and releasing fireflies is the way to go. Dee

Mmmm, banana bread just out of the oven ... best stuff you can find. We'll head over to the lake tomorrow (3rd) for the day and enjoy fireworks tomorrow night. We'll have to be back in town the 4th so that we can pack for B's youth mission trip, since they are leaving Saturday. We might catch a local fireworks show here if we've got all his stuff washed up and packed. We start school on August 19th. I spoke with my MIL yesterday and we were comparing notes. We still have a day-trip we'd like to take - to the zoo or the children's museum - but when? Between doctor's appointments, community and family events, and kids' activities, there isn't much time left for my in-laws to take all of the kids somewhere like they hoped to do. Oh well, that's the way our summer has gone - and it IS half-way gone.

Oh wow, it is July already!!!!! I had to go back to the old thread to try to keep up. Ok, so I moved and my house is almost the way it should be, but we are going on vacation after the 4th. Still not sure when we are going to leave because Kali has to march in a parade on the 4th. But we are going to Washington DC and Williamsburg. I want to try to get to Gettysburg if possible, but I think we are going to end up in Antietam instead, which is still Civil War related, so good for me. I am excited because in DC we got tickets to get into the White House, The Washington Monument, and we are having breakfast with our State Senators at the Capitol. So that sounds like it is going to be fun, and we are also pretty well planned out for Williamsburg. The rest we are just kind of going to do as we go along. I am not sure if any of you remember what happened last year when we tried to drive from Orlando to Atlanta. It was like a puke fest in the car. By the time we got to Atlanta, the entire car smelled, and I think it got into our skin. It was pretty bad, so if we have to take the ride slow, we will. I hope everybody has a great holiday!

Antieman is so different from Gettysburg. Quieter and more respectful. We did two days, one at each, and the difference is glaring. We had been to Gettysburg before and that may play into our impressions. If you go, and pick up the guide for the driving tour of the battlefield and THEN decide to do the whole thing and go to the bridge on the other side (I'd have to ask Poppa the name) it is beautiful, but... Make sure your kids have been to the little tourist room before you go because they don't have one over there. Or they didn't two years ago. There are great photo ops at the sunken fence. The bridge / creek is nice too. The town is quaint and has shops but no fast food. If you go out to the east, there is a grotto. Crystal something that we wished we stopped to see. We stayed in Hagerstown when we went and the room was cheaper than Gettysburg and we drove about 1 - 1/2 hours to get there. We stopped at a park with a small waterfall and hiked (because I LOVE waterfalls of any size and geological source) I could go on, but I won't. Re: BUGS! I think we should be 'collecting' bugs ourselves. We have found a Luna Moth and a Dobson Fly in the past two days. And, we saw a bald eagle Tuesday. The thing that got me was that BigBee asked if that was what it was, I said 'maybe' and got closer and said 'yes' and just kept driving. It was flying upriver while we were driving down. I feel bad, but in a way it is cool that we can take them for granted WHILE DRIVING. Poppa said he would have stopped right there. I could have, but Mom & I saw one a month ago and there was no way to stop without risking an accident. There has been a nesting pair there for at least 6 years and there area includes the schools airspace and several homes we visit.

Thanks momma! I hope we do have time to get to Gettysburg, but I am not sure if that is going to happen. We did get a whitehouse tour, and today one of our other Senators called and said that one became available so we could have it if we wanted. So I guess we got two, eventhough we turned the second one down. We are going to have breakfast with all of our senators one day during the week, not sure which day at this moment. One thing I have to say is that I am one of those "anxious" people so while I am looking forward to getting there and seeing all there is to see, I am not dealing well with all this travel and hotel stuff. I hate sleeping in hotels and it is starting to get to me. But I am trying to keep my focus on the good. I will have to come back and post when we are back, but I am sure I will be posting along the way since all of our hotels have free wireless access and we do plan on being back in our rooms at night because we have to be out early in the morning for everything we are doing. Plus that will be good for me because I am going to need a break from all that is going on around me. So here we go......

Good Morning Everybody!!!! We got to watch the fireworks in downtown Akron last night. They were sooooo beautiful. We wanted to do that because we heard they did a great job and we were leaving to go on vacation today anyway so we rushed to pack yesterday because Kali had a parade and made it just in time. It was awesome. It was not a nice drive since we were in such a hurry, but we didn't have to speed and we stopped only when we needed gas and to go potty so we made it just as they started. But we did end up watching them from the car while we were trying to find a place to go. We finally gave up and stayed in the car and drove around while on the phone trying to get directions to our hotel since we took the detour. I hope everybody else had a great holiday. Momma, it looks like we are going to skip Gettysburg, but we are going to go to Antieman and some other places though.
