Status: offline 		So each time I return to this site I can look at the list of subscribed threads, to see if any new posts are in them?

2nd question.
I am not understanding the bookmark feature. I though this was something like subscribing to the thread, but I am finding that is not the case.

The bookmark is to mark one specific post. You can find your bookmarks when you click on "My Forums." The bookmarks will be at the bottom.
