All those are not "dancing in the Spirit" - those can be sincere gestures on our part towards an awesome God - but that does not mean they are done out of a lack of self-control.

I agree that we have the free will to control what we do, But do you not belive that when folks are espressing sincere gestures towards an awsome God; that that feeling is directed (encouraged) (brought forth is us) by the Holy Spirit.

David is one example that comes to my mind.

An example that has been covered in this thread and it does not present the backing for this thing you're supporting.

It's evident Preachers are not teaching on how the HS works in todays churches.

Really? Is that why so much chaos and nonsense is seen taking over a lot of churches? Antics and practices not found in Scripture - teachings which are contrary to Scripture - and prophecies that do not come to pass.

As my Preacher daddy used to say"It's much better felt than telt" I't's almost impossible to explain the work of the HS to someone who has never experienced it.

I would like to know why (how) exactly I have never "experienced" the Holy Spirit. Please, I am asking sincerely.

Now as far as the video,I completely agree with you. That did not give me the inner peace of the HS.The Spirit within me said no,this is not of the HS.I believe it was of an unholy spirit.

Glad to see we agree. Now if we could just find a biblical basis for what exactly you're saying is something the Holy Spirit does to someone that they lose self-control. Being that self-control is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Pastor RC - I do indeed agree with your statement and notion. But that is a FAR cry from those that claim things are movements of the Holy Spirit - such as "dancing in the Spirit", "singing in the Spirit", "slain in the Spirit", "Trances in the Spirit", "Clucking in the Spirit", "Levitating in the Spirit", "Barking in the Spirit.", etc..

That video immediately brought to mind the whirling dervishes. Despite different clothes and music the same trance like state and gyrations are prevalent in both of them, 1000's of miles apart from one another. Dare I say they are both of the same spirit and it is not holy.

I understand, but I am only talking about folks who get so estatic in their worship and praise that they "dance" around while praising.

I have not watched the video as that part of my system has crashed.

The folks that I deal with use "In the Spirit" to refer to the range of feeling that one expeeriences when praising and worshipping God. Those feeling may be joy, humbleness, estatic, or quiet. The term is used as an expression of the communion with the Holy Spirit at that particular time.

To us in our neck of the woods singing in the Sprit, is singing with "tongues", which rarely happen, but occasionally does. It is a beautiful act of worship, and many folks that cannot carry a tune in a bucket join in with perfect harmony. No musical instruments, no one leading, just worshippers with their voice raised in unison (some in tongues, some in english, some in spanish, some in a variety of Native American languages) to praise and worship their God. When this happens it usually ends with everyone kneeling or prostrate on the floor with a prolonged prayer time (and I do mean prolonged). No orchastrating, no instructions, it just happens and happen in perfect unison.

Now as far as the levitationg, barking, clucking, trances, etc; if that happened in my Church I would put a stop to it immediately. Now why would I stop that and not the other? Examples and instructions in Scripture.

Now what others use the expression "In the Spirit" for; I do not have a clue.

Thanks
RC

I agree with your post 100%.The expression"In the Spirit"is just that,an expression of ones spiritually motivated actions.I don't believe levitating, barking, trances things like that is of the HS of God.It may be of "a spirit"but not the Holy one.The Bible says "try the Spirits and see if they are of God".I do believe very strongly that for everything God does, satan has a conterfiet.Satan does come as an angel of light deceiving many.

Pastor,I do agree,If anyong one started these things in your church, you have every right to stop it right away.I wish there were more preachers like you Sir.

I'm sorry I'm a bit late here. If people are still interested, I can chip in my two cents from a dancer's perspective.

Please do a post or drop me a PM if you'd like me to write something, and let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like to know about.

If you haven't done so already, take the time to read the thread and watch the video examples posted. We're not talking about dancing as part of a worship team, or a special.
