Well when I was a child I did want a Cross Tattoo, then after time I look back and I'm very thinkful I never did. But how many people would say "That person must be a Christian" with Tattoos on them? I would never want my child to have one, so if I would not want my child why would I have one. Now what if some one gets one and now they have to live with it, you have to be willing to deal with whatever that brings with it. MAP2010

MAP2010: Well, I guess there are also other faith related designs, such as the fish sign, or a Bible ref. etc. Various types of designs could lead to conversations; and this might be the motive for the person having gotten it in the first place, maybe. Also, for example, a lady might have gotten a tattoo of a bf's name, and he was not a Christian, and she is converted and wants to put a distance between her and her past, and so, eg, intstead of a tattoo saying "Bill", or whatever, she modifies it to, eg, "Bible". Even people who loathe tattoos would find it hard to dislike the idea of her doing that, I guess. A lot has to do with the person's motives and circumstances, I guess, right? Take care. quote:

If it was something small maybe, but I'm not into women who get tattoos. Not every day people get tattoos you have to have an edge about you and that would not be something I would want. See I put my child to be before myself and ask would I want a mom with a tattoo? If not then I would not be able to have a girlfriend with one, for if you could not married them do not date them. If more people asked would I married that person? They would save a lot time. Mark

MAP2010: So you would refuse to date a Christian lady with a good testimony for the sole reason that she happened to have a little tattoo, however tasteful? Well, it's your decision, but I guess some ppl would think that was rather drastic, more drastic than getting a tattoo. (But what do I know?) Like you say, some tattoos are small anyway. Fact is, even some pastors' wives, grandmothers etc, might have a tattoo. quote:

Well I did say maybe, if I meet her and then she told me I have a very small tattoo maybe. But not if she plans on getting more. Mark

MAP2010: Ah okay, sorry, I see what you mean. Anyway, you would soon get used to it, Im sure. Fact is, young ladies these days often want to go to the parlor for their 18th b-day and get some ink (good, bad or indifferent); but I guess if it's faith related and leads to constructive conversations, so much the better. Take care. quote:

Okay, so some ppl regard all tattoo art as ugly, well fine. Other ppl think that some are aesthetically positive, and some have a witness motivation, as effective conversation-starters. I guess everyone is different.

I was listening to the radio while driving into work the other month and they happened to be talking about girls with tattoos. I listened and was shocked to hear what these guys thought. In particular that if a woman had a certain kind of tattoo then she was easy. I found this shocking for someone in my own family had just gotten such a tattoo and I had to admitt that described her well. Yes certain kind of women get tattoos and certain kinds of men don't like them but then again others do for different reasons. Some wear them as badges of honour and bride and others see them as warnings to keep clear of such people. Personally, I would not have anything come between me and Christ. Pirates, criminals and other unsavory types have always gotton tattoos, has that changed?

Apparently so! I see more tattoos on women than I do men these days.

Any man, claiming to be a Christian, judging any woman (or another man, for that matter) on outward appearances has failed to understand the concept of Christianity. It is very clear, the penalty for judging others... we will be judged by the same standard by which we judge. There is but ONE judge and He assigned a mediator on our behalf. Did Jesus spurn the Samaritan woman at the well? She had many things working against her: (1) she was a woman (2) she was a Samaritan woman (3) she had multiple failed marriages (4) she was involved with a man who was not her husband. Jesus looked past all that and even scolded his disciples concerning their reaction to Him talking to her. I thank God every day for looking past my flaws and shortcomings! Leviticus 19:28 " 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD. Of course, most of Leviticus is an instruction book showing the redeemed people of God how to worship, and the warning against cutting and putting on of tattoo marks were because of their relationship to pagan rituals. It was also a matter of health, but moreover, a matter of obedience. If tattoos are considered, by some, to be a sin, then they are also sins covered by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. A tattoo received prior to salvation has already been washed off by that blood. Save your money and your angst! Christ has already covered it!

disciplelife: Thnx. The same chapter that you refer to also says about men not trimming the corners of their beards, I wonder if the context is Old Testament Jews in the land under the law. Some people don't get a tattoo necessarily for its own sake, but if it's faith related for the effective way conversations about faith can come about. But anyway we are all different. I guess what you say means that you or your wife dont have one? Take care. quote:

faroukfarouk, Yes, pretty much the whole of Leviticus references, or is linked to, the Ten Commandments. Health issues were rampant (my guess is gangrene!) and the Old Testament Jews were the same lot who had a tendency to celebrate God's good work in their lives by worshiping rocks and hand-built idols. Today, some people tend to want to separate the two covenants for the sake of creating a "feel good" atmosphere surrounding their lives and they way they live it. There also seems to be a belief that Jesus, somehow, "suspended" the Old Testament Laws. In context, the Bible should be taken as a whole and not be separated in order to have God's inerrant and infallible wisdom and instruction be distorted. I have a tattoo I got years before my salvation and would not get another. I briefly toyed with the idea of getting one with my daughter's name, but was convicted not to, by the Holy Spirit, after great and prayerful consideration. It would certainly not have been intended as a conversation starter and would not have been visible with a short-sleeved shirt, but God spoke and I listened. I have also seen many tasteful and artistic designs, including faith-based artwork. But, I have also seen tattoos that have made me ill! I work with a fellow who has the face of Jesus on his shoulder, but is so satisfied in his season of sin that I have only been able to reach him briefly before he slips away again. That particular tattoo was, indeed, the icebreaker for my witness to him. I pray I have not offended, as many people will disagree. My intention is not to spark angry debate, but open a healthy, spirited (no pun), dialogue... purely based in Biblical truth, not just my own interpretation. My desire is to purpose myself every day as a child of God, to earnestly seek his will in my life, to follow his Commandments completely, and without question, and live my life to bring glory to Him.

disciplelife: Okay thnx. I guess your wife (ladies being the original subject of the thread) doesn't have one? Sometimes it's the faith related aspect that principally motivates people to go ahead and endure the needle and get one, anyway. God bless. quote:

You are correct sir, tattoos on women was the thread starter and although I mentioned mine in the last post, it was meant as an example. Although currently unmarried, my former wife has two, both pre-salvation, both in fair taste. She had prayed on many occasions for the resources to have them removed, but I helped her understand that God sees inside, as we should, and that they did not affect my thoughts or feelings towards her. I meet Christian ladies all the time with tasteful tattoos. Most have endured the needle pre-salvation, and in one instance a lady has gone through expensive and painful laser removal and made things worse! All because she was felt it was inappropriate, even though the already existed. Fresh tattoos for Christ?! No. Justify it how you will, God says no.

disciplelife: I see, thank-you. What I wonder is, though, if for instance a lady has a tattoo of an ex-bf's name which says, eg, "Bill", and she is converted, then if she wants to modify that tattoo to say "Bible" instead of having a reminder of the person firmly in her past, it's hard to be hostile to such a modification, I guess, right? Also, would you discount the value of any faith related conversation which may arise from a thoughtfully motivated faith tattoo design? God bless. quote:

faroukfarouk, I do feel it appropriate to modify, or remove, an existing tattoo that could cause someone to suffer anxiety or animosity. And I certainly would not discount the value in faith related conversation which might arise from a thoughtfully motivated faith tattoo design. If the Lord were to put it on her heart after thoughtful and prayerful consideration, and it not be something she chose by, and for, herself, then it would surely be something of wonder and a sight to behold. disciplelife

Well, exactly, we can't limit the potential for faith conversations that may arise, I guess. quote:

Yes, well sounds like you do really appreciate the faith related aspect, linked with their artistic value. "Something of wonder and a sight to behold": I reckon not a few ladies think like that, in any case. (By the way, is your avatar a tattoo design? it certainly looks like one, anyway.) God bless. disciplelife

faroukfarouk, If the tattoo has genuine, Spirit-led intent, who am i to question that? The avatar is a generic one provided by the host. disciplelife

disciplelife: How is that? then, my avatar is changed.... It's the intent behind the tattoo that is an issue, like you say, right? (Anyway, instead of arguing with the moderator, I'm sure that raivyne is capable of starting a tattoo-related thread on another permitted thread, if she wishes.) Take care.

disciplelife: You see, particularly some older ladies who have maybe gone for years without a tattoo but have considered one, may have in the end have gone over the edge in their minds and gotten one precisely because of the faith related aspect. Otherwise, some of them would not have bothered, from purely a personal-related aspect. (Okay changed the avatar again...)
