I am not one who can tell what a woman can or can't do to her body. If my fiancee wanted to get a tattoo, that would be perfectly fine with me. After all I have two myself, on the inner part of my right and left fore-arms. It would be rather hypocritical for me to deny her one. But since she doesn't want one that is fine to. Positioning is everything though. For being in a position where their is a high degree of profesonalism, I usually wear long sleeves to cover up the tattoos. Got to maintain some set of standards.

I walk alone: So I guess she knows you would be okay with it if she did. But anyway, there seems to be perceived 'professional / unprofessional' and 'ladylike / unladylike' paradigms. I guess the view you take is that a lady's tattoo can be unprofessional, but it's certainly not outside your definition of ladylike, right? And actually the lady who served me at my bank (smart, professional lady) happened to have a tattoo... quote:

Exactly, we have talked about it time and time again. But she just doesn't want one, but she also knows that I am perfectly fine with her getting one if she wanted it. I do not believe that a tattoo would make a lady any less of a lady. When it comes to professionalism, I was a bit too general and please forgive that. Professionalism typically depends on the circumstances at hand and the type of profession a person has. I personally think its cool, to see people at work with a tattoo/es. However, a tattoo on their face may shock me at first glance. But I won't condemn them for what they do, just because I find something like unusual.

I Walk Alone: quote:
ORIGINAL: I_Walk_Alone Exactly, we have talked about it time and time again. Time and time again? Sounds like you really would like her to get one, or - at least - would be glad if she liked to get one. quote:
But she just doesn't want one, but she also knows that I am perfectly fine with her getting one if she wanted it. I do not believe that a tattoo would make a lady any less of a lady. Fact is, some grandmothers, pastors' wives, etc might even get one and they are often in the category of an example of conservatism and moderation, I guess. quote:

But I won't condemn them for what they do, just because I find something like unusual. I don't think the lady at the bank whose tattoo I happened to notice was any less professional because of it. I do think that if a lady or man is going to get one, s/he needs to be personally committed to it rather than persuaded to get it by someone else. (If that makes sense.)

I understand what your saying. Down in Florida, I see alot of older peple with tattooes and some of the really nice designs make me think, where did they get those done, because I look for quality in the work, and not getting one just for the sake of shock value. I agree with the commitment to the tattoo. No one should ever push someone to do something that they don't want to do. The way I see it, she is beautiful with or without it, so I am a truly blessed man.

I walk alone: So I guess you mean that you're not trying to encourage her to get a tattoo. But rather, you would say, if she herself liked the idea of getting a tasteful one, then you would be glad to encourage her to get it. (If that makes sense.) quote:

I walk alone: So when you talked with her about tattoos time and again, like you said, was it you who kept bringing up the subject to get her interested, or was she interested already in your tattoos to the extent that she kept commenting? Interests can be communicated, but I guess there is a fine line between that and actual advcacy, right? quote:
ORIGINAL: I_Walk_Alone Yeah thats what I am trying to say. ...

We would usually talk about them when we see something that would be a nice design. Be it from an album cover, movie, or what a rock star has done. Not really much in advocacy, more of a common interest in the subject. After my last one, I almost fainted and the look on my face was enough for her to say thats not for me. Then I told her, after that I think it is over for me as well. 2 is all I need. So I fully support her on whatever decision she makes.

I Walk Alone: Sounds like she quite likes them, right? but that when you seemed to be rather in pain from your second one she kind of chichened out of the idea completely, or for a long time, anyway. I guess some ladies don't like needles, right? Take care. quote:

PrincessButtercup: Well, fact is, they do, believe me. Some women like faith related ones. Take care. quote:

Oh I know some girls do. But my intense fear of sharp pointy things keeps me from understanding their ability to endure the process. haha!

PrincessButtercup: So is it your 'intense fear of sharp pointy things' that keeps you from appreciating tattoo art, or is it the art itself that you don't like? Take care. quote:

Most of the tattoos I see are very huge, tacky, and simply ugly in my opinion. A lot of this "art" is very distasteful. It's not that I don't appreciate them, but find them unappealing. Sometimes I find a small tattoo on a girl kinda pretty, but not very often. But even if I saw something that I did like, and thought it might be cute on me, I wouldn't be able to do it.

e.barrett: Interesting points you make. I think tattoos need to be consistent with the principle of modesty. I don't think it necessarily follows that all tattoos are inconsistent with the principle of modesty. quote:
ORIGINAL: e.barrett But isn't that true of anything? Should we get our hair cut? If we don't doesn't that draw attention to our bodies? If we do, doesn't that also draw attention? How should we dress? Do we wear a suit and tie (or a formal gown)? Don't those draw attention to ourselves? What about a potato sack? Doesn't that also send a message? Maybe we just wear a gray shirt and pants, but doesn't that say we're intentionally not drawing attention to ourselves, which means that we really want attention to be drawn to us? Where do we draw the line? Everything we do can be interpreted by someone as a way we are drawing attention to ourselves. Which is why it's our faith in Jesus that determines our salvation, and not our actions or dress or the presence of tattoos.

In response to the topic poster,I do not have a problem with women getting a tattoo/tattoos as long as the tattoo is not a form of idolotry,or anything evil. I have yet to see a Pastor get a tattoo, however I wouldn't doubt that there are some out there.Especially Pastors that got tattoos before they were called into the service of the Lord.

A woman having a tatoo doesn't really decide if i'm attracted to her or not. there are some women who have them whom i think are pretty sexy.

Knolt: I guess there is the thing that faith related tattoos can be effective conversation starters. The motive for ppl getting them can be faith related. quote:

Its like the story of the Fruit Tree, what type of Tree would have Tattoos? Do you feel that as a Christian it would do you well to have one? If a girl walked by with one whould you ask is she a Christian? What are Tattoos? They are to show what a person is about, do you think it tells of good things? We are like Fruit Trees: Mat 3:10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
