Well, yes, a lot of women do, don't they?

It may bother some ppl, irrespective of the tattoo design.

But others would say, if there is going to be widespread ink about on ppl, then let some of it be constructive faith related ink that will be effective conversation starters. If you had a gf with a tattoo that was faith related, and an effective conversation starter, you would find that you become accustomed to it and it wouldn't bother you at all, maybe?

Take care.

Oh, I do not have a girfriend now, I just have noticed that a real lot of women lately do have tatoos these days. A changing of the times perhaps?

I'd probably be ok with it, but its just unusual though.

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/13/2008 9:16:44 PM)

humbleinspirit:

Okay.

Do you think it's constructive, for a lady with ink, to have it in a faith related design that acts as a converstation starter?

(I know that part of it is for the lady, gf, herself to be willing to participate in any such conversations that the tattoo might start.)

One of my very good friends got a faith related tattoo recently. She is in prison ministry and it has been a good conversation starter, therefore I cannot knock what God is using for the common good instead.

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/13/2008 9:23:06 PM)

humbleinspirit:

That's the kind of thing that I meant.

Did you know that she was going to get it beforehand? and did it surprise you a bit? and is the design and placement effective, do you think?

Take care.

No, and yes, it did surprise me a little bit. I think that the design and placement was good too though.

humbleinspirit:

You were a teeny bit shocked, then; so why do you think that was? is it because you had a more 'conservative' image of your friend? I guess it can be said that if the message being conveyed is conservative and Bible based, then the old conservative /radical disctinction maybe doesn't apply as much.

Take care.

Yes, it wasn't something that I thought that my friend would do, however that is ok though. She is a really unique person! [:)]

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/13/2008 9:47:50 PM)

humbleinspirit:

So what was your initial reaction to her, did you commend her faith tattoo?

(Is she a younger person, by the way?)

humbleinspirit -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/13/2008 10:03:11 PM)

She is just a little older than me. I supported it.

humbleinspirit:

I see, so she's a lady approaching 40 that got her first tattoo[sm=icon_smile.gif]. It must have been a milestone for her, anyway, and one which she definitely decided to use to communicate her faith.

For ladies the placement is oftan shoulder or ankle, but I guess hers is upper arm, maybe?

(For us men, it's often chest.)

Whatever.

Take care.

humbleinspirit:

Ankle tattoo as a near-40 year old Christian lady's first tattoo. Well, it's hard to hide, I guess, especially in the summer, right?

Do you know if any of her family hasn't gotten over the 'shock', yet?

Take care.

humbleinspirit -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/13/2008 10:20:11 PM)

Honestly, I think that the rest of her family thinks that it is cool instead!

The difference being that whatever the changing custom may be, earrings, piercings etc can be removed, but the tattoo is permanent, right?

Now are women getting tattoos as a symbol that they are tough or is it just more the style now instead?

Itt is just the style. As with bell-bottom jeans and pet rocks, it too will pass.

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/13/2008 10:23:51 PM)

humbleinspirit:

I see!

Anyway, so are you now more 'convinced' or whatever the word is, about the suitabilty of constructive faith related tattoos on women[sm=icon_smile.gif]? (I think you were a bit hesitant at first as to whether they seemed convincing to you, unless I misunderstood)

Take care.

I still do not know, however I am not gonna judge anyone if they do get one though.

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/13/2008 10:35:23 PM)

humbleinspirit:

Oh I see. Thnx.

I guess you are still rather conservative, which is fine. I suppose that years ago it might have been said that 'nice' ladies didn't get tattoos. lol
Whereas increasingly nowadays a tattooed lady with faith related ink can be a potent reminder of the immediacy of faith, right?

So did her tattoo come across to you negatively, neutrally or positively?

quote:

ORIGINAL: colliefan

A young woman with whom I had a brief conversation this morning works at a local college-related coffee shop. How did I know this fact; she had a tattoo of the chemical symbol for caffine on her arm.

Itt is just the style. As with bell-bottom jeans and pet rocks, it too will pass.

Pet rocks huh.LOL. I don't know if it will pass anytime soon. It seems women started out getting one small tattoo somewhere, like the ankle. Now I know a few who have multiple tats. They see women like Angelina Jolie with numerous tattoos, and now it is cool to have a bunch of them.

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/15/2008 6:00:53 PM)

SBG:

Well I guess if a lady gets one on her ankle she doesn't have to get any more; she shouldn't feel pressured, anyway, right?

I do not get what you are asking me.

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/15/2008 10:31:02 PM)

SBG:

Well, I think you wrote that some women start with one on their ankle and end up with several. My response was simply that even if one tattoo is obtained on the ankle, there is no need to get more if they don't want to.

Some do, of course.

Regards.

Of course. I don't think they feel pressured to get more, they want to get more. My response was in that I don't think the tats on women trend will go away soon. Reason being, it has gone from only one small one being acceptable, to now multiple being acceptable. I don' t think it is attractive on women, but if they like them, whatever floats their boat, I guess.

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/16/2008 1:14:38 AM)

SBG:

Yes, I agree that it's become more popular among women and that the trend is likely to continue.

I think it's not unknown for pastors' wives, grandmothers to get some small amount of tasteful ink, right?

I realize that you don't, however, find it tasteful, which is fine.

Take care.

This I know absolutely nothing about. But to each his or should I say her own. If a woman wants a tattoo, and sees no problem with it, then by all means. Who am I to stop her.

Take care.
