I think since I'm the original poster, I'm the only girl allowed to post in this thread. But just in case they delete your post, I'll copy it to mine because I love your question! Thanks!!!

What if the tattoo is done to cover up a scar? Example: I have a 4 inch scar on my right leg just above the ankle bone. It's been 7 years since the incident and I believe the scar has faded as much as it's going to fade, so I've considered a simple black 2 inch tattoo of a scrolled cross or something else that is meaningful or 'tasteful' to kinda disguise the scar.

willfs -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/13/2008 10:16:52 AM)

After posting this I realized that I have dated, even seriously, some girls with tattoos, so who knows for me.

Mandicoot, I have some questions for you. Why do girls like getting tattoos? I guess if I was the type of guy to get a tat then I might better understand it but women can do the same thing a guy does for totally different reasons.

Also, I know of several women who, when they got divorced, went out and got a tattoo. I have always been curious about that.

PrincessButtercup -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/13/2008 11:07:14 AM)

I never plan on getting tattoos because I am terrified of needles. And I really don't understand why some girls enjoy it so much. The other day, I was working and waited on a young woman covered in tattoos and found it the most disgusting thing on earth. She was gorgeous, but those large unsightly tats distracted so much from her natural beauty.

As for them enjoying it, it may be that they just want attention. Or maybe they want to fit in with a certain crowd. I know a girl who got a small tattoo the same as one her dad had as a sort of bonding between the two of them, and I find that interesting. Another girl I know designed her own tattoo with the help of her sisters with each part meaning something important in her life. Some girls think that guys would find it sexy, and some guys do.

I haven't heard that some women go get tattoos after a divorce. In my mind, that's the worst time to get one. I wouldn't want a permanent mark on my skin commemorating the most heart-breaking time in my life. But it may be something to do with the identity crisis they may be enduring, losing their other half, so they may feel the need to reassure them of who they are by some symbolic tattoo. This part is all just speculation though.

e.barrett -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/13/2008 12:50:09 PM)

I usually don't post in threads like this, but since it seems overwhelming negative, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

I think tattoos are great (assuming, it's actually a cool tattoo). I don't really see them being an issue. And if they were done in a rebellious period, that doesn't bother me. What I'm interested in is the character of the girl.

I don't think tattoos prove anything bad (or good) about a person these days.

PrincessButtercup -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/13/2008 10:18:12 PM)

Another female user pm'd me some comments regarding a divorcee who got a tattoo. It put this tattoo in a light that I had not considered...

quote:

As far as a divorce tattoo, well, I hate tattoos but my cousin got one that I think is appropriate. She and her 2 children left her abusive husband. She got a tattoo of one large and 2 small buttterflies flying out of a net or something like that. She said it was very theraputic and the process did more for her sense of wellbeing than she could ever imagine. Now she is discreet and keeps it covered and my grandparents will never even know it exists because they would have a fit and she knows well enough not to be "out there" and offensive with it

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/17/2008 2:24:24 AM)

I'm not arguing in favour of them, but these days it's not necessarily unusual for even grandmothers, pastors' wives, etc to have a little tattoo, maybe faith-related design, even.

1mlasp -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/19/2008 2:53:59 PM)

A small one on her ankle will not get all saggy or become 5 times its original size in 30 years. Could look cute with sandals, or better yet, barefoot.

Though still not a fan, I don't understand why it would be a "deal breaker" to some.

Blazingson -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/19/2008 3:28:01 PM)

Leviticus 19:28 "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord."

I follow the word of God and don't have a tattoo, my future wife better not get one either.

That's the only area I wouldn't mind.

Personally, I would probably never considered getting a tattoo. For one, the mental image of a blotch of ink plastered onto my skin doesn't scream "you sexy beast!", it screams, "I need attention!".

Something I would like to add to the conversation is:
Why do you think it's acceptable to have a tattoo, or in this specific case, a woman to have one? or, where is the biblical reference that deems it "ok"?

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/20/2008 10:25:25 AM)

Grapeape:

Without being dogmatic, I am wondering about the context of the Leviticus passage, it also says about men not trimming their beards. I wonder if the context is Old Testaments Jews in the land, under the law.

But for example, if someone has a bf's name tattooed these days, and he wasn't a believer and she wants to put away her past life, I guess that if she changed a tattoo that said 'Bill' to 'Bible', etc. would be hard to criticize, in the circumstances.

I guess it would be hard for fundamentalist preachers to start arguing that men have got to wear long beards.

What will that exotic flair of a tattoo be when she is 75?
Do we REALLY think that ANYTHING about our body is going to look remotely good at 75?[sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]!!!!!!LOL!!

[sm=praying.gif]Hey dude,is this to suggest that maybe the ten commandments were only for the old testament jews? Not ALL of the law was done away with,we cannot discount the old testament.Grace does NOT mean that we can do just anything because we can find a way to justify it.People,we need to look at the origins of tattoos.'Christians' getting
tattoos is just wrong(so is getting all these body piercings),regardless of how they try to justify it.Again,WHY do 'christians' want to look just like the world that they are supposed to be coming out of,and commanded not to be a part of?Yes,tattoos(on women) CAN be attractive, but it is usually in a lusty way(though we may not realize it).And yes,I myself DO have tattoos.I got mine while living in a dark, sinful, and rebellious lifestyle, which is the element in which these rituals were born.If it became 'COOL' to cut our nose off,we would have just as many people running around without one!All I can say is to SINCERELY pray, and LISTEN,to what God and scripture would tell us about these things.

SavedByGraceMD -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/25/2008 10:30:16 PM)

I agree with most of the other guys on here, I don't like tattoos on women. I don't find it in the least bit attractive, especially the afore mentioned "tramp stamp", or lower back tattoo. It is there for only one reason, and not a good one. Sad to say though, that the old me, liked it. But I never liked any other tattoos on women, and I don't like any at all now.

can they be somewhat attractive?

Definitely, lots of extremly beautiful art around , but if its mearly a fashion attempt that she flashes to any tom dick or harry then no. Its personality dependant. Tattoo questions always get the same answers from this lot [sm=yummy.gif] though.

I mean, realy, a girl with a tattoo[:o]?! Oh my word, she's clearly no good

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/27/2008 4:51:03 PM)

Ben.VT

What about a faith related tattoo? do you think that conversations started by a faith related tattoo can be profitable?

humbleinspirit -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/27/2008 10:50:35 PM)

I've been noticing a lot more women lately with tattoos. I guess I am actually neutral towards to women having them as long as it is tastefully done and is not all over their body.

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (6/27/2008 11:02:10 PM)

humbleinspirit:

Yes, it seems to be true: I read somewhere that a tattooist said that as many women get tattoos as men. For 18 year old young women, apparently it's quite a custom for many of them to go to a parlor on their 18th b-day. Also, lots of women in their 40s and 50s are getting a tattoo for the first time, apparently.

I guess some ppl would say that if there are going to be tattoos about, for some of them to be faith related is a change from the rude and profane stuff that is too widespread. Often it is women who are particularly inclined to have a faith related tattoo.

I like a good tattoo, the big question i have when I see one is 'what memory is attached to it?'

That's why some ppl wonder if instead a faith related tattoo can be an effective conversation starter.

Oh, I do not have a girfriend now, I just have noticed that a real lot of women lately do have tatoos these days. A changing of the times perhaps?

colliefan -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/12/2008 2:57:17 PM)

A young woman with whom I had a brief conversation this morning works at a local college-related coffee shop. How did I know this fact; she had a tattoo of the chemical symbol for caffine on her arm.

humbleinspirit -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/12/2008 11:06:45 PM)

Now are women getting tattoos as a symbol that they are tough or is it just more the style now instead?

Itt is just the style. As with bell-bottom jeans and pet rocks, it too will pass.

faroukfarouk -> RE: Tattoos on Women? (7/13/2008 4:55:49 PM)

humbleinspirit:

Well, yes, a lot of women do, don't they?

It may bother some ppl, irrespective of the tattoo design.

But others would say, if there is going to be widespread ink about on ppl, then let some of it be constructive faith related ink that will be effective conversation starters. If you had a gf with a tattoo that was faith related, and an effective conversation starter, you would find that you become accustomed to it and it wouldn't bother you at all, maybe?

Take care.
