After posting this I realized that I have dated, even seriously, some girls with tattoos, so who knows for me.

Mandicoot, I have some questions for you. Why do girls like getting tattoos? I guess if I was the type of guy to get a tat then I might better understand it but women can do the same thing a guy does for totally different reasons.

Also, I know of several women who, when they got divorced, went out and got a tattoo. I have always been curious about that.

I never plan on getting tattoos because I am terrified of needles. And I really don't understand why some girls enjoy it so much. The other day, I was working and waited on a young woman covered in tattoos and found it the most disgusting thing on earth. She was gorgeous, but those large unsightly tats distracted so much from her natural beauty.

As for them enjoying it, it may be that they just want attention. Or maybe they want to fit in with a certain crowd. I know a girl who got a small tattoo the same as one her dad had as a sort of bonding between the two of them, and I find that interesting. Another girl I know designed her own tattoo with the help of her sisters with each part meaning something important in her life. Some girls think that guys would find it sexy, and some guys do.

I haven't heard that some women go get tattoos after a divorce. In my mind, that's the worst time to get one. I wouldn't want a permanent mark on my skin commemorating the most heart-breaking time in my life. But it may be something to do with the identity crisis they may be enduring, losing their other half, so they may feel the need to reassure them of who they are by some symbolic tattoo. This part is all just speculation though.

I usually don't post in threads like this, but since it seems overwhelming negative, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

I think tattoos are great (assuming, it's actually a cool tattoo). I don't really see them being an issue. And if they were done in a rebellious period, that doesn't bother me. What I'm interested in is the character of the girl.

I don't think tattoos prove anything bad (or good) about a person these days.

Another female user pm'd me some comments regarding a divorcee who got a tattoo. It put this tattoo in a light that I had not considered...

I'm not arguing in favour of them, but these days it's not necessarily unusual for even grandmothers, pastors' wives, etc to have a little tattoo, maybe faith-related design, even.

A small one on her ankle will not get all saggy or become 5 times its original size in 30 years. Could look cute with sandals, or better yet, barefoot.

Though still not a fan, I don't understand why it would be a "deal breaker" to some.

I follow the word of God and don't have a tattoo, my future wife better not get one either.

That's the only area I wouldn't mind.

Personally, I would probably never considered getting a tattoo. For one, the mental image of a blotch of ink plastered onto my skin doesn't scream "you sexy beast!", it screams, "I need attention!".

Something I would like to add to the conversation is:
Why do you think it's acceptable to have a tattoo, or in this specific case, a woman to have one? or, where is the biblical reference that deems it "ok"?

But for example, if someone has a bf's name tattooed these days, and he wasn't a believer and she wants to put away her past life, I guess that if she changed a tattoo that said 'Bill' to 'Bible', etc. would be hard to criticize, in the circumstances.

I guess it would be hard for fundamentalist preachers to start arguing that men have got to wear long beards.

I agree with most of the other guys on here, I don't like tattoos on women. I don't find it in the least bit attractive, especially the afore mentioned "tramp stamp", or lower back tattoo. It is there for only one reason, and not a good one. Sad to say though, that the old me, liked it. But I never liked any other tattoos on women, and I don't like any at all now.

Definitely, lots of extremly beautiful art around , but if its mearly a fashion attempt that she flashes to any tom dick or harry then no. Its personality dependant. Tattoo questions always get the same answers from this lot [sm=yummy.gif] though.

I've been noticing a lot more women lately with tattoos. I guess I am actually neutral towards to women having them as long as it is tastefully done and is not all over their body.

Yes, it seems to be true: I read somewhere that a tattooist said that as many women get tattoos as men. For 18 year old young women, apparently it's quite a custom for many of them to go to a parlor on their 18th b-day. Also, lots of women in their 40s and 50s are getting a tattoo for the first time, apparently.

I guess some ppl would say that if there are going to be tattoos about, for some of them to be faith related is a change from the rude and profane stuff that is too widespread. Often it is women who are particularly inclined to have a faith related tattoo.

Oh, I do not have a girfriend now, I just have noticed that a real lot of women lately do have tatoos these days. A changing of the times perhaps?

A young woman with whom I had a brief conversation this morning works at a local college-related coffee shop. How did I know this fact; she had a tattoo of the chemical symbol for caffine on her arm.

It may bother some ppl, irrespective of the tattoo design.

But others would say, if there is going to be widespread ink about on ppl, then let some of it be constructive faith related ink that will be effective conversation starters. If you had a gf with a tattoo that was faith related, and an effective conversation starter, you would find that you become accustomed to it and it wouldn't bother you at all, maybe?
