My cat seems to think he's a dog. When he wants my attention, he doesn't meow or wind around my legs, he flops on the floor and rolls over to get his belly scratched! And we've never had a dog for him to imitate, either!

Before Sally and Linus I had a pair of Labradors named Mac and Samantha. Mac and Sam loved the mail lady, Jamie. One day I was across the street from my house at the park playing with them, (they were off the lease and were usually pretty good about staying with me) Jamie came driving through in her mail truck. Mac and Sam ran in front of the vehicle, causing Jamie to stop. They then both ran to the doorway of the truck, (you know how mail trucks have a doorway, but no actual door?) jumped in the vehicle and onto her lap to lick her silly. What a goofy pair!

My brother has a black Labrador named Zeke, but I call him BDO (for Big Dumb Ox). That dog is huge, and a bit slow.......I tho't labs were smart. Anywho, BDO will chase one of those laser penlights. It is hilarious. He will bite at the wall even. He's rammed his head into the wall too many times to count trying to get that light. And he'll keep looking for it up to an hour after we put it away...

I discovered this when I left a glass of Orange Kool-Aid on my coffee table to go answer the door. When I returned he was halfway through with the thing. He does like other flavors like cherry and strawberry, but orange seems to be his favorite.

Orange kool-aid is the only kool-aid we buy around here, but I don't think my cat would ever drink it. If he's on my lap, though, he does think he has the right to smell whatever I'm drinking. Just to inspect it, I guess!

I've got a spoodle named Bailey. He's know to chase geckos too when he sees them around. He's also crazy about tennis balls. One day I threw the ball for him. He went chasing after it and it bounced of his nose going backwards. I'd never seen or heard of it before, but that boy of mine did a 360 backwards somersault chasing after his tennis ball! Yes, he ended up with it!

http://climbing.about.com/b/2008/09/12/horton-the-quandary-dog.htm This dog's name is Horton and I've been following his story for quite some time now. He lives by a trail head on the foot of Quandary, one of the 14er peak in Colorado. He holds the record for the most ascends of that mountain because hikes with complete strangers on the trail and he does it 4 times daily. But he feels them out first before he decides who to gets his company all the way to the top. Isn't he amazing. I'm for sure going to climb this next year and I'll try to get him to come up with me. He's just such an awesome dog!

I have a rescued pit bull, Chico, who thinks that he has to have at least one piece of my clothing with him at all times...if I have a basket of clothes sitting there he will pull out a couple of items until he finds the one he wants (he's picky about which ones he choses too), leaving the rest lay around the basket! Then at bedtime he forgets all about the clothing and cuddles up as close as he can to me for the whole night!!

Even though I was fully aware of the temperament of the breed I chose ... I am still in awe when I see it in action. When I let the dogs out today, there was a small bunny trapped in the fence. It's legs were bleeding from its attempts to free itself. My dogs found it immediately, and for a moment, I was a bit nervous about what they would do. (Even though when I had Sally, she did something similar with a different bunny a few years ago.) Sally laid next to it and licked it gently ... Linus laid close by. The poor rabbit was probably having a heart attack. I went in the house to see if I could find something to loosen the fence so we could let the rabbit go free. I came back, the dogs were still on guard around the bunny,I then let the poor fellow run free. It reminded me of when Sally was probably 10 months old ... there was this Tom Cat in the neighborhood that scratch her nose more than once. She is very independent (and way too smart for her britches ... if she had any) and is quite the escape artist. (She will figure out how to unlock a gate and let herself out.) Well, one day, I went out to play with her and she was no where to be found. We searched and searched, and finally found her ... lying next to the Tom Cat that would scratch her nose so often ... keeping it safe. I was amazed. The little girl in my avatar was in the habit of using my dogs as a trampoline ... it didn't matter how rough she got (or any child, whether they knew them or not), they remained to their gentle nature. If anyone wishes to have children, or already has them ... this is the breed to get. They are so gentle that when the "work dogs" tend the sheep, they will actually serve as a midwife of sorts and aid with the birth .. licking the newborn and some have reported the dog biting through umbilical cord. The instinctively protect and nurture the young, animal or human. If they find an injured animal, they stay with it to protect it from predators ... and they do not need any special training to do so. Yet when faced with a predator, they will fight to the death if need be to keep their family safe. They take on both bears and wolves ... and bad guys ... but somehow know what is good and what isn't. (Mine actually ran off some coyotes once!) Great Pyrenees are the best!!! Even if one of them has epilepsy.

Have any of you read a book called Dewey about a library cat that lived in IA after being dumped down the afterhours book shoot on the coldest morning of winter? It's a true story. It's by Vicki Myron.
