If what you saw was relatively new, I'm guessing it was the SmartCar. They're starting to pop up here and there. If it was older, the original Cooper Mini wasn't very big.

How about a camping trip to some nearby campground? That way you are still away - but not all that far.
We are actually planning on going to Minnesota for a week, BUT if for some reason that doesn't happen we are going to go to a nearby state park and do a long weekend of camping.
If that doesn't work - Turn off the phone, lock the doors and just hang out!

well i drive 12 miles round trip on my 4 days i work part time . i drive a scooter motorbike it can go 80 but i only go what every one elses doses. i get good gas. 3.00 fills it up and its the 93 octain.actually only kind my bike can use.i have a lil basket on the back.i can fit quite a bit of groc. bages in there.i use a helmit. and a rain jacket when it rains. i live in fl. so its a must...

That's a good suggestion. We're going to try to do something. There are so many pretty places nearby, that we can probably think of something. Personally, I'd love to just stay home, but that's hard to pull off.

How am I dealing with high gas prices? One of the airlines sent me an email that a few airlines are a part of to send a message to your local congressmen to repeal futures buying of oil.

And motorcycles and regular bikes. But scooters only work for a commute if you don't go on the freeway. But some states you need a motorcycle license to ride one anyway.

For us, it's faster to walk many places and there are some places that the buses don't even go. However, with the heat lately, I'm not up to walking or waiting for a bus.

My 74 year old Father in law just bought a 49cc scooter.
I took it for a spin, fastest I could go was 45 mph.
But I'm not a small person, a little over 6ft and a little over 200 lb's.
He road it last week to the drug store about a 15 mile round trip...

A scooter would be great, IF I didn't have to haul around CHILDREN! Not ONE child but several children. Oh that and if I didn't HAVE to take the freeway to get to practically anywhere I need to go. Help those of us that have FAMILIES find was to cope!
I'm sorry if I sound a bit irritated - but smaller cars and scooters aren't really a viable solution or even a temporary fix for a lot of us.

Sounds like staying at home is the best for some.
Make a list of what is needed at the house, let the one working pick it up on the way home from work.
Let the kids ride the bus to school...
Get by with one car-van-bus, whatever.

Here you have to live at least 5 miles from the school for the children to be able to ride the bus.
I live in the house that I lived in growing up. We walked to school. My friends and I didn't know that it wasn't safe for us to walk three miles to get to junior high.

Have you ever stayed confined to home for weeks on end with children???? It's summer baby! No school!
Unfortunately many school districts are also suffering budget cuts and one to the things on the chopping block could be transportation. We live 9 miles from the elementary my younger 3 attend, and 14 miles from the highschool where my eldest is a freshmen. So far we still bus transportation, Thanks be to God! But that could change.
But anyway. I chose to have my kids - so I guess I have to deal right?

Has anyone thought of converting to some other form of energy? Like gas or wine or some other source of power.
I think this is an initiative companies should be taking up (If they haven't already. It's all about being responsible and dealing ethically). They should be offering opportunities for change and get rid of the oil and the mess it creates.
In the mean time I am quite happy on my new push bike. It goes like a dream and saves money and does not create pollution. If I can walk or hike it I will. I want to get one of those little bikes that you can attach to the back of yours so I can get the kids to ride with me. It is also good for the health. I wear a mask when I ride. My daughter tells me I am funny. That's ok though. It's ok to be funny even when you don't mean to.
