And Jose Gonzales...he's also spectacular.


I will check out his early stuff. I LOVE Sufjan Stevens and Nick Drake. I will have to check out Damien Jurado and Jose Gonzales.

Lee Minwoo (korean singer, go to youtube and you can find this video)

His song "girlfriend" gets to me... it's in korean, and the english translation of the lyrics are typical, but its more of the emotion in his voice that gets to me....

He's My Son - Mark Shultz to me thats just so sad but if I remember right the son survived the cancer and doesnt have it anymore.. but it seems that to me its still sad.

Not sure if this qualifies as a "secular" song, but "The Coventry Carol" is a heart-wrenching Christmas carol about the massacre of the innocents by Herod in attempt to kill the Christ. If you've ever sung this in your choir, you know what I'm talking about.

I should have mentioned that earlier since I sang it at a karaoke night last year. That song is really high and the part I did best was play air violin in the instrumental interlude.

I love sad songs, sadly. There's also Eleanor Rigby (Beatles) , Gone Away (The Offspring), Acoustic #3 (Goo Goo Dolls), Adam's Song (Blink 182). Twilight (Elliot Smith). Dead Man's Will (Iron & Wine), Best I Ever Had (Vertical Horizon), He Stopped Loving Her Today (George Jones), Freshmen (The Verve Pipe).

Hmm... drawing a blank.

Oh - and James Blunt's "No Bravery" - there's just no hope in his voice!
