Me too. the longer I waited (trying to be patient) the more worried I got. I feel so much better having some news. The imagination is often worse than real life.

Brian broke is left tibula and femur along with his left arm. He will most likely be having surgery for those today. Right now he is getting a CAT scan to find out if there is anything internal.

Sorry to be pernickety, but there isn't a bone called the tibula - it's either the fibula (the outer and smaller bone of the leg from the ankle to the knee) or the tibia (larger of the two bones of the lower leg and the weight-bearing bone of the shin)

Whatever it is, the femur is the thigh bone, and the other is a lower bone, so this means he has broken his leg in two places, upper and lower. Poor Brian.

Praying.

Yeah....sometimes it's the not knowing anything that can be the worst. I am very glad you got an update....now I can go to the grocery store. I didn't want to leave and possibly miss an update of some kind...kwim?...ok...I HAVE to go get groceries...or we won't have much with dinner, just side dishes...lol.

No troubles. I can appreciate persnickety.

Thanks for the update; I have to agree with others, it actually isn't as bad as I feared. Is there anything that we here can do besides pray?

Hope its ok for me to post here...I've been praying
I'm glad its better than I was imagining too. My brother did nearly the same thing in a car wreck in early December- broke both his arm and leg on the same side and had surgery the same day. The recovery wasn't fun, but he DID recover.
Anything we can do besides pray?

I just cut and pasted the prayer chain mail. I guess they were in a hurry to get it mailed out. I think that it is the tibia that is broken.

The church is already rounding up meals. that is usually Donna's ministry (I will not cry, I will not cry...)

I am sure that there will be a lot more going on as time goes.

Praying for Donna, Brian and kids, praying that there is nothing else wrong with Brian, praying for the right doctors, praying for a speedy recovery, and praying for those who are physically close to Donna to be able to bless with her help.

I have been praying all morning and I have my church praying too.

So he broke his arm and leg? Poor Brian! Please let us know if there is more we can do besides prayer.

Does anyone know how the accident happened yet? Do they have car and health insurance?

Just got in to check the posts...Donna has been such a great friend to me since I began posting in the forums regularly, so when I read this, I almost cried. Wow. I am praying for her and her family. I know that you will, but keep us posted as you can.

Donna, Brian, & Family-
Praying for you guys! I hope the CT scan turned out ok. Praying surgery goes well, if he does end up having that.

This anesthesiologist technically didn't do a thing to/for me in the OR. But he wants to get paid. He was supervising. I understand.

Actually he didn't even need to "supervise" anything. A CRNA is perfectly capable and licensed to do those things on their own. At my hospital we don't even have anesthesiologists....only CRNA's. I would fight it.

Nicole- Let me get this right. YOU can miss sleep, but God forbid it if HE does? There is so many things wrong with that terrible attitude that your husband has!!!!!!!!!! That makes me SO MAD!

Janine, how would you feel if someone said such things about your husband? I know it is frustrating to see (what we perceive) as someone being treated unfairly by their husband, but lets not slip into husband bashing.

I'm sorry, Nicole, for what I said. I shouldn't have spoken in frustration. That was wrong of me. I apologize.

A lot of car insurances will reimburse for lost wages due to an accident. When my brother was in his accident the car insurance co paid for nearly everything.

Praying for Donna and Brian. Do you know if they have personal inusrance to cover him while he isn't working?

I asked her this and she said they do have something to cover that and car insurance plus state disability which should help.

ok...just got off the phone with Donna again. As Lisa said, broken bones in his left arm and leg...compound fractures (bone came through the skin) so they had to repair that with surgery. As far as they could tell he didn't have internal or brain injuries....small issues with the lungs (collapse of the lung I think she said?). He also has a broken pelvis, but they aren't really dealing with that right now...trying to get the more severe stuff taken care of first. He will be there at least a week.
The basic story....
they usually take two vehicles to church so she can usher the kids home for nap and he can stay to chit chat more....luckily he didn't have Noah with him like he usually does. Donna passed a tractor that was too wide for the road and she even had to slam on her breaks to get past it. Evidently though Brian got to it on a curve, so he didn't know it was there (and she is pretty sure it was over the line like it was when she came to it). He usually talks at church before, so she stayed there for a while, but when they released the kids to children's church and he still wasn't there she went to look for him. She got to the scene about the time they got him out of the car and she said there were tons of rescue and medical people there.

She said she is doing ok....they joked with her that they don't deliver there so she can't go into labor or they will have to ship her off somewhere else...lol. (Jessica...she joked that he was trying to one-up Paul...lol). People are making sure she eats...and their church prayer chain is going, along with people volunteering to help out with the kids. I asked how the kids are taking this and she said she talked to Noah, not the others, and he is ok. She is trying to stay positive and knows God is going to work things out.

They appreciate the prayers

Thanks for the update Sarah. I am glad they are covered too.
What a blessing Noah wasn't in the car! How horrible to find the accident though. Poor Donna. Keeping them all in my prayers. And Brian too, poor guy, I know what my hubby feels like when he is out of action and how bad he feels.

Yeah, Brian doesn't sit still much. I am glad that the rescuers were at the scene before she was.

Some of the tractors have HUGE things behind them. Even when some of them are pulled off the road as much as they possibly can they are in the other lane. I can't imagine how that farmer must have felt or the horror at what he witnessed.

Dear Donna What a lady to think of something like that in this situation!
Brian wins hands down

Do you think we could start a thread of encouragement for Donna in the W/O thread? I know they're trying to not have personal things in W/O ... but could we PLEASE make an exception to follow this 'adventure' so we don't miss any updates or prayer items and so Donna gets all the encouragement in one easy to read place?
