Hope you had a happy birthday, Trish.

Don't know about you, but I REFUSE to turn 40!

Thanks, Di. I did have a good birthday.

As for turning 40, I think I'd prefer to keep turning 39. Seems like a good number, why change it?

WOW Di, that makes you just about 6 weeks older than me!

Howdy everyone, how goes it here?

So we should be wishing you a happy birthday in late May?

Have you all noticed that Frank and Cindy's friend from their area has been posting in Singles?

Don't know who that is, Di.

Cool weekend here this weekend. Going to be cold in the morning when we go to church. Around 44F I think. Our church building is so cold that it won't be able to be properly warmed before everybody gets there. Oh well. Wrap up well.

Yeah, I guess so, I will not be 40 yet either! BTW, has anyone heard from Lisa Lisa (Saltlight) lately? I have not heard from her since she got married.

Neither have I. Now that you mention it, I'm a bit worried.

Maybe after your b-day, Mike, we should start a 39 and Holding Singles Club.

I haven't heard from Lisa Lisa in a while either. I had her address a while ago and misplaced it. I'll have to see if I can find that address again.

Trish, did you wrap up well for church this morning? Wasn't too long ago you were cooking in the heat....and 44 isn't cold; 'round here, that's t-shirt weather. Cold is when the wind is blowing at 40 mph, and the temp hovers around 20 below.

Did, did you ever find your phone? Since my cell is my only phone, I'd be in deep if I lost it!

Stop with the birthdays already, you're making me feel old!

Thankfully my back is a bit better, though it was hard to sit in the pew this morning.

Tomorrow is Monday. Ugh. I keep telling myself to be thankful I have a job....but my job is really stressing me out.

Never told my story about the phone. It's quite a doozy!

I called it ... no answer. Finally gave up and went home, where I saw my dad had tried to call me. Figured the phone had to be somewhere in the house so I called again in the vain hope I would hear it ringing. Somebody answered it and said they'd found it IN THE STREET!

She was surprised I had not called it so she looked in my contacts and called my dad. Meanwhile, Pops doesn't have my work phone, so he tried to call me at home (wasn't there) and the cel (duh!) to tell me the lady had tried to call him.

Tried to get her to give the phone to my co-workers but she wasn't by my office any more ... so I just drove BACK to the town where I work to retrieve the phone.

It's safely in the case now!

You can join our 39 and Holding club if you want to, Ruthie!

I must admit, I did wear a jumper to church, but it wasn't a thick one. I ended up being hot by the end of the service, so I'll know for next time not to wear something quite so warm.

Wow, it's been quiet in here.

What's everybody been up to?

The last couple of days I've been doing baking. Making cakes for them. Banana, chocolate, orange and coffee flavoured. I've been taking it around to the neighbours just to bless them. Interesting responses. It's been fun though.

Well, I am gearing up for not one but TWO Relay for Life events.

One is next week and the other is the last (partial) weekend in May.

For those who don't know what this event is all about, you may check out its web site HERE

Fit? Ha!

No, as I told people in my letter that went out, I am just "doubly motivated." I lost a dear friend to cancer in December, and that loss stings more than all the othe reasons I relay. Plus my Pampered Chef co-horts were putting a team together and I found myself saying, "I think we can do two Relays."

Please pray for sunny skies in Ohio ... the R word is in the forecast!

Well Di, good for you in doing something proactive for the cause. I've never done one of those walks, but I know of others who've done it too.

Hi, it's me again, hope everyone is doing well!

Things are OK here. Realty makes for an interesting life. Julie still officially hasn't made a cent at it in nearly 4 months, but there are a few things that could close in the next few weeks that could total a minimally livable salary for the time. I remain convinced that she will do well at it in the long run, especially given her stories of some of the other realtors, who are just in it to make quick money (and they either never make anything, or do it at the expense of the clients' best interest). Certainly it pays to chose a realtor carefully!

We're in the process of looking for a more permanent church. We had been going to a fairly large church that we stumbled on accidentally shortly after we got here, and it's been good. But we still haven't made any real friends there, despite being in different smaller group activities. We decided to check out some smaller churches, including a Presbyterian church across the street from the big one. We've been visiting there and Julie really likes it (her background is partly Presbyterian). I think it is OK but worship is mainly hymns, not something I'm horribly thrilled about. But more importantly, people are friendly and the teaching is solid.

Then last week we met with the pastor to ask some questions. Some theological (since I've never gone to a Presbyterian church before), and some about the church, etc. Then Julie asked which Presbyterian denomination it is a member of. We had thought it was the more conservative one (PCA) but it turned out to be PCUSA (the more liberal). That was a surprise to us, because his teaching never had any theological liberality that I could tell. He quickly emphasized that "we're on the conservative end of PCUSA" and reassured us that PCUSA officially does not actually condone homosexual marriages or clergy. However, I've been looking at PCUSA's website and some of their positions on social issues are pretty weak at best. Like, abortion is a "deeply personal" issue and homosexuality "seems" to be against Scripture and "seems" to be contrary to our physical design. Right, and the sky "seems" to be blue.

We're reasoning that if we become a member there, even though the church is good, we'd be supporting a denomination that is too liberal for our tastes. So I looked up the PCA churches in town and I think we'll start visiting them.

Hey one and alll ....

Grim news. Three people in my department have had their hours reduced, including me. This represents a 20 percent pay cut. For now, it is my intention to step up my involvement in Pampered Chef.

At first I was OK with it ... realizing that things could have been worse ... then it occured to me that I was still angry about the move out of middle management into this lower-level position, which made me vulnerable to downsizing.

My boss was very apologetic and hopes it will be temporary. Only way I see that happening is if someone decides they've had enough and leaves. Then that person will not be replaced.

I'm scanning the listings for PR jobs and dusting off the resume ....

Hey everyone,

Today's is my birthday...

Exciting news, right?

I'm in a middle of finding a place, and I need to find one by June. But the only thing holding me back is that these people want perfect A1 credit and with my mistakes, no one wants me at all even though I don't have a public record. And I'm really frustrated because I want this thing to happen right away so I won't deal with this stress but every minute, I have a road block and wishing I want to do something in desparation. I pray each night about this and nothing happens. I know he works out miracles, but I doubt he will will give me a miracle in this area.

I try and try to do the right thing and at times I feel like a failure before God because his children and as his child, I feel that I have to have the "best", but if I don't give his "best," and because of my past, God will not grant me anything.

Sorry to vent, guys, but these are thoughts I'm having right now. But I hope everyone is having a great day and a great Sunday in him.

Well we might have found the church! We visited a Presbyterian church in the conservative denomination (PCA). It's a new church plant in downtown San Antonio. It has *got* to be the friendliest church we have seen *anywhere*, by a wide margin! Lots of people wanted to talk to us, and know a bit about our life's story, not just "hi how are you?" One of the couples (involved in church leadership) even invited us to lunch at a nice Mexican restaurant after church and didn't let us pay! They have a lot of ministries around town that are a bit "think outside the box" -- which is exactly how I like it! (When I asked the pastor of the PCUSA church we visited about ministry involvement, he had a list of things, and they were good and fine but didn't excite me much.) Only disadvantage is that this is a very young church and Julie likes to have old people around to gain from their wisdom.

Also Julie officially had a house closing! First one, after 4 months of being a realtor.
