You would be surprised.. the AoG denomination does allow flexibility with the local churches. I know of many inner-city AoG that are indeed blunt Word of Faith. But also many that are doctrinally sound Pentecostal.

"are they permitted to get slain in the spirit LOL"

Right there is a perfect example of the circular reasoning that is within the movement. Because someone experiences it, they then go to Scripture and twist it around and interpret it in light of their experience, not in light of context.

Being slain in the spirit is not one of the nine spiritual gifts found in 1 Corinthians last time I checked.

I myself have experienced this. It was a few times, one time in particular it was during the Awake America Crusade at Dallas Texas that the Brownsville Revival people did there.

I am only speaking of myself, not going to speak for anyone else, but the truth of the matter is, the experience I received was totally of the flesh, not of the Spirit! For me, it was nothing more than manipulation, under the guise of Holy Spirit movement. I really wanted it to be God, and proclaimed it to be! But years later, during this painful process the Lord led me through, I had to confess, it wasn't of God after all! But a prideful, fleshly desire so I could say, "God touched me at that revival crusade and I fell down to the ground!" It was a hard thing to confess to the Lord, but I did, and He was merciful and just to forgive.

It is funny, but the church that I currently pastor, the former Pastor would have prayer lines for people at the end of the service and they would "kiss the carpet," all the time. I was told that it was always the same people, Sunday after Sunday, week after week. It was like a junkie looking for their next fix unfortunately.

When I became Pastor one of the first things I did was when I called forward people for prayer, many came that first Sunday. I told them two things, (1) there will be no catchers from here on out! (2), I really don't want anyone to go down at all. I'm not interested in that. I want God to truly minister to the need.

It was funny after that Sunday, the lines have been quite smaller, and some of the people who were falling week after week before I came, have left, and I suppose they have found them a church that allows that stuff to go on.

Brownsville (no further explanation needed there) is AoG. Tommy Barnett's church (highly WoF) in Phoenix is AG. Hills Church (Hillsongs) in Australia (extreme WoF) is AG.

It looks and tastes just like water doesn't it? Only it isn't. Just like WoF- to some it looks like water and it tastes like water but it isn't. If not for the truth (however twisted it gets) it would have never made it into the church in the first place. I'm not saying it is truth just that it has truth in it.

Taking it out of context, are we? Especially a controversial passage as this one which may not even have been in the original manuscripts?

Fish,

Are you there? I tried to find in written form where Piper said what he did about suffering/name it and claim it group. I think many people on the forum are unable to "hear" stuff on their computer.

The only thing I found was to be "heard" and not read.

I think Piper does a great job teaching us the true gospel and how the true gosple is about God being glorified and our be reconciled with him.....not what the name it and claim it group want people to believe that the gospel message is "all about me and stuff".

I will look around to see if i can find that. i forget that some dont have sound which is a pity because its the presentation of that video that is so impactful, especially pipers anger which im in full agreement with. I so appreciate good men of the pulpit who are not afraid to unleash a little fury because they are so passionate about God's word, and they cannot bear to see it prostituted for for the personal enrichment of the word of faith pimps.

For me and I am sure for Piper and you it's more than God's word it's about God Himself. In many ways this theology is so ugly because it withhold from God the right to be God and from us mere creations the ability to worship him in spirit and truth. It's a sad thing.

I dont know if this LINK has the exact quote of the audio that was brought up. But it does have several articles/sermons by Pastor Piper that talk about suffering in context of being a Christian.

For some time I have been thinking how the false religion of the Church of Global Warming and the Word of Faith crowd are so similar, Both are based not on reason and logic, but emotion. As the green movement is casuing economic hardship, the WOF movement causes emotiional hardship when its tennants are proved false,

If you did not know this where have you been? Just today on Benny Hinn was one of the founders of the movement; named Oral Roberts. Who said he planted a physical healing seed(money) one time while his wife was alive and spent it on a appendicitis. When he was eighty some years old. Went to the hospital with his wife. Said to her on the trip to there that he wasn't going to have surgery. That the seed money he had sown was going towards him, not to having the surgery. When they got to the hospital he got on to the gurney and went to the x-ray room so that they could do a ultarsound on where his pain was. When they looked at it in the beginning it showed that he did have a appendix. Which according to him he cried out o God and as the were about to move him to surgery. The area around his appendix became cloudy and the x-ray tech said look doc his appendix has just left. It's gone, which at that time I was on the floor laughing so hard I nearly died.

Now this is the same man who said in the seventies said that he say Jesus who was a least seventeen feet tall. That if he didn't raised one million dollars by a certian date the Lord was going to take him home (die). Well the day went by and where he didn't raised the amount. But he is still alive at least this moment.
