If you ever see that you get it, take a look at it. It's a pretty funny show and lots of countries around the world are picking it up now. I would suspect you would get it soon with the size of your Muslim population.
It's really funny, but definitely a lot more understandable if you've been around Muslims on a regular basis.

Oh, I have another question:
Has anyone seen "Jam & Jerusalem"? I'm wondering if it's any good, if it's funny, if it's worth picking up on dvd.

I've got a question. In the UK, do kids say a pledge of allegiance in school? It might be called something different over there. It would be where everyone stands, removes hats, faces the flag and says the pledge.

Mrs X. The answer is no in the UK. Those kind of things make me uncomfortable anyway. I don't even like the 'promises' children are supposed to make when they join the boy scouts. Any vow, promise or allegiance should be taken very seriously and only made when the person making it is in full agreement and fully aware of their responsibilities.

Does the UK have a pledge? Children just don't take it? Is HenriettasCat's opinions widely held?
You can find Christian in the US who are opposed to the pledge because "our citizenship is in heaven," but it is by no means the norm, even amongst Christians in my experience.

I have mixed feelings about saying oaths. I agree that those who say them should understand what an oath is and what they are saying, but I don't think it's necessarily wrong for children/adults to say it. I think that when these kind of things are taught those learning them should learn to think about the words each time they are said, not just recite them, and that doesn't happen often. Perhaps they are said too often and a degree of boredom enters and the words are just recited while the person saying them thinks about the prep they haven't done, the test they have coming up, the day at work, whatever... rather like some saying 'The Lord's Prayer'. When we were in school we had chapel and a group of Christians took it apart, looking at the meaning line by line.
I was just reading about the pledge of allegiance and didn't realise that the words 'under God' weren't added until the 1950's.

Thanks for your thoughts on it. I picked up another Ab Fab dvd and there was an ad for it, and I like French and Saunders but I don't want to waste my money on a dvd if it's not funny.

Yep, I definitely enjoyed that one. Haven't seen the entire series, because they've taken it off now, but I'm on the look out for dvds.

I am not a Brit (obviously) but I like The Bill lexie, do you get that there? Doc Martin is another great one, not sure if they are still making it though, haven't had it back on our tv...

We get Hustle on CBC. It looked interesting but I never got around to watching it, maybe I'll take a gander one day. I'm going to have to look for Spooks. I know we get The Bill, I just can't remember what channel it is on.

I love Spooks ~ Rupert Penry-Jones is wonderful! Can't believe that we're heading towards series 7!
