ORIGINAL: Crystal4287 Could someone give me the cliff notes on this forum thread? i am in desperate need to lose some weight my dr is on case about. here are my stats. age-24 WEIGHT-319.6 LONGTERM GOAL-190 is SHORTTERM GOAL-LOSE 9 LBS BY AUGUST 6TH HEALTH-possible dietabetes i have ajob that i walk a fair amount if i so choose but i could sit too. but i am looking for some help and suport on my weight loss. yes i am new to this site. but anyways idont walk at night when i get off work cause im usally too tired. i cant do many eercises at home cause i have no weights or balls or anuthing and my house is unleve so any jumoing or such movment would rattle my breakables on my dresser. any advice is appreicated. now what i am doing to lose weight: Taking green tea pills, dinking water, simfast, the kellog protein water ya name it seems like it has passed my lips at least once. ok ty for all your help and support in advance Welcome Crystal. Has your doctor given you a recommendation for a good diet? If not, I recommend either South Beach or Weight Watchers (low carb option). The amount you walk on your job is probably sufficient for now. If you can take an additional casual walk in your neighborhood once or twice a week you'll be doing great as a start. Ditch the green tea pills. There's no evidence that they actually help with weight loss. Slimfast is good as an occasional meal replacement but not as an overall diet plan. Kellog Protein Water? -- I've never heard of it. However, there are no quick fixes, magic pills, beverages or foods that will cause significant, long lasting weight loss and control. The only thing that works is controlling your diet...every single meal. For controlling your blood sugar, which should be your primary concern right now, you have to go low carb. The "South Beach" diet is excellent for those results. If you eat to control your blood sugar you will automatically begin to lose weight. Your short-term goal is very reasonable. I have much shorter-term goals. My goal is to weigh less next week than I do this week. My even shorter-term goal is to make it through today without eating cake. LOL!! My MAIN short term goal is that my blood sugar is around 100 after every meal. My long-term goal is to still be successfully maintaining my current diet until I reach a healthy weight. I have some numbers in mind but I try not to think about those. Again, welcome. We'd love to walk this journey with you.

ACK! I'm quite discouraged. Over the last few days, I gained four pounds. Overnight I lost 1 1/2 but our weigh in was last night. I didn't go... I'd lost another two pounds since my last weigh in (prior to this recent gain). I know it's probably all 'water' but what a bummer! I'd expected to lose 26 lbs in six months to reach my goal weight of 124. Instead, in five months, I've lost 13 lbs (prior to the above mentioned setback).

Last weekend was pretty good. I only had to endure lots of people eating cake at the after-service fellowship. Please pray for me all this next week. We are going on vacation into the land of fresh, in season peaches and boiled peanuts. Yes, that's right folks...South Carolina. My SIL lives in SC. I'll have to close my eyes as we drive past McCleod's farm and fruit stand. Their freestone peaches are the best I have ever eaten. July is "Peach Month" in SC. I've been waiting all year for fresh SC peaches only to now be unable to eat them. I have already decided to cheat however. I plan on having some boiled peanuts. They are a relatively safe "cheat" because they won't raise my blood sugar.

How's everyone doing? I am still 'stuck' so went back to keeping a food diary and calorie counting. Also, I'd stopped my aerobics, started again, sprained my ankle and started AGAIN this week. So far, no change, tho. I get discouraged easily because my son and hubby snack all the time!

I have had no change either. I don't know what to add or change because I feel like I've tried everything, (except for unhealth fads, drugs, or surgeries) to lose and can't find the key.

I'm doing well. Survived vacation into the land of peaches, boiled peanuts and a lot of family meals. I spent a lot of time watching everyone else eat. I watched them eat the best onion rings on the face of the earth and yummy pork chop sandwiches. I watched them eat corn on the cob so sweet I could smell the sugar. I watched them eat homemade biscuits and gravy practically every morning. I did eat boiled peanuts till they came out my ears. LOL!! It's a good thing I can't get those in NE Ohio. I still lost weight while on vacation. I've now lossed 30 lbs. It's time for me to retire another pair of pants that's gotten too big. I have two pair of pants that I can wear for work that I just recently bought. Hopefully I'll soon be able to get into some pants that have been waiting for me to shrink back into them.

Can I join you guys? Hope you don't mind if I haven't read all the 14 pages of good advice yet, but this looks like a thread I could benefit from. I quit smoking two months ago with the very valuable support of the "quit smoking support thread", so you crosswalkians really came through for me on that one! This means there is a restless fidgety energy surplus to put to better use then before. Age: 40 height: 180 cm weight: 98 kilos (215 pounds) = BMI 30 = too much for my comfort No particular health issues. Yet. But better safe then sorry Long term goal: Loose 20 - 25 kilos (44 - 55 pounds). Time is NOT of the essence. Sustainable new habits and persistence is. I just want to become more healthy. How to's and do's and dont's are therefore very welcome

Silverstring, Welcome to the thread. I apologize for not welcoming you sooner. I had my monthly checkup with the Doc yesterday. Here are my current stats: Starting weight: 308 Current weight: 268 Total loss: 40 lbs Starting A1C: 9.3 Current A1C: 5.8 (WOO HOO!!) Total Cholesterol down by 26 points LDL (bad cholesterol) down by 20 pts Triglycerides down by 24 pts One pair of the two new pairs of pants I just bought I have to retire. However, I've shrunk into 2 pair that have been hanging in my closet waiting for me. I've also shrunk into a few skirts as well. I had to go and buy a couple of new tops for work. I got them on a great sale...40% off the lowest sale price. I got $108 worth of clothing for under $30 (including tax). I've been actively eliminating clothing from my closet that I cannot or should not still wear.

Shucks! I gained back four pounds this summer while Jim has been home. He and Nick snack all day and all night. I joined in...... Bummer! Anyhow, he starts back to work on Monday and I'm going to force myself to start my aerobics again.

I haven't weighed myself in a month or two, was trying to go by the clothes fitting thing. I am going to start watching the sugars/carbs more closely and do something like South Beach. I tend to eat too many high carb foods like pasta.

My husband cooks breakfast for our youth and all of our workers each week. He was talking to a young woman (younger than our oldest child) and I walked up to them and discovered they were talking about my weight! I was horrified! Granted, the young woman weighs more than me. I just felt that was disrespectful on his part. So, I pouted all afternoon.

I haven't been around much lately... but wanted to share this! I have been losing again (finally!). I was up to 224 after gaining back some weight after a broken toe last year and a VERY stressful year. I am now down to 207! I have been basically eating a banana for breakfast and then two modest meals, as much fruit/veggies in between as I want... plus a treat- a brownie (homemade), popcorn, etc. Oh, and two glasses of calcium fortified OJ (allergic to dairy). I started making bulk meals again, because that always seems to help me- I don't have to think about what to eat, just grab a meal from the fridge. I have been on vacation from work (only 2 days left!), so wanted to get as many meals in the freezer as possible. I will have enough to cover the next two weeks at least. I have also been faithfully walking DAILY and try for an hour, but always get at least 30 min in. Even better than the numbers on the scale- my clothes are looser, I feel better/more energy, and I definitely have more endurance/strength! I can run up the stairs now without getting winded. I don't have to stop to rest while walking up some of the local steep, long hills I walk. I don't feel depreived or anything, either. I did have one day where I was hungry- not having cravings or anything, just rumbling stomach, so I baked a couple small potatoes and had them with olive oil and I was fine. Now... the challenge is going to be keeping this up once I am back to work on Tuesday! It is discouraging to me, though, that I am still 20 lbs heavier than I was... For the longest time, I had maintained around 180. So, even though I have been losing, I don't feel better, just less bad... if that mkes sense. Tara P

We are for you! Hopefully you husband wasn't meaning to hurt your feeling. Could it be this other woman was talking about her own weight before you heard him say something about your weight? We all love you and want to encourage you to stay the course.

HI BettymackII, she was. In fact, he offered her pancakes and she said she was only eating tiny amounts of fruit each day. (She just had a full hysterectomy due to early cancer so in medical menopause and gained a lot of weight in a few months.) I'd heard him telling her what I had tried and am now doing to lose weight and assumed he was being critical (He likes me thin) of me. I'm quite sensitive about my weight because I was always way too thin. I've always been able to eat like a horse and stay skinny. Think under 100 lbs at age 35 with three kids. It's only been since menopause that I've been plump and unable to lose to what I think is a good weight for my height (124lbs). I'm down to 142 lbs again. I had hit 137 lbs a few months ago for a few days, jumping right back to 139 lbs.

We who are overweight are very sensitive to what others say especially our husbands who can say painful words about our weight . I was once slender too. Now, we can have empathy for those who have struggled for years being over-weight. Remember: God love us! He loves the short, tall, slender, overweight, sinners, missionaries, and etc that He gave His only Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Thanks for sharing with us all!

Well... I am back to work two days and still doing okay. I ate my frozen meals and got in 3 walks equaling 60 minutes (yesterday), 20 minutes of walking so far today. I am down 2 more pounds, too! For some reason, I feel hungrier while I am at work than at home... I think because at home, I can get up and go outside and am pretty busy... but at work, I am at my desk for most of the day... In a bit I am going to go out for a walk to the library. Plus... there is always food ther if I want it at home. I have a 10 hour day here and I can only haul so much food in on the bus! I do keep a stash of V8 and packets of fruit in my drawer, which helps. Tara

same here because everyone eats at their desk so its easy to get hungry. Plus a lot of people eat to pass time at a desk job.

You know, I never really thought twice about eating at my desk. We have a kitchen, but it doesn't have a table... so there isn't much choice. But I am thinking it might be kinda like how they say you shouldn't read/watch tv/etc in bed- the association with bed should be for sleep (for those with problems with insomnia); and probably not good to create an association between my desk and food... During the nice weather, I could eat at the park. There is a wide window sill in my office, I could even scoot over there to eat... At least there are only two of us in my actual office, and my office mate doesn't flaunt her food... If I ate at the park, though, it would cut into my break time which I use to walk... If I eat at my desk, I can do it "on the clock." The other problem is I don't have a scheduled lunch hour- my activities vary from day to day so it is inconsistent. Tara P

I must confess, that I have a bad cough and have been slacking on my diet, but I have not given up...
