Me too!

We had kids club today...they did a talent show and I had to be one of the judges, then we took a group of them bowling. That was fun! Then, band practice after that. I need the weekend to be over!

Man, the second one with the tap dancing really brings back memories. My mom put me in dancing when I was young. I loved it AND the costumes.
Ahhh, to be young and limber again. I would even just take limber at this point. [8D]

I'd settle for slightly bendable. [8D]

LOL Bill! Pretty much. There was singing, sing language to music, puppets, lip-syncing. Pretty cute!

Sharon, I took dance too...a tap and jazz combo class. I loved it. I started out with gymnastics, but liked the dance better...closer to singing!

Donna, your story about Dumb Dog is cute. My friend Susan has a dog named Zacchaeus. She calls him Zacchy for short. He is mostly blind, and he really doesn't like anyone but Susan. I'm thrilled to pieces though because when I go over there, once he settles down after about 20 minutes, he will come to me and let me pet him. He's also never bit me. Zacchy likes me, and it's even funnier because he won't have hardly anything to do with Susan's husband Buddy. Buddy will feed Zacchy, but that is the only time Zacchy will go to Buddy. After everyone is done eating, Buddy puts Zacchy on his lap and he gets fed off of a plate at the table with some scraps. I think it's adorable.

Zacchy is also unique because he has a security blanket. He has to have his blanket. It's old and has holes in it, but he knows which one it is. He sits there and lays with it and sucks on it. It's really amazing and cute.

I really don't care for slobbery, stinky dogs.
They're great with a spicy brown sauce and lots of garlic. Gotta marinate a couple of days, though.

Bill! That's so cruel!

Zacchy sounds so cute!

Hey Guys!

Has it really been a week since I checked in here?? Oy.

Camp is a week and a half away and we're crazy busy with last minute planning and work. Our final training is Saturday, and we've had meetings, appointments, make up sessions, etc seems like nearly every day. But, we have our kiddos all lined up and we're so anxious! We have more new kids than returners this year, so lots of unknowns coming in.

We'd appreciate prayers...we have a couple of kids coming that have been newly removed from their homes...very severe abuse. They are in a very hard time transitionally, and we'll likely see that acted out at camp.

We were practicing camp songs the other day with the band, and one of the songs we sing with them(This is How We Overcome) has a verse in it that says

"Your light broke through my night
Restored exceeding joy
Your grace fell like the rain
And made this desert live

That verse has been the cry of my heart for these kids these past weeks as we've prepared for camp. That God shatters their darkness with His light and love and restores their child-like joy... that He'll truly be the rain that softens the dry dessert land they live in. That he will cause new life, HIS life to spring up from deep within them. I know he has big plans for these little lives, and I pray that God will use us to point them to Him, to His love, to His healing.

((((Karlie)))) I came specifically tonight to get the camp date and to see what you were having to say about it.
Is Kristen going again this year?

I certainly will be sending prayers for all the kids and for all the team that goes to bring a healing, fun week to the kids.

uncabeeil -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (6/10/2009 9:15:26 AM)

And don't forget to breathe once in a while.

Yep...she's hooked. For a young lady who "isn't really into kids", those campers have her totally wrapped [:D]

'Thank you! I can't tell you how many times during the week that it brings comfort to know that friends and family and our church are back home praying for us. Knowing we are lifted in prayer makes all the difference to us in those really hard situations that always come along.

Hmmm...I'm not sure if that's on the schedule. I'll see if I can pencil that in!

Thanks :)

Another crazy day...the last Kids' Club of the season this morning, and camp training this afternoon/evening. I've been running around like a lunatic(not a word!) trying to get camp errands, final plans, etc all done! Our quilt ladies came through again and the church is displaying the most gorgeous quilts ever! I can't wait for the kids to get them. Birthday boxes are on the way and all the camper paraphernalia(and staff shirts) came in today. We're getting there!

Hope everyone is having a blessed weekend [:)]

awed -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (6/14/2009 10:28:12 PM)

Mine was a blessed weekend. [:D]

I wish I could see those quilts. Glad there seems to be no glitches in the stuff getting there on time and correctly like the shirts and Birthday boxes. What color are the shirts this year?

karlie -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (6/15/2009 12:42:41 AM)

I am very glad you had a blessed weekend [:)]

quote:

The adult polo shirts are a medium blue. Something like this. They are nice...for once a color that pretty much flatters everyone. The kids shirts are a lime green(the one they get at registration) and the other they get in their birthday bag is white, both with a cool picture on it and this year's scripture.

We are still waiting on birthday boxes, but they are being done locally this year, so at least we don't have to worry about having them shipped. I ordered their carry cases for their CD players and payed nearly $50 to have the order rush shipped. Oy. One church donated money to get them batteries and carry cases, but asked us to purchase them. But, since everyone is going to ipods, there aren't a whole lot of places carrying accessories for CD players anymore. I looked high and low, and even had to search for quite awhile online for a place that still stocked them. Other than that, everything got here yesterday, so we're good to go!

Oh, this is way cool! A local store went out of business and donated their clothing racks for our dress-up center. So, instead of the clothes being hung up on a clothes line, they will be on real clothing racks, most of them the nice round ones. We also got new play kitchen equipment, a make up and hair dressing center, and new baby dolls and baby bath/care items. I just love how God blesses this ministry. This year, we were afraid would be the hardest ever to make budget, and we have gone way beyond budget this year, allowing us to upgrade several things that needed to be replaced. I can't wait to see the girl's faces light up when they see the new dress up/playhouse area! [:)]

Hi Lisa!!!!!

I miss seeing you too. How have you been?

mutinywxgirl -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (6/15/2009 12:56:24 AM)

Surviving.....my brother is stable - still under hospice care, but stable. I'm not doing anything other than working and my disaster stuff and being at home.

karlie -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (6/15/2009 12:58:53 AM)

You have a lot to deal with at home, so your "other than" is a probably more than enough!

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Karlie's Kompound for Komrades (6/17/2009 12:56:36 PM)

Karlie, just a few more days now till camp!

I've got the duration marked on my calendar . . . in purple; to remind me to pray.

Are y'all ready?

Awww, thanks!! And I bought purple flip flops for the pool. I'm not sure what that has to do with praying, but the purple made me think of them! [8D]

Seriously, thank you for the prayers. It's impossible to tell you what it means to know that our camp is being covered in prayer. Sometimes things happen so fast and knowing it's already being prayed for means a lot. It is just a comfort to face each new day knowing God has already been invited into that camp, and our day.

Are y'all ready?

Uhm, no! lol! Just so many last minute details to take care of, and soooooo much to get together and load up. We're organizing birthday bags and memory bags on Friday, and loading up the u-haul on Saturday morning. It's beyond insane the load of stuff we take for one week...props, activity and craft stuff, play equipment, music equipment, extra camper clothing and bedding, medical supplies...etc, etc, etc! But, we're getting there, and are very excited to see our kids and meet the new ones!
