I've bitten my nails since a child. I've tried many times to stop, and have not been sucessful for long. Right now, our son is getting married next week and I'm doing my best to have a little bit of a nail. My biggest problem is I love gardening, etc. and tend to "play in the dirt" a lot (I have small hands and most garden gloves are way too big), so I don't like the dirt under my nails....they wind up being bitten short to prevent that.

Even when mine are short, they get dirt ... and my hands are too small for most of the gloves too. So I started getting Nitrile gloves at the hardware store (I forget the name of it - but it is a chain, stinks of cheap rubber, but has cheap tools and such galore). They're great for cleaning and working on the car too!

Any one working in the medical field is not alowed to were artifical nails. It is impossible to kieep the bateria our from underthem and when they grow out and there are edges. Babies in NICU and people with little or no ammuine system have died from nurses caring bacteria and infected people,. I couldn't wear them when I was working as a nurse but now that I/m not working I wear them. It isn/t just nurses that can't were them. Most places all hospital personal and nurshing home employees cannot were them. Thats my little controbution to the world of converstion,. Nancy
