Oh I absolutely agree!
Regardless whether it is stranger or spouse, rape is wrong and should be punished.
My stance remains though that I do not believe that a committed to Christ, truly saved man who is just as committed to his wife and his marriage can commit rape.

I think that we may have to agree to disagree on this one.

Really? Even if both parties agree to this arrangement before the marriage? That saddens me.
It is a direct violation of 1 cor 7. Paul says to deny sex to your marriage partner is defrauding them (the word is VERY STRONG in the greek) and that it is only allowed by mutual agreement for a short time. Paul was mentored by Gameliel, the grandson of Rabbi Hillel, who discussed this also with Rabbi Shammai. Shammai said it was allowable for no more than 1 week, Hillel said no more than 2 weeks.

Why does this sadden you?

My bf and I are both asexual, which means we won't want to have sex with each other even if we do get married. We are very much emotionally attracted to each other, though. So it would be sad to know that my lifestyle of not having sex is just as sinful as fornication. But anyways, that isn't the topic of this thread. I might start a new one later.

What I meant by saying it's not on the same level as stranger rape was this;

I would not be AS traumatized as I would if it was a stranger in a dark alley.

These types of rapes, you don't know if they are going to kill you afterwards, or leave you with STD'S.

I wasn't saying that being raped by your husband wouldn't be hurtful and upsetting because it IS!

If my hubby raped me, i'd feel betrayed and disrespected, not traumatized or in fear for my life. That's just MOP.

I'll condense it. ALL RAPE IS WRONG!!

Huh, I never knew this thread had all these replies...

I just thought of something that made me come looking for this thread. I encountered someone who doesn't believe in spousal rape (a Christian man), and knowing there are so many new people here now, I thought there may be other views about it that haven't been heard from newer people...and older ones as well. I just got curious and wondered what ever happened to my thread. :)

My husband's not even a Christian and he wouldn't think of such a thing. However hypothetically, if he did it once, I wouldn't press charges or go have a rape kit form performed. I wouldn't be as traumatized if it was a stranger, so no I wouldn't view it in the 'classical' sense. I would feel more hurt and betrayed than anything else. Having said that, if he made a habit of it, I'd leave him!

If your husband was to rape you once, he's likely to do it again. It's a well known fact in the Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement community that there is NO rehabilitation for sex offenders.

Your post saddens me becuase (at least from my pov) it says you would be willing to put up with that type of behaviour from a man who supposedly "loves" you. If you put up with it, even once, then that gives him the message that its OK (some sex offenders don't even see anything wrong with what they do; they don't view it as hurting someone--again not all offenders but some).

And if he does it once, he's likely to do it again and again. Most rapists don't have just one victim. It's worth saying again--there is no rehabilitation for sex offenders.

Anyone who thinks spousal rape isn't as bad as being raped by a stranger would quickly change thier minds if it actually happened to them, IMO. There are some people in this thread who know someone that went through this. Unless I'm mistaken, they aren't the ones saying it's not as traumatic as rape by a stranger......perhaps because they've witnessed the trauma firsthand.

Rape is rape and should be punished. All rape is extremely traumatic. It may be wounding in a different way, but no less traumatic.

From what I've heard there is little success in rehabilitating sex offenders. Regardless of what statistics say I'd prefer not taking the chance of repetition of such a crime. If my husband raped me I'd file charges and never speak to the man again. I wouldn't even give it a second thought (leaving him). Our marriage would be over and hopefully he'd be spending a looooong time in jail.
