(((Julie))) Luckily dulcolax worked for me, though I had to take it for several weeks. Hope the suppositories work for you soon.

If ya'll think about it, could you pray for a FULL recovery for me? It's going on eight weeks on wednesday. I really need/want a full recovery.

I will certainly pray, dear, but please be patient with your body. I know you long for a return to certain activities, but giving birth is one of the most traumatizing things a woman's body can go through, no matter how much the naturalists like to talk about how we are designed for it. Realistically it can take up to a year or two to fully recover from giving birth.

I'm almost 8 months post-pardum, and my body is still not recovered. Everybody is different though, I had a hard time after he was born, and my sister, she was up and around the day she had her baby, and hasn't stopped since! My neighbour had her baby a week after me, and she was out walking long before I ever could...I felt like I had no support and couldn't even stand for long periods of time. It's getting better now though. Slow...but coming. Praying for ya Janine. It will get better, even if it's slow going.

Janine, I agree with Ruth and Yolanda. Its only been 8 weeks so give your body a chance to recover and don't rush because you are missing certain activities. Every woman is different after she has a baby and everyone's body heals differently. The morning after I had Hunter I could not wait to get up, walk around, take another shower, and put make up on. I healed quickly and my recovery was great, but emotionally I was drained and not prepared or ready for certain activities even after the ok from the doctor. My sister on the other hand took 3-4 months to recovery completely, she was still having to stay on the couch majority of the time even when my nephew was 2-3 weeks old. But, she was ready emotionally for certain activities early on. But, we both had to give ourselves a break, rest, and be patient with all the changes. Once you get past this point you will have plenty of opportunity to be with hubby and feel back to your normal self.

Alright, I can't keep track of what was discussed where so I have a question and I'll put it here since to me it's related to my post-pardum recovery. Some folks were discussing an iron suppliment alternative to the ferrous sulfate (is that even the right name?) stuff, what was the name of it? I was thinking about looking into it for myself and then two people just today mentioned to me that they should be taking iron and aren't so I thought I'd ask.

Julie, I agree with Sarah that you should check first whether you actually need it. But JFYI, the iron preparation I used to take was Ferrous Gluconate (Ferrous Sulphate made me sick). *Especially* don't even consider taking it till your bowel movements are back to normal, as iron supplements have a tendency to constipate.

Julie, THIS is the one I take. On the box and bottle it says somewhere "Non constipating" and it really isn't. I love it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs an Iron supplement. I would however also say that it's best taken in/with Orange Juice. It has a citrus background to it but the OJ helps mask the icky flavor that Iron tends to have. I love the stuff. I can totally tell when I haven't taken it. Like today, out of OJ and I refuse to mix it with anything else. Cranberry was nasty, Apple nasty.. only OJ tastes good.

Brandy, thank you, that is the suppliment that was being discussed the other day. Sarah and Manda, thanks for your concern and advice. Right now I want to look at the info on it and hope to have it on hand next time I see my doctor. My primary OB told me she was going to prescribe iron when I left the hospital (my HCT was 24 after all the bleeding that I did) but her partner discharged me and he said he doesn't "believe" in extra iron but told me just to take my prenatals, which I'm doing. A friend of mine was an OB nurse and she said she routinely saw transfusions done for HCTs as low as 27 and I was lower. I am still so weak. I know it's only been 8 days but I do wonder if I would have a little more strength back at this point if I had either been given blood or had been prescribed iron - or something else. I see tiny differences in how much I can do at a time. The first day I came home walking across the living room was too much, then I could do that but walking up the stairs set my heart a pounding and made me woozy, now most days I can do that OK (going slowly and carrying nothing) but even taking a short shower is barely doable. My DH is going to have to back to work at the office (he is working at home right now), if I don't get stronger soon, no matter about all the other ways I still need to heal, I don't know how I'll handle 3 kids 4 and under. DH will come home to find me passed out somewhere.

Julie when are you scheduled to see Dr next? That sounds a bit scary to be feeling that way 8 days out and knowing your HCT was that low. Sure sounds like anemia to me. There just isn't enough Iron in my prenatals to make the difference for me. I was seeing stars daily, having trouble staying awake and all sorts of low energy issues before starting the Floradix. It has such a good blend of other stuff to go with the Iron and I can seriously feel a great deal of difference.

I don't see her for a while so, yeah, I should give her a call. She may not know that the other doc didn't give me iron and I don't know if he even looked at my chart enough to see how low my HCT was. Of course, I'm not going to start any sort of iron sup until after my BMs are a little more back to normal. According to safefetus.com ferrous gluconate hasn't had studies done to show safety and according to drugs.com it is contraindicated during breastfeeding. Do you any sites I can look at besides the manufacturers? I'd like to read more about it. Thank so much!

Julie, THIS is what I took when I was pregnant. It is the only Iron Supplement that does not make me constipated, Target and Sam's club both sell generic versions that work just as well. Oh, and I know it's not contraindicated for breastfeeding, my OB was pretty opinionated about me taking something since I hemorrhaged so badly.

I posted about the liver before I read this. Julie, it's imperative IMO that you see your doctor right away and get checked out. It could be your iron levels, it could even be something else (eg thyroid).

Julie, After I had my older dd, I had a pretty serious hemorrhage. I was pretty close to transfusion levels -- if they hadn't intervened, I would have had to have one. I didn't, but they did put me on iron supplements as well as my regular prenatal vitamins--I think it was a slow releasing iron (it has been a long time). It was still pretty slow going for my recovery, though. I didn't have to have repeat blood draws after they were sure that I was stable. Red meat is the best source for iron especially when it is paired with vitamin C. Calcium blocks the absorption of iron, so that needs to be spaced out.

I have to be honest. I don't change my babies at night. Not even as newborns. Unless they are major poopy, or the diaper has leaked. I just don't. I find it to be to disturbing. I'd much rather keep things simple and quiet and let them nurse back to sleep. I use cloth too, I put an extra insert in my boys' diapers and don't have a problem. Sandy

How do you change your baby at night? We're planning to have the baby sleep in a co-sleeper bassinet, and I'm hoping to not have to get out of bed at night to nurse ... but with newborns, you're changing them every 2 hours, right? I only changed mine if they were dirty, and for some reason, they maybe only had one a night as newborns. So I'd just change them in the bassinet beside the bed.

Yup, we only changed poopy diapers at night, otherwise she woke up more then I wanted.
