She did get one blood patch and it looks like she is going in for another today. They (my mom and her) are taking the baby for a weight check since he hadn't started gaining yet and then heading in to the hospital for another patch. I just feel horrible, she called me today sobbing that she was a horrible mother b/c she can't even sit up to burp him- I told her as long as he is eating, sleeping, and pooping (and he is) then she is doing her job- changing diapers, burping and everything else can wait. Fortunately she is only alone with him for 2-3 hours when her hubby leaves for work and before my mom can get there (I hate being four states away, I hate being four states away!!!)

Ladies, has anyone had a spinal headache last for a week? Anyone had one and found relief? My poor sister had her baby last week and they used Pit and once she was having double and triple peak contractions, she had to get some relief, so she opted to go for an epi (which she did not originally want). They messed up inserting it and punctured her (not sure of technical term) and she leaked fluid. They offered to do a blood patch which she refused since the already messed up once. After she was home, she went back in and had the blood patch and it helped, but she is still in a LOT of pain. she is okay if she is laying down but when she stands up the pain returns- anyone have any ideas? I feel so bad for her!

Yes! I've only had one epidural, and that exact same thing happened to me. I had heard headache being mentioned as a risk, but I had no idea what kind of a headache they were talking about it. I had to lay flat on my back for a week. It was a horrible experience. I'm used to being up and about the next day, not stuck in bed all week. Ugh. I didn't find relief until it went away on it's own.

My sister is finally feeling better- thank goodness! They didn't find out until too late, but another anesthesiologist told her that she should have been keeping her feet in the air as much as possible. The pain was from the brain trying to make the "missing" fluid as fast as possible and having legs elevated would help the fluid go/stay where it needed to and make the pain go faster...

Indeed! 10 weeks is nothing compared to 6 months!

But congratulations anyway...and have fun!

Hi ladies. I'm having some problems that I'd love to talk to someone about, but I don't want to post it publicly because anyone can read them.

I remember someone told me they struggled with uncomfortability with intimacy and such for a while after they were 'healed'. Can that person (or persons) pm me?

I have a few "is this normal" questions.

Quick question...didnt know where to post this. If I think I have a UTI do I call my GP or my OB? I'm 8 weeks post partum. I'm pretty sure its a UTI...I'm passing blood in my urine and it hurts when I urinate. (Sorry for the TMI).

I would probably call your GP, my OB wouldn't deal with that sort of thing after I had Gabby... Although, you could try calling her, it might be faster then your GP.

Your GP, and just be sure to tell her you are nursing so she'll prescibe something that's OK for that. UUGGHH, I hate bladder infections! I hope you feel better soon, are you having to go to work with that? I couldn't imagine working and having to go potty every 5 minutes. Bummer.

it's actually more common then you think to get one within two or three months after birth....definitely call and get some meds.

Did you call yet? Hopefully your GP will just prescribe something over the phone. You need meds today - because they only get worse!

Erin- no matter who prescribes drugs to you *ask if the drug they are prescribing is safe for nursing* ask if it interacts with anything Isaac is taking- ****ask the pharmacist the same questions when you pick it up**** Lots of docs make mistakes, check and recheck, especially with Isaac still being so little and fragile. Check and recheck *always* while nursing- my sister's doc prescribed her a drug for treating mastitis that was toxic for the baby

I'm waiting on the docs office to open up. I am miserable. Fever and chills last night, and passing blood. Ugh...why does this have to happen. Here I was getting ready to ask Isaac's doc about exclusively breastfeeding to get him home. There ARE safe drugs aren't there?

Erin, there are TONNES of safe ABX - you can check kellymom.com for them if you want, and make a list before you go (that's what I did when I went for ABX for mastitis). Generally speaking, your OB would discharge you at 6 weeks, so it would be a call to the GP.

Yup, lots of safe drugs for nursing. If they give them to babies, then obviously they are safe for nursing You are going to want to get some good probiotics and take them though, so you don't get thrush.

Okay...meds are called in...well the second set. The first time what he gave me wasnt safe for breastfeeding (his nurse didnt tell him I was BF). Thanks for reminding me to check and double check.

Jen had good tips, I ALWAYS remind my doctor and the pharmacist that I am breastfeeding when I need antibiotics.

I think I was taking a full dose three times a day ... I would try to stagger them from the antibiotics.

Whats a full dose? The bottle of acidophilous said to take "one tablet daily." I'm taking antibiotics 3xs a day.

If it's one tablet daily, that's the full dose. I'd then take one caplet 3x daily, staggering it with the ABX:

0800 - ABX
1130 - probiotics
1400 - ABX
1800 - probiotics
2000 - ABX
2200 - probiotics

or whatever. Eat yogurt, too!
