ORIGINAL: Tea-Tea Ryanne, I use PC diapers (only when away from the house...I use cloth at home) but not formula. I guess when it comes to formula, I want to be certain I'm giving her the best. Is PC "really" the same as Enfamil? We are also just over the level to receive WIC. Yup, it's actually more similar to Similac, IMO. All formula's are held to the same standards, so really your just paying for the name brand.

ORIGINAL: Room2Grow Artemis- just so you know (and if you are interested) if you are in the US, almost all states have laws REQUIRING companies to provide a private, clean place to pump and to allow you to do so... You would probably have to ask, and maybe even push a little, but if it is important to you, the law is on your side. It is smart of you to keep track of all the info though so you are prepared later! I know, and I have copies of the info, but I'm going to be a traveling teacher this year... two different schools, several different classrooms, etc. I'll be driving from one school to the other in the middle of the day and I'm not sure if I can manage to pump and refrigerate the milk with that kind of schedule. I'm just preparing myself for that being a possibility. School doesn't start for another 2 weeks, so I don't know exactly how it will work, but on paper, it doesn't look very promising We'll see when the time comes.

I will be weaning Nath soon, I don't know how it's going to work at night because that seems to be the only thing he wants. I tried last night (2 hours after another feed) to get him to sleep without one and he just wouldn't.go.to.sleep. ugh! This is going to be hard!

ORIGINAL: artemis Thanks, Manda. After going to a breastfeeding seminar this weekend hosted by LLL, I was starting to doubt that For the record, I'm just lurking in the breastfeeding thread and this one for the time being because I don't know what our situation will be when the baby comes in ~December. I do know that if I still have to work, my schedule will make it almost impossible to pump consitently (or at all) and there's a good chance we will have to rely at least partly on formula. My preference would be to just not have to work I don't always get my way, though artemis Hey! Glad to have you lurking!! My circumstances were different, but my two had half their feeds as breastmilk, half as formula right from day 1. I tried to fully breastfeed my ds from 2 weeks old, when he came out of NICU, but it didn't work and I went back to half breastmilk half formula. He was fully formula fed by 3 months old. My dd was fully formula fed by 6 weeks old. Both my children thrived and were rarely unwell. (They're 19 and 15 now!) I posted what I did today because of something someone innocently said in another folder. It kept playing on my mind and I felt I should post a kind of mini-rant here. I am glad it has comforted/encouraged someone!

(((( Steph ))))) quote:
ORIGINAL: waiting2be_called I had one lady tell me I was full of garbage when I told her why I had to give my baby a bottle of formula. I hate judgement. Not even pumping would work for me. I just couldn't do it. But I have been doing a lot better with it emotionally. I don't really have that left-out-of-the-club feeling anymore. I used to get really paranoid, when I went to buy the tins of baby milk, thinking that there'd be someone looking at me and thinking "SHE'S not breastfeeding her baby". No-one ever did but I did get a large number of women asking me "Are you feeding him yourself?" - which made me want to say "No actually, I go out into the street and let any old person feed him". If I've said that before in this thread, sorry! I do tend to have a habit of forgetting what I've said and repeating myself, lol (maternal amnesia). quote:
Currently Zaphyn is on Nestle Good Start (with added omega 3 & 6). She has 3-5 ounces approximately every 4 hours. She lasts a little longer at night now, which is very nice. She is now 10lbs 3 ounces at 7 weeks, so she's right at the 50th percentile. Steph, SO HAPPY that Zaphyn is doing so well. You're doing a great job, and don't let anyone else make you feel any differently. My second child (dd) was fully formula fed by 6 weeks. By 10 weeks she was sleeping through the night, having just 5 bottles per day (approx 5am, 9am, midday, 3pm and 6pm). I know bottle-fed babies don't all do that, but you never know, Zaphyn just might!!

David now eats 40-48 ounces a day. There is no way I can pump that much!! I pump around 20 ounces on a good day and the rest he gets is formula. I am also using the Nestle Good Start. He is in the 95% and healthy so I know I'm doing something right. LOL I feel embarrassed when I buy formula or mix up a bottle of formula in public. When I give him a bottle of breast milk in public and I get a funny look I just say "I don't nurse in public." Which is true, but I don't nurse in private either. I HATE the looks I get when I give David a bottle. People look at me like I'm giving him soda or poison or something. Sometimes it makes me want to cry. I don't even want to be a part of any mommy groups because it seems like I am the only one who uses formula. I also hate that people always ask why I am giving formula. Like I need to justify my decision. My baby is hungry, he needs to eat, so I give him formula. End of story.

I feel embarrassed when I buy formula or mix up a bottle of formula in public. Emily...why do you think you feel embarrassed? No one....NO ONE can make you feel anything that you don't allow yourself to feel. quote:
I HATE the looks I get when I give David a bottle. People look at me like I'm giving him soda or poison or something. what kind of looks are you talking about? are people really looking at you with that much disdain, or could it be your perception of their glance in your direction? quote:
I don't even want to be a part of any mommy groups because it seems like I am the only one who uses formula. I also hate that people always ask why I am giving formula. Like I need to justify my decision. you don't need to justify your decision....and there are ways to convey that to others without words. From reading your posts I really think the person you are upset with is yourself, not others. I think you are perceiving others as being negative when they are not. You ARE a good...no, make that GREAT mother to David. You ARE providing everything your child needs, which right now is breast milk AND formula. You will never make everyone happy with regard to parenting, but that shouldn't be your goal. Your goal should be to do for your child what God lays on your's and hubby's hearts to do for him right now. Those convictions may change later with other kids, or even as David gets bigger. We all grow in maturity (hopefully) as our kids get bigger. Question.....answer if you like, but mostly I am asking for you to think about..... why are you so hard on yourself? what was it with breastfeeding that made you set this standard you seem to have for yourself? I understand you wanted to BF...you had the heart to do it, but couldn't keep up with it. You did better then I would have done given all the problems you faced...and you are still going at it!!!! That is saying something right there about your character!!! Who cares what some stranger in the grocery store isle thinks. Like Manda said, a lot of times we perceive judgment where there is none because the judgment in in ourselves. When you can't reach the goal you set then it's time to reevaluate if it is an achievable goal...reset your standard in your mind and start pressing towards a new goal. I think that's what you need to do now....you have mourned your mind's ideal of bfing and how perfect you couldn't be with it, now it's time to put that behind you and get on with how things ARE. I am no greater mother because I am successful in bfing....that is just one area I have had success in, though I still haven't been able to reach my own goal of 2 years with any of my kids...they quit earlier then I always wanted. It's a goal, and to me it is a little sad when it's not reached, but after a few tears it's time to get on with other things. I think it's that time now for you...you did what you could, you succeeded in ways unimaginable before, so put that behind you and get on to bigger and better things. quote:
Sometimes it makes me want to cry. I don't even want to be a part of any mommy groups because it seems like I am the only one who uses formula. logical thinking here....why would the store sell it and stock so much of it if you were the only one that used it.....you are not. (shhhh....I will tell you a secret....even I have used formula for most of my kids at some point.....Jack is the only one that never took anything but breast milk)

Trust me, you are not the only formula user. Lot's of moms use formula. We need our own club too!

We need our own club too! lol... seriously though, if our siggy lines upset someone just let us know...we will delete them...they were only a joke for Erin's benefit. I know that they were meant to encourage Erin and that is why I haven't said anything. However, I do think they lend a hand to the divisive nature of the women's forums. It may just be me, though.
