Huge Backlash Against Obama Elitist Comments
Rick Moran
If you haven't heard yet, Barack Obama made some comments before some mega rich donors last Sunday in San Francisco that has the internet in an uproar and many saying that his candidacy may be in trouble.

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Many may have wondered if Obama held the same beliefs as his elitist wife who has made a career of telling ordinary Americans they are "mean" or stupid. We needn't wonder any longer. And even liberals are saying they find nothing unusual in what Obama said:....

Matthews Accuses Clintons of 'Blaming the Ref'

By Justin McCarthy | April 11, 2008 - 14:27 ET

NBC News has grown so pro-Obama that their coverage of the 2008 election has become rabidly anti-Clinton. Matt Lauer began his interview with Chris Matthews by highlighting Bill Clinton’s revival of the Hillary Clinton sniper controversy and the former president’s inaccurate defense of his wife’s inaccurate statement. Matthews even brought up Clinton’s notorious line "it depends on what your definition of ‘is’ is."

Moving on to the Clinton camp’s complaints about media coverage, Matthews drew a sports analogy that "when your losing you blame the ref. When you’re winning you don’t." Matthews, who claimed to have a "thrill running up [his] leg" when he hears Obama speak, is hardly a referee in this game.

At the end, Matthews did offer kind words to John McCain opining he has a good reputation and has "been fighting for this country all these years."

Top hurricane scientist cools to global warming
New study suggests storm frequency, intensity may not substantially rise during next 2 centuries
Posted: April 12, 2008

One of the most vocal scientists in the field of hurricane prediction has backed away from his earlier certainty of a link between global warming and stronger hurricanes after developing a new forecasting technique that suggests a moderate increase – or even decline – in storm activity over the next 200 years.

Kerry Emanuel, a climate scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his co-authors published their findings in the March issue of Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society.

"The results surprised me," Emanuel told the Houston Chronicle.

Gore Admits Financial 'Stake' In Advancing Global Warming Hysteria

By Noel Sheppard | April 11, 2008 - 09:38 ET

For years, NewsBusters has reported on Al Gore's financial interests in advancing global warming hysteria around the world.

On March 1, while speaking at the TED Conference in Monterey, California, the Nobel Laureate admitted to having "a stake" in a number of green "investments" that he recommended attendees put money in rather than "sub-prime carbon assets" like "tar sands" and "shale oil."

This occurred as pictures of such products appeared on the screen with names of the companies involved (video available here, relevant section begins at minute 15:00, h/t NBer Sick-and-Tired): ....

In Searching for New Job, Gonzales Sees No Takers

By NEIL A. LEWIS
Published: April 13, 2008

WASHINGTON — Alberto R. Gonzales, like many others recently unemployed, has discovered how difficult it can be to find a new job. Mr. Gonzales, the former attorney general, who was forced to resign last year, has been unable to interest law firms in adding his name to their roster, Washington lawyers and his associates said in recent interviews.

He has, through friends, put out inquiries, they said, and has not found any takers. What makes Mr. Gonzales’s case extraordinary is that former attorneys general, the government’s chief lawyer, are typically highly sought.

A longtime loyalist to George W. Bush dating to their years together in Texas, Mr. Gonzales was once widely viewed as a strong candidate to be the first Hispanic-American nominated one day to the Supreme Court. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he carried an impressive personal story as the child of poor Mexican immigrants.

Specter Presses Criminal Alien Deportation Bill
by Mickey McCarter
Friday, 11 April 2008

Pa. senator’s bill to put pressure on countries to repatriate alien nationals deported by US.

A proposal now introduced in the US House of Representatives would compel foreign nations to take back foreign nationals deported from the United States or face a mandatory denial of US visas to citizens of those countries as well as reductions or elimination of US foreign aid to those countries, Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), who first introduced the bill in the Senate, announced Thursday.

Reps. Mike Castle (R-Del.) and Charlie Dent (R-Pa.), revealed the House companion bill to Specter's Accountability in Immigration Repatriation Act, introduced March 5.

The number of illegal immigrants in the United States have increased about 3 million to around 11.6 million people since 2000, Castle noted. US authorities have detained thousands of illegal aliens with criminal records, but they have been forded to release more than 18,000 because their home nations refuse to accept their return.

Texas School Suspends Student for Answering Call in Class From Dad in Iraq

A Texas sergeant and his son recently found themselves separated not only by an eight-hour time difference, several bodies of water, hundreds of miles and a war, but by a high school official who suspended the boy for answering his dad's call during class.

Cove High School in Texas, where half the students have at least one parent deployed, justified the punishment against Brandon Hill by saying he had violated the no-cell-phone policy when he took the call from his father, who is serving in Iraq.

"I have been going through a lot of stress lately and my dad’s like my best friend, so I go to him for everything," the sophomore told FOX News on Saturday.

Jewish Congressman Blasts Jimmy Carter's Fraternizing with Hamas Terrorist
April 12, 2008 09:54 PM EST

by Jim Kouri, CPP -- Chief Deputy Republican Whip Eric Cantor for the US House of Representatives fiercely condemned former President Jimmy Carter's plans to meet with Khaled Mashal, leader of the terrorist group Hamas, in Damascus, Syria on April 18th, 2008. Rep. Cantor, who is Jewish, released an official statement to the media on Saturday.

Khaled Mashal is a prime suspect in numerous Palestinian suicide bomb attacks. His attacks resulted in the deaths of numerous Israeli civilians, as well as men, women and children left maimed and crippled.

Mashal is on record as advocating the total annihilation of the Jewish State and the creation of a Palestinian country in its place.

Senator helped fund organization that rejects 'racist' Israel's existence
Posted: February 24, 2008

JERUSALEM – The board of a nonprofit organization on which Sen. Barack Obama served as a paid director alongside a confessed domestic terrorist granted funding to a controversial Arab group that mourns the establishment of Israel as a "catastrophe" and supports intense immigration reform, including providing drivers licenses and education to illegal aliens.

The co-founder of the Arab group in question, Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi, also has held a fundraiser for Obama. Khalidi is a harsh critic of Israel, has made statements supportive of Palestinian terror and reportedly has worked on behalf of the Palestine Liberation Organization while it was involved in anti-Western terrorism and was labeled by the State Department as a terror group.

In 2001, the Woods Fund, a Chicago-based nonprofit that describes itself as a group helping the disadvantaged, provided a $40,000 grant to the Arab American Action Network, or AAAN, for which Khalidi's wife, Mona, serves as president. The Fund provided a second grant to the AAAN for $35,000 in 2002.

PHOENIX, Ariz. (BP)--Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain isn't a Southern Baptist, but he's closer to being one than you might think.

The U.S. senator from Arizona was raised Episcopalian but has been attending North Phoenix Baptist Church for approximately the past 15 years when in Arizona. He's not a member, although his wife is.

Despite questions about McCain's faith -- a Politico.com story recently had a headline referencing how the senator "shies away from religion talk" -- McCain's pastor says he's confident McCain is an authentic Christian.

Obama's Choice of Spiritual Leaders IS Critically Important to America
By John W. Lillpop
In his bid for the United States presidency, Barack Obama is asking the American people to entrust him with the present and future of our great nation. The issue is that simple and of that gravity.

America cannot, must not, yield to the urge to elect an African-American or a woman candidate solely on the basis of gender or race . Sentimentality and "feel good" emotions have no place in the hostile and dangerous world in which we find ourselves.

Which is precisely why Barack Obama's patronage of Reverend Jeremiah Wright is so alarming. That patronage would be wrong for any American; it is infinitely more wrong for one who would take on the awesome responsibility of defending 300 million Americans as the nation's CEO and commander-in-chief.

Why Does Obama Hate Marriage?
By Kevin McCullough
Sunday, April 13, 2008

Barack Obama despises the institution of marriage. This assumption can be made on sound reasoning and easy logic. Anytime someone works to oppose something - it is assumed.

But what causes such disdain for the union that gave he and Michelle their life together, and the precious gift of their two baby girls?

This week Barack Obama demonstrated his most recent opposition, some would even classify as hatred, of an institution that he benefits mightily from. His three most prominent family policy positions all speak to this. Each of them focused at punishing the definition of how a family is even constructed. Never before has the national political stage entertained such hostility towards a family's survival yet hardly a word is spoken of it.

Poll: Catholics Embrace Faith, Not Mass

Sunday, April 13, 2008 2:29 AM

NEW YORK -- American Catholics said in a new survey they were pleased with the leadership of Pope Benedict XVI, ahead of his first visit to the U.S. since he was elected. The study also found intense interest in faith among some young people.

Yet, few parishioners overall said they go to confession, and most believed they could be good Roman Catholics without going to Mass.

The poll, released Sunday, was commissioned by the nation's bishops and conducted in February by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown University.

Target: Bin Laden

The shaky politics of Pakistan and doubts about Al Qaeda could soon put the terrorist leader in our grasp.
April 13, 2008

Osama bin Laden lives among friends, follows news on satellite television or the Internet and reads books about American foreign policy; this much can be safely inferred from his periodic audio and video statements. His latest topical punditry surfaced just a few weeks ago on jihadi websites when he addressed violence in Gaza and the pope's travels.

Because of his passable grasp of current events, Bin Laden may well understand what many Americans do not: that he is more likely to be killed or captured during the next year or so than at any time since late 2001, when he escaped U.S. warplanes bombing him in eastern Afghanistan, at Tora Bora.

This welcome change in probabilities has almost nothing to do with the Bush administration's counter-terrorism strategy, which remains rudderless and starved of resources because of the war in Iraq. It is a consequence, instead, of dramatic political changes in Pakistan, where Bin Laden is believed to be hiding and where Al Qaeda's local mistakes and the restoration of civilian democracy have combined to make him considerably less safe.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Thousands of outspoken taxpayers withstood freezing temperatures and blowing snow to rally for smaller government and less taxes yesterday in Minnesota.

Signs with messages like, "Democrats you're not my spouse, stop spending my money," and "I am not an ATM," were found everywhere. The poor economic climate nationwide and a recent statewide gas-tax increase had many at the rally seeing red.

The event took place at the state capitol and was organized by radio personality Jason Lewis, a regular fill in on the Rush Limbaugh program, who says the idea for the tax-cut rally started nearly a decade ago and has turned into an annual event.

A PAST association with a former terrorist has returned to haunt Barack Obama as the battle for the Democratic presidential nomination nears its end game.

Republicans are turning on Obama for his connection with William Ayers, once a member of the Weather Underground, a terrorist group that bombed the Capitol, the Pentagon and the State Department in the 1970s.

Ayers was loosely involved in Obama’s election as an Illinois state senator in the late 1990s, when he was introduced to local activists at a meeting in his house. He also donated $200 to Obama’s reelection campaign in 2001.

Former Congressman John LeBoutillier
Senator Barak Obama’s “bitter” comments have severely wounded his campaign. While he might very well John LeBoutilliersurvive this episode and still go on to nab the Democratic presidential nomination, this flap gives the GOP huge new ammo for the fall campaign.

What these San Francisco comments about rural people do is to - again - paint a picture of a candidate who is an Ivy League snob, a left-wing elitist who thinks he is better than rural people. And this is an image that has bedeviled liberal Democrats for decades. Mike Dukakis, Walter Mondale and John Kerry come to mind.

Doubts about Obama are already out there. Some people - 13% in a new national poll - suspect he is a Muslim. His middle name - Hussein - is also a negative among some voters. But a slew of other recent events paint a picture of a guy definitely out of the mainstream:...

King's Niece: "Racism and Abortion Stem from the Same Poisonous Root"

April 14, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Dr. Alveda King, Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., today said that racism and abortion are linked. Dr. King has, for the past two weeks been involved in commemorative events of the 40th anniversary of the death of her uncle Martin Luther King Jr. the famed leader of the civil rights movement.

"Abortion and racism are both symptoms of a fundamental human error," stated Dr. King. "The error is thinking that when someone stands in the way of our wants, we can justify getting that person out of our lives. Abortion and racism stem from the same poisonous root, selfishness."

"Of course, to get someone out of our way, we have to come up with rationales for doing so," added Dr. King. "We create the deceptions that the other person is less important, less worthy, less human. These pretenses help us feel a bit better about discriminating against someone because of his skin color or gestational age, but they're still lies and our actions are still wrong."

Good old Barack. He never misses a chance to find a pothole and jump right in.

Last week, it was in San Francisco, among the rich and beautiful. It was a fundraiser in high society and high bank accounts.

Democrat presidential contender Barack Obama was there to entice guests to break out the checkbooks and write the big ones – checks with lots of zeroes. He decided to cement his appeal by demeaning people in Pennsylvania.

Barack Obama's going to be the bitter one at the end of this.
Post Date Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Some liberal commentators have downplayed the effect of Barack Obama's fundraising speech at a San Francisco fundraiser last week. But that's wishful thinking. Along with the revelations about Obama's pastor Jeremiah Wright, his remarks in San Francisco will haunt him not only in the upcoming primaries in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia, but also in the general election against John McCain, assuming he gets the Democratic nomination.

To win in November, a Democratic presidential candidate has to carry most of the industrial heartland states that stretch from Pennsylvania to Missouri. That becomes even more imperative if a Democrat can't carry Florida--and because of his relative weakness in South Florida, Obama is unlikely to do so against McCain. Ruy Teixeira and I have calculated that in the heartland states, a Democratic presidential candidate has to win from 45 to 48 percent of the white working class vote. In some states, like West Virginia and Kentucky, the percentage is well over a majority.

Some Democrats insist that Obama need not worry about these states because he will be able to make up for a defeat in Ohio or even Pennsylvania with a victory in Virginia or Colorado. But in Virginia, McCain will be able to draw upon coastal suburbanites closely tied to the military. These voters backed Democrats like Chuck Robb and Jim Webb, who are both veterans, but they may not go for Obama. And in the Southwest, McCain will be able to challenge Obama among Hispanics. So to win in November, Obama will have to win almost all of these heartland states. Which is a problem, because even before he uttered his infamous words about these voters "clinging" to guns, religion, abortion, and fears about free trade, Obama looked vulnerable in the region. A look at the white working class's relationship with earlier Democratic candidates underscores the various reasons why.

Monday, 14 April 2008

A new form of cloning has been developed that is easier to carry out than the technique used to create Dolly the sheep, raising fears that it may one day be used on human embryos to produce "designer" babies.

Scientists who used the procedure to create baby mice from the skin cells of adult animals have found it to be far more efficient than the Dolly technique, with fewer side effects, which makes it more acceptable for human use.

The mice were made by inserting skin cells of an adult animal into early embryos produced by in-vitro fertilisation (IVF). Some of the resulting offspring were partial clones but some were full clones – just like Dolly.

Illegal aliens, socialists are ruining U.S. economy

Capitalism made the United States the economic powerhouse of the 20th century, but our government's anti-American socialist agenda is killing the economy. Some of the harmful effects are evident in malignant trade agreements, illegal immigration, subprime mortgages, and oil supply.

Manufacturing provides the majority of wealth for the nation. In the last 20 years, we have shipped high-paying manufacturing jobs offshore via trade agreements such as NAFTA. China has been a major beneficiary, but the American worker has seen a lower standard of living and reduced purchasing power. The harm to the American workers is evident in the automotive, steel, and electronics industries.

Illegal immigration also has caused immense damage to the nation's economy. One estimate calculates the cost of welfare benefits and fraud at $1 trillion per year. Instead of investing your hard earned money, you are supporting illegal aliens.

The Indian medical doctor suggests that Jesus never spoke of the necessity to believe in Him for salvation, but that those words were put into his mouth by followers writing decades after.

According to Chopra, this "third Jesus" is a "cosmic Christ" who "taught his followers how to reach God consciousness." He also argues that Christ was a savior, not the Savior of mankind, and was an "enlightened teacher who intended to save the world by showing others the path to God consciousness."

Hamas terrorists join Jimmy Carter fan club
Top political adviser calls ex-prez 'noble person who can achieve something no one else can'
Posted: April 13, 2008

JERUSALEM – Former President Jimmy Carter is a "noble person" whose planned meeting with Hamas would help the terror organization "engage with the world community," Ahmed Yousuf, Hamas' top political adviser in the Gaza Strip, told WND today in an exclusive interview.

"Carter can achieve something no one else can. He is open-minded and has a very noble cause to come and meet with all people," said Yousuf, the chief political adviser to Ismail Haniyeh, the deposed prime minister of the Hamas-led Palestinian government.

Yousuf, who is usually the Hamas figure responsible for coordinating meetings with foreign officials, said Carter "should get credit because he is the one who really understands the (Israeli-Palestinian) conflict and knows what is needed to achieve peace."

Obama Wasn't Just Insulting Pennsylvanians

Obama doesn't understand a great deal of America. He has no experience with it other than as a politician looking for votes, and even that experience outside of Chicago has been accumulated only since he began his run for the U.S. Senate in 2003. His life has made him keenly aware of urban dysfunction and of African-American issues even as it has exposed him to the Third World in a way that very few American officials have been.

But he is blind to what makes most American communities work. His family experiences and his work experiences have never immersed him in the majority of America that not only functions but indeed thrives. His projection on to that America of his own beliefs -- that odd mix of the beliefs assembled during his very unusual childhood, in Hawaii's most privileged school, on Chicago's south side, and at Columbia and Harvard Law School and Trinity's congregation-- has opened a lot of eyes to just how different Obama's vision of America is.

There is a furious amount of spinning underway to save Senator Obama from the consequences of his candid assessment of Americans who don't live in the big cities or on the coasts. Howard Kurtz, for example, wants to narrow the impact of Obama's slight to just small town Keystone staters, and also asserts that everyone knows what Obama meant.

Nobel Prize-Winning Peacekeeper Asks UN to Admit Climate Change Errors

When Global Warmingest-in-Chief Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize last year, the media's prideful gushing was so obvious it was almost sick-making.

Now, six months later, a fellow Nobel Peace Prize recipient is part of a group asking the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change "admit that there is no observational evidence in measured data going back 22,000 years or even millions of years that CO2 levels (whether from man or nature) have driven or are driving world temperatures."

Since it is a metaphysical certitude media will ignore this Prize winner, the following is a complete reprint of a letter sent to the IPCC on Monday (with permission):

Supreme Court weighs death for child rapists
Court to consider whether death is fair — or cruel and unusual punishment

SLIDELL, La. - When the news broke last month that a janitor had been arrested and accused of raping boys in the bathroom at an elementary school, the issue of justice and retribution became the talk around dinner tables and baseball fields.

Castrate him, some said. No, let the other inmates deal with him. No, execute him.

Castration and jailhouse vigilantism are out of the question, but putting a child rapist to death is within the bounds of Louisiana law.

Users fight to save Windows XP

By JESSICA MINTZ, AP Technology Writer Mon Apr 14, 7:49 AM ET

SEATTLE - Microsoft Corp.'s operating systems run most personal computers around the globe and are a cash cow for the world's largest software maker. But you'd never confuse a Windows user with the passionate fans of Mac OS X or even the free Linux operating system. Unless it's someone running Windows XP, a version Microsoft wants to retire.

Fans of the six-year-old operating system set to be pulled off store shelves in June have papered the Internet with blog posts, cartoons and petitions recently. They trumpet its superiority to Windows Vista, Microsoft's latest PC operating system, whose consumer launch last January was greeted with lukewarm reviews.

No matter how hard Microsoft works to persuade people to embrace Vista, some just can't be wowed. They complain about Vista's hefty hardware requirements, its less-than-peppy performance, occasional incompatibility with other programs and devices and frequent, irritating security pop-up windows.

Ron Paul Hits the Third Rail of Politics
Written by Dave Nalle
Published April 15, 2008

In recent weeks the thundering Ron Paul freight train has kind of derailed. Even though Paul announced that he was dropping out of the race on March 8, his supporters are apparently convinced that he's still campaigning and are pushing for the final surge to a surprise (and entirely delusional) victory at the GOP convention this summer. Admittedly, Paul is still making a lot of speeches and pushing his agenda, so maybe that's contributing to their confusion.

Yet if anyone had any question about the viability of Paul as a national candidate, the issue ought to be put to rest by his recent decision to leap boldly onto the electrified third rail of politics and accept an invitation to be the keynote speaker at this fall's 50th annual convention of the John Birch Society.

For those not already familiar with the John Birch Society, it is a somewhat conspiratorial extreme-right organization which was originally founded in the era of Joe McCarthy's witch hunts to help root out the communist infiltrators who infested American society. Those communists were easy to spot because they were all immigrants or Catholics or blacks or Jews, plus the occasional homosexual. The Birchers have always been big on 'real' American values and good at finding imaginary windmills to joust at. They borrowed a lot of ideas from their enemies in the process, including much of the mission and organizational structure of Soviet covert operations of the Stalinist era, with a well developed propaganda machine, multiple front groups, and a cell-like organization.

Wading back into the Democratic presidential race, billionaire businessman Bob Johnson said Monday that Sen. Barack Obama would not be his party's leading candidate if he were white.

Johnson's comments to the Observer echoed those of former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro. She stepped down as an adviser to Sen. Hillary Clinton last month after saying Obama wouldn't be where he is if he were white.

"What I believe Geraldine Ferraro meant is that if you take a freshman senator from Illinois called `Jerry Smith' and he says I'm going to run for president, would he start off with 90 percent of the black vote?" Johnson said. "And the answer is, probably not... ."

Politico: Essay Surfaces After 43 Years And Offers Insight Into The Kenyan's Mind and Politics.

(The Politico) This story was written by Ben Smith and Jeffrey Ressner.Barack Obama's dad was such an important but absent figure in his life that he devoted his first book, Dreams From My Father, to the search for details about his father's life and how the quest helped forge a son's identity.

Now, a long-forgotten essay written 43 years ago by Obama's father has surfaced, and its contents reveal much not only about the senior Obama's grasp of economic theory but also the iconoclastic politics that, his son would later write, sent him into the spiral of career disappointment that concluded with his death in 1982 in his native Kenya.

Parts of the article, titled "Problems Facing Our Socialism," have been making the rounds on several small blogs over the past week, but Politico is now reproducing the entire piece in its original form online for the first time.

A Living Lie
By Thomas Sowell

An e-mail from a reader said that, while Hillary Clinton tells lies, Barack Obama is himself a lie . That is becoming painfully apparent with each new revelation of how drastically his carefully crafted image this election year contrasts with what he has actually been saying and doing for many years.

Senator Obama's election year image is that of a man who can bring the country together, overcoming differences of party or race, as well as solving our international problems by talking with Iran and other countries with which we are at odds, and performing other miscellaneous miracles as needed.

There is, of course, not a speck of evidence that Obama has ever transcended party differences in the United States Senate. Voting records analyzed by the National Journal show him to be the farthest left of anyone in the Senate. Nor has he sponsored any significant bipartisan legislation -- nor any other significant legislation, for that matter.

Baca: Gang Hate Crimes
Apr 15, 2008 | 9:37 AM
Category: News

Featured On: MyFoxLA

LA County Sheriff Lee Baca, on April 4th, told a largely African-American audience in Compton that when Latino gangs are at war with black gangs over drugs and turf they are sometimes satisfied to kill any young black living in their rival’s territory in order to flex their criminal muscle. In other words, Baca asserted innocents are being targeted for death by gangs just because of their race. Sounds like a hate-crime to most of us.

Fox 11 News obtained a videotape of the remarks Baca made to the National Association for Equal Justice in America; those remarks, taped by Lonzo Williams, a cable TV talk-show host, were included in a Fox 11 story that aired Friday (April 10) as part of our continuing coverage of the murder of Jamiel Shaw, a promising LA High School football player, allegedly killed by an 18th Street gang member on March 2.

Shaw lived in a neighborhood identified as the turf of the Black P-Stones (BPS), an African-American gang that has had a long, deadly feud with the predominantly Latino 18th Street gang. But Shaw was not a member of BPS, and the evening he was murdered Shaw was not wearing attire that might have caused him to be mistakenly identified as a gang member. Immigration and police officials say Shaw's accused murderer, Pedro Espinoza, 19, is an illegal alien who has been an 18th Street gang member since he was 12 years old.

Jimmy Carter: Emissary of evil
Posted: April 16, 2008
1:00 am Eastern

Jimmy Carter is an evil man. It is painful to label a past president of the United States as a force for darkness. But it is dangerous to let a man like Jimmy Carter stalk around the globe cloaked in the garb of American royalty, planting the seeds of Western Civilization's destruction.

On Tuesday, former President Carter met with leaders of the terrorist group Hamas. He embraced Nasser al-Shaer, the man who has run the Palestinian education system, brainwashing children into believing Jews are the descendants of pigs and dogs. He laid a wreath at the grave of Yasser Arafat, the most notorious terrorist thug of the 20th century. Then, he had the audacity to offer to act as a conduit between the Palestinian Arabs and the Israeli and U.S. governments. This is somewhat like Lord Haw-Haw offering to broker peace between the German and British governments during World War II.

Carter is a notorious anti-Semite and an even more notorious terrorism-enabler. In particular, he is a huge supporter of Palestinian violence. He considered himself a friend to Arafat, as Jay Nordlinger of National Review wrote in his masterful 2002 piece, "Carterpalooza!": After the Gulf War, when Saudi Arabia was perturbed by Arafat's support for Saddam Hussein, Carter flew to the country at Arafat's behest to soothe the Saudis. In 1990, Carter told Arafat, "You should not be concerned that I am biased. I am much more harsh with the Israelis." He then proceeded to agree with Arafat that "the Reagan administration was not renowned as promise keepers," according to Douglas Brinkley.

Ahmadinejad Calls Sept. 11 Attacks 'Suspicious Event'

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad cast doubt Wednesday over the U.S. version of the Sept. 11 attacks, calling it a pretext used to invade Afghanistan and Iraq.

Although Iran has condemned the 2001 al-Qaida attacks on New York and Washington in the past, this was the third time in a week that Ahmadinejad questioned the death toll, who was behind the attacks and how it happened.

"Four or five years ago, a suspicious event occurred in New York. A building collapsed and they said that 3,000 people had been killed but never published their names," Ahmadinejad told Iranians in the holy city of Qom.

Stephanopoulos Quizzes Obama on Relationship to Member of Terrorist Group; Olbermann Enraged

By Scott Whitlock | April 16, 2008 - 21:34 ET

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, a co-host of Wednesday night’s Democratic debate, quizzed presidential candidate Barack Obama about his relationship with William Ayers, a member of the Weather Underground, a radical group that conspired to bomb buildings such as the Pentagon in the 1970s.

Prefacing the issue under the “general theme of patriotism,” and previous questions about why Obama has, at times, refused to wear an American flag lapel pin, Stephanopoulos noted, “[Ayers] never apologized for [the bombings]. And in fact, on 9/11, he was quoted in the New York Times, saying, ‘I don’t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough.’” The ABC host pointedly observed that Obama’s campaign has described the relationship with Ayers as “friendly.” Stephanopoulos then asked, “Can you explain that relationship for the voters and explain to Democrats why it won’t be a problem?”

[UPDATE, from Brent Baker. The question enraged MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, who charged at the start of his 10 PM EDT live post-debate second edition of Countdown: "The campaign may have seemed dirty. It had nothing on one of the moderators of the debate tonight." He soon elaborated on his anger at Stephanopoulos:...

Philly Face-off ***NEW***
A super-delegate debate.

By Stephen Spruiell

Philadelphia, Pa. — Judging by the immediate reaction online, it appears that the commentariat came away from Wednesday night’s Democratic debate on ABC with two impressions. The first is that Obama lost the debate, and the second is that ABC News moderators Charles Gibson and George Stephanopolous asked stupid questions. Both assessments are wrong.

On the first count, one cannot say whether Obama “won” or “lost” without considering what Hillary needed to accomplish. There are only two ways she can win the nomination now. Either she must overcome Obama’s lead in pledged delegates (a.k.a. those won during the primaries and caucuses), which is nearly impossible mathematically, or she must win the votes of enough superdelegates (a.k.a. Democratic-party bosses) to overturn the verdict of the party rank-and-file. For her to do that, she will have to persuade a majority of the superdelegates (or a majority of them must reach the conclusion on their own) that Obama cannot win in the general election against John McCain.

Obama: Silence in the face of evil
By Peggy Shapiro

"Silence in the face of evil is always on the side of the aggressor."
- Elie Wiesel

Barack Obama, the eloquent speaker who mesmerizes the media, the man whose orations make women swoon, the candidate who promises to embrace dictators and terrorists in conversation, falls strangely silent when his words are needed to stand up against evil, intolerance or injustice. In a dangerous world with evil regimes aspiring to destroy the United States and the values we represent, the silence of an American President would be an
unthinkable disaster.

We know that for over twenty years, Obama listened attentively to his pastor's diatribes against the United States and Israel and said nothing. Confronted with outright lies that the United States created the AIDS virus to destroy Africa and imports harmful drugs to destroy African Americans, Obama was silent. When the church website and newsletter carried the message of Hamas, labeled as a terrorist group by both the U.S. and the E.U., Obama maintained his silence.

Obama's bizarre food stamp cred
Thomas Lifson

Barack and Michelle Obama have taken to invoking the claim that his mother received food stamps, perhaps in part to gain some sort of credibility as an advocate of the poor while pulling in more than 3 million bucks last year. And maybe to erase the memory of Michelle whining about how hard it is for them to pay for everything she wants, while advising the inhabitants of Zanesville, Ohio to avoid selling out to the corporate sector.

Sweetness & Light looks at the chronology of Barry Obama's childhood and wonders when it would have been possible for him to have been getting this form of federal welfare. A correspondent writes:

[Barack Obama] was born in 1961 but his mother could not get food stamps then because a) she was married and b) they were not available then. ...

Layoffs finally coming in the NYT newsroom?
Thomas Lifson
As predicted here a month and a half ago, it looks as though the New York Times newsroom will see its first-ever layoffs soon. Faced with continuing decline in profitability, thanks to both the general decline of the newspaper industry and the inept management of Pinch Sulzberger, the company tried to induce voluntary exits with cash incentives. But it looks like not enough of the newsies took the bait, and now they face the unpleasant prospect of getting the boot.

According to John Kolbin of the New York Observer, the New York Times has circulated a staff memorandum seeking more voluntary departures. But the deadline for accepting buyouts was early last month, so obviously the Times is as feckless, indeed spineless, in enforcing deadlines internally as in the foreign policy choices it recommends for defending our national security.

Note to Pinch and Bill Keller: When your earlier threats and deadlines prove to be empty, few people will regard your threat of layoffs seriously. And if and when you grow a pair, they will react with indignation at what they regard as a betrayal when you finally make good on the threat.

Planned Parenthood Has 'Racist Agenda,' MLK's Niece Says

CNSNews.com Staff Writer
April 17, 2008

(CNSNews.com) - The niece of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., is among a group of pro-life black leaders calling for an end to federal funding for Planned Parenthood because of what she calls Planned Parenthood's "racist agenda."

"Planned Parenthood is definitely a racist organization - they have a racist agenda," Dr. Alveda King told Cybercast News Service. "Since 1970, there has been something like 50 million abortions. About 17 million of those have been blacks. It's black genocide. They are killing our people and fooling us."

Last year, The Advocate, a student publication at the University of California - Los Angeles, placed phone calls to Planned Parenthood offices around the country offering to make donations specifically to subsidize the abortion of black babies.

From the Virginia Tech tragedy, colleges are learning hard lessons
One year later

On college campuses across the country, conference rooms are the scenes of some hard, personal questions: Is this behavior dangerous, or just odd? Is this student in trouble, and will he cause trouble for someone else? How concerned should we be? What should we do?

Bigger questions, too: Where is the line between fantasy and warning, between distressed and disintegrating? How can we recognize students who retreat into their illness, as well as those who act out?

These necessary discussions are taking place as colleges learn the lesson of what happened at Virginia Tech one year ago today: The student who killed 32 people and himself had, for a long time, shown signs that he was in trouble, and might be trouble.

Supreme Court Ruling Opens Door for States to Resume Executions by Lethal Injection

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

WASHINGTON — After a nationwide halt, U.S. executions are all but sure to resume soon following a splintered Supreme Court ruling Wednesday that approved the most widely used method of lethal injection.

Virginia immediately lifted its moratorium; Oklahoma and Mississippi said they would seek execution dates for convicted murderers, and other states were ready to follow after nearly seven months without an execution in the United States.

Voting 7-2, the conservative court led by Chief Justice John Roberts rebuffed the latest assault on capital punishment, this time by foes focusing on methods rather than on the legality of the death penalty itself. Justice John Paul Stevens voted with the majority on the question of lethal injections but said for the first time that he now believes the death penalty is unconstitutional.

Obama Big Money 'Bundler' A Hugo Chavez Supporter, Will Media Report?

Adding to the growing mountain of evidence that Barack Obama either intensely dislikes the very country of which he wants to be elected president, or at the very least surrounds himself with those who do, news is breaking that one of Obama’s big money donation “bundlers” is virulently anti-military and a supporter of Hugo Chavez – the well-known Venezuelan dictator famous for his hateful anti-American rhetoric. There is even a photo of Obama “bundler” and Code Pink operative Jodie Evans arm-in-arm with Hugo Chavez. (Evans is the red head in the middle)

Code Pink has been at the forefront of the anti-war movement and has involved itself in many attacks on our members of the military. They’ve even targeted the wounded for their attacks on the war in Iraq. Because of this connection, pro-troop groups are demanding that Obama return the $50,000 that Code Pink operative Evans gathered from her associates to donate to the Obama campaign.

Catherine Moy of Human Events details some of Code Pink’s campaigns against our wounded troops in her latest blog posting....***

Obama reports income of $4.2 million in 2007 tax returns

By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press Writer Wed Apr 16, 7:13 PM ET

PHILADELPHIA - Democratic Sen. Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, made $4.2 million last year as widespread interest in the presidential candidate pushed the sales of his two books.

In tax returns the campaign released Wednesday, the Obamas reported a significant jump in their income from the previous year as profits from the books "Dreams From My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope" accounted for some $4 million. The Obamas paid federal taxes of $1.4 million and donated $240,370 to charity.

Their salaried income was $260,735, which included his $157,102 salary as a U.S. senator and hers of $103,633 as vice president of community and external affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

SACRAMENTO — The state social services agency on Wednesday was moving to shut down nine homes used for child daycare and foster care after an audit found registered sex offenders living there in violation of state law.

The revelation came after state auditors compared the addresses of 75,000 licensed facilities, including foster family homes and daycare centers, with the state's database of registered sex offenders.

California Department of Social Services Director John Wagner said the audit found that the addresses of 49 sex offenders matched those of 46 child care facilities.

Former Newark mayor Sharpe James was convicted in federal court of five charges, including conspiracy and fraud, along with former girlfriend Tamika Riley. He could face 20 years in prison, but is said to be more likely to get a sentence in the single digits.

The vile nature of Sharpe James's brand of politics was superbly captured on film in a movie that ought to be widely used in political science classes across America. Do yourself a favor and rent the excellent movie Street Fight about the 2002 election in which James employed the lowest form of political tactics in defeating a challenge from Cory Booker in the Newark Democratic mayoral primary (tantamount to election). Booker, who became a political hero to me, is today the mayor of Newark, and is reported to be making progress in turning around that city which suffered so deeply under the governance of a corrupt Democrat political machine, one that was integral to the New Jersey Democratic Party. Jim McGreevy is seen in the film before he put his boyfriend in charge of anti-terror planning, got exposed, and left office.

But in a sense Sharpe James steals the film from Booker. Villains often have that kind of charisma, and James was no exception. His slimy political machine and contemptible ethics made a vivid impression on me. I despise the man.

Americans are a compassionate people. Faced with media reports about the rising tide of foreclosures, it's understandable that many feel tempted to applaud federal action – to agree that politicians should "do something" to help people stay in their homes.

Should the government try and come to the rescue? Go to The Heritage Foundation's "What Would Reagan Do?" website and take our quiz to see if you know what President Reagan (who took us from double-digit mortgage rates to a booming economy) taught us about government bailouts.

As bad as things are, the wrong kind of congressional action could make things worse – and reward dishonest borrowers at the expense of hard-working Americans who did nothing wrong.

Now that the United Nations and the "world government cartel" has officially blessed the global warming "let's tax thin air" movement, it was probably inevitable that the rest of us would drive around through snow in the middle of April.

You see, the United Nations and one-world elitists have an exquisite history of incompetence and corruption that enriches their friends and makes nearly everything they touch among the most useless organizations and efforts on earth.

'Legislation would assure taxes don't support negotiations with terrorists'

A Michigan congressman has proposed cutting all federal funding for ex-President Jimmy Carter's Carter Center because of his current trip to meet with leaders of terrorist organizations.

The CARTER Act, by U.S. Rep. Joe Knollenberg, of Farmington Hills, Mich., would prevent federal dollars from being used to finance discussions and negotiations with terrorist groups, he said.

The Coordinated American Response To Extreme Radicals Act estimates taxpayers already have given the Carter's think-tank foundation some $19 million. But Knollenberg is suggesting no more...

The Democrats’ Wimp Factor
As Obama's patriotism is questioned, he's starting to look more and more like John Kerry in '04.

The specter of John Kerry in 2004 is beginning to haunt the Democrats in 2008. It is the specter of wimpy campaigns past. It showed up, like Banquo's ghost, at the debate Wednesday night in Philadelphia, particularly when Hillary Clinton joined with ABC's George Stephanopoulos and Charlie Gibson to nip away at the edges of Barack Obama's patriotism. Between the questions about Obama's meager association with William Ayers, a former Weatherman, and the suspicions raised by his lack of a flag lapel pin, the likely nominee is slowly being turned into John Kerry. He is becoming, in other words, a candidate who may be mostly right about national security but who will lack the Red State street cred to carry his point—and the election.

Once again timorous Democratic advisers behind the scenes are hoping they can run mainly on the ailing economy. While their candidates are urging an end to George W. Bush's war in Iraq, they are terrified of questioning the larger premises of his "war on terror" or John McCain's redefinition of it as the "transcendent challenge of the 21st century." Today's Dems are, in other words, proving unequal to the task of reclaiming the party's mostly honorable heritage on national security. This view is sadly out of touch, today more than ever. To little notice, Obama's tough, clearly stated position on Bush's war—that it was disastrously misdirected toward Iraq when Afghanistan was always the real front—is becoming conventional wisdom, even among the Bush administration's top security officials, like Defense Secretary Bob Gates and Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs. During two days of nearly impenetrable testimony on Iraq by Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker last week, one answer rang out as clearly as an alarm bell. Under questioning from Joe Biden, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Crocker admitted that Al Qaeda poses a greater threat in Afghanistan and Pakistan than it does in Iraq. No one knows more about this than the ambassador, an Arabic-speaking diplomat who previously served as envoy to Pakistan and whose career practically tells the story of America and the age of terror going back to the 1983 bombings of the U.S. Embassy and Marine barracks in Beirut.

Yet the region that poses America's number one threat is getting little in attention and resources compared to Iraq. What Obama is arguing on the stump is pretty close to what Gates and the Joint Chiefs have been quietly hearing from their military advisers: that the best the United States can do with its scant NATO force of 37,000 in Afghanistan is to hold off the resurgent Taliban and their Al Qaeda guests in a stalemate. Under current conditions Osama bin Laden and his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, the chief culprits of 9/11, will continue to have plenty of room to roam, unharried by any large-scale U.S. or Pakistani effort to go after them. This is even truer today; next door to Afghanistan, Pakistan is transitioning into a post-Musharraf era and seeking to negotiate more with the extremists. Obama called last year for two additional brigades to be sent to Afghanistan, and last week he was joined by Biden, who told an audience at Georgetown University that "the longer we stay in Iraq, the more we put off the day when we fully join the fight against the real Al Qaeda threat and finally defeat those who attacked America seven years ago." Biden added that Gen. Dan McNeil, commander of the international force in Afghanistan, told him during a visit in February "that with two extra combat brigades—about 10,000 soldiers—he could turn around the security situation in the south, where the Taliban is on move. But he can't get them because of Iraq." Even Hillary Clinton has been tacking, very quietly, in Obama's direction.

The Obama Aesthetic
By Thomas Lifson
Barack Obama's campaign has been all about image. The well-dressed***, impeccably groomed, and elegantly articulate speaker was able to speak of hope, change, and unity, and for awhile the public bought it. Capitalizing on the huge store of guilt, compassion, and hope for better racial relations among the vast majority of Americans of all races, Obama posed as the man who might heal the wounds of the past.

The bonhomie lasted for months, as the press corps, no strangers to Obama's halo their own guilt and hope and leftist inclinations, averted its eyes from those elements of his politics and life story that were discordant with a unifier's mission, and portayed him as almost supernaturally virtuous. Obama long ago learned how to disarm strangers who might find him an unusual or perhaps threatening figure, and as long as the scrutiny didn't get too detailed, the game worked splendidly.

But that was before Hillary Clinton's campaign took him seriously. Before the Clinton war room wizards, past masters of planting stories and themes in friendly media hands, got to work on him. American Thinker and other conservative websites long have been pointing to his Alinskyite past, noting his Senate voting record and his propensity to associate with left wing extremists like Bill Ayers. But until very recently, the major media were content to allow his chosen narrative of centrism and unity to prevail. No messy qualms about actual policies disturbed the aesthetic of hope and optimism and unity.

The nonprofit Americans United for Separation of Church and State, which long has waged a campaign to keep churches and pastors silent on moral issues in the public arena, has been accused of violating the same Internal Revenue Service regulations it accuses churches of contravening.

"By sending [a] complaint letter [about a Texas pastor] on March 6, 2008, we believe AU was intervening in a campaign by intentionally attempting to chill the speech of a supporter of a candidate in an effort to both chill the pastor and harm the candidate's campaign," said a letter to the IRS from the Houston Area Pastor Council. "That is in direct violation of the IRS's prohibition on non-profits intervening in political campaigns."

The Americans United organization is incorporated in the United States under the IRS's 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax status, the same as most churches and religious institutions. The letter was sent by Dave Welch, executive director of the HAPC, to Lois G. Lerner, director of the exempt organizations division at the IRS.

Photos taken by Tom McFadden Director of Admissions at Christendom College and provided first to LifeSiteNews.com, show Kerry and Dodd receiving while Kennedy remains seated as his row leaves to receive Communion.

Senator Ted Kennedy was thought to not have received communion because of his remaining seated, but the next day LifeSiteNews received the following statement from Daniel J. Skehan, who was near Kennedy at the function:

"Two of my sons and I attended the Papal Mass yesterday. We were seated in section 216, directly above the section in which Ted Kennedy was seated. Several minutes prior to the general distribution of communion a priest walked down to Ted Kennedy and gave him communion. There was some discussion amongst we in our section about the inappropriateness of his reception of the Host. Be certain, he remained seated not out of some self-enforced respect for the sacrament, but rather out of respect for his girth and mobility."

Don Cherry on CBC Sports' "Coach's Corner" said he saw Al Gore walking into last Saturday's hockey game with David Susuki, the household name in Canadian science. Surprise, surprise!

Years ago, shortly after the United Nations and its liberal Democrat puppet and partner, Al Gore, met in Rio De Janeiro to concoct the phony crisis, I was warning people that Kyoto proponents would then proceed to dole out generous grants to people like Susuki and others of questionable integrity to facilitate implementation of their monetary, eco-tax/carbon-tax ends. While scientists who object to the dissemination of outright fabrication and climate untruths based on faulty computer models are denied funding, the compliant Susuki types are richly rewarded for their part in convincing the public that we have an alarming crisis on our hands.

It's Time for Another Broadside on the SAVE Act!!
Tom DeWeese
Congress has been listening, but it's imperative they hear from us again. More and more congressmen Tom DeWeesehave been unwilling to pass this intrusion bill that does more to threaten your privacy and security than it does to secure our borders. Many congressmen now outright reject the SAVE Act as unworkable; this tells us Congress is listening to you. But the SAVE Act has not been pulled, and that's what we need. Please give it one more strong push, and hopefully we can kill this very dangerous bill once and for all.

Here are the major reasons the American Policy Center opposes the SAVE Act.

* Section 201 of the bill would require employers to use the E-Verify, or EEV, system "for every person or other entity that hires one or more individuals for employment in the United States." It is outrageous to propose that every working American submit to having their personal information placed in a massive Department of Homeland Security (DHS) database, and be registered in a DHS worker registry, before being authorized to work in our own country. The presumption that DHS can better find millions of illegal, undocumented workers by first herding them together with a hundred+ million legitimate workers is absurd. In fact, a study by the Cato Institute found the E-Verify program to be ineffective, intrusive, and expensive. "A full-fledged Electronic Employment Verification (EEV) system has many practical and technical problems - to say nothing of the question of whether it is appropriate for a free country - and would still fail to prevent illegal immigration" says Jim Harper, Cato's director of Information Policy Studies. Mr. Harper further stated, "The things necessary to make a system like this really impervious to forgery and fraud would convert it from an identity system into a cradle-to-grave biometric tracking system."

* Section 203 of the SAVE Act would establish a standardized, national databank that tracks "vital events" in your life, particularly your birth and death. The Real ID Act requires states use a national birth certificate databank to verify identity - but no such databank exists, making it impossible for states to comply. Yet the majority of Americans oppose carrying, or being chipped with, any kind of mandatory national identification (biometric or not), such as proposed by the Real ID Act of 2005. And the number of states that have chosen not to comply is gaining momentum. Twenty-two states have outright refused, or have to-date refused, compliance with the Real ID Act. The outright rebellion of so many states has caused House and Senate members to reevaluate the wisdom of the Real ID Act. Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) has sponsored an amendment to the Senate's budget resolution to prevent spending money on Real ID this year.

Terror group compared senator to JFK in its endorsement of him for president

Barack Obama's campaign said yesterday it is "flattered" that Hamas' endorsement of the Illinois senator compared him to John F. Kennedy, though it objects to any diplomatic contact with the terrorist group.

"I like John Kennedy too," said chief Obama strategist David Axelrod. "That's about the only thing we have in common with this gentleman from Hamas. We all agree that John Kennedy was a great president, and it's flattering when anybody says that Barack Obama would follow in his footsteps."

Axelrod was reacting to comments earlier this week from Ahmed Yousuf, Hamas' top political adviser in the Gaza Strip, who said Hamas "hopes" Obama will win the presidential elections and "change" America's foreign policy.

Mount Vernon Superintendent Stephen Short says Friday's action hasn't caused any major disruption.

Teacher John Freshwater says forcing him to keep his Bible out of sight infringes on his rights.

State District Judge Barbara Walther late Friday ordered that parents and children of the Yearning For Zion Ranch submit DNA samples to help sort out family relationships that have confounded authorities since 416 children were taken into state custody two weeks ago.

Sampling is to begin Monday and will probably take several days to complete, said Darrell Azar, a spokesman for Child Protective Services. Results could take more than a month.

Tancredo to pope: Stop promoting amnesty
In House speech suggests pontiff trying to bolster church membership

Rep. Tom Tancredo – who vied for the Republican presidential nomination to make illegal immigration a priority issue – suggested in a House speech yesterday that Pope Benedict XVI is encouraging Latin Americans to come to the U.S. to bolster flagging membership in the Catholic Church.

The pontiff, asked by reporters on his flight to the U.S. Tuesday if he would address Hispanic immigration, said the U.S. must do "everything possible to fight ... all forms of violence so that immigrants may lead dignified lives."

Tancredo, a former Catholic, told House colleagues, "I would like to know what part of our lax immigration policy is considered 'violent.' I fail to see how accepting more refugees than any other nation while providing free health care, free education, free housing and free social service benefits to millions of illegal aliens in this country is any way 'degrading' to them or 'undignified.'"

That's Why Democrats Can't Win an Election
Written by Staci Schoff

As a hopeful Democrat, I’m so disappointed in Barack Obama’s recent stereotyping of working class, religious, rural, and small town people. In the small Midwestern town where I grew up, there are doctors, teachers, farmers, business owners, and lawyers. There are rich people and poor people, smart people and dumb people – pretty much like the west coast city I live in now, only with fewer places to hang out on a Saturday afternoon. I suppose that Obama shouldn’t be expected to know first hand what shapes the values of ordinary Americans, but even George Bush, who had the most pampered and privileged upper class upbringing possible, has a better intuitive grasp of it (or at least his speech writers and advisors do – maybe Obama could borrow one).

The truth about rural, small town people – particularly in the Midwest – is they really don’t care what people are doing in San Francisco. “If you want to live in California with all them crazy people, go ahead,” I’ve been told on more than one occasion. They do care, however, if the government is going to tell them what to do with their land, what to drive, what to eat, what doctor to go to, et cetera, and 'progressive bordering on socialist' candidates just don’t speak to their values.

When I was a kid the dumbed down version of politics went something like this: Rich people are Republicans and poor people are Democrats. But the reality is Republicans attract two types of lower income voters. The first are fiscal conservatives who don’t want to pay too much in taxes and most definitely do not want to accept anything that resembles a “handout” from the government. They don’t want the Democrats’ pity – they might not have what Bill Gates has but they respect that he earned it and they’ll pay their own way, thank you very much.

Beautiful sunny day. Down in Washington, it was so sunny, the Pope was wearing his stained glass sunglasses.

These trips can be kind of tricky; often there can be some confusion and embarrassment. The Pope, after the mass, accidentally gave the last rites to John McCain.

The Pope said the mass and then took off in the Popemobile, and President Bush followed him in the dopemobile.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

I watched the debate between Hillary and Barack last night. As you know Hillary is trying to appeal to the blue-collar voters. She's drinking; she's talking about hunting and fishing. And it's working. In the latest poll she's up eight points in the "mullet vote."

President Bush announced his plan this week to limit greenhouse gases — he said he will ban all greenhouses.

Yesterday of course was Pope Benedict's birthday. Happy birthday to him. They had a little party for him at the White House. As you know the Pope does not drink; he does not do drugs; and he has taken a vow of celibacy. So, it's pretty safe to say no congressmen showed up for that party.

Barack Obama has glorified the role of words in moving history. He has relied on his oratory to propel his campaign. He has also advocated transparency and openness. Indeed he has made the public part of his campaign (Yes We Can).

Nevertheless, in the wake of a series of embarassing media performances-highlighted by his fumbling responses during last weeks debate with Hillary Clinton, he has now gone into hiding, avoiding the press and the pressing questions journalists may ask about his associates and his plans.

He fumbled the Charlie Gibson question regarding capital gains tax rates and showed himself to be out of his depth when handling policy questions without his handlers. This avoidance of the press is clear. He has not made himself available for questions from the press for 10 days now and the number looks to go higher

Obama Camp: Clinton 'Should Win Big'

The Obama campaign looks to lower expectation in Pennsylvania one last time. Here's the latest memo from Bill Burton:

The Bar for Clinton in Pennsylvania

With all eyes on today’s contest, one thing is clear: Pennsylvania is considered a state tailor-made for Hillary Clinton, and by rights she should win big. She has family roots in the state, she has the support of the Democratic establishment—including Governor Rendell’s extensive network—and former President Clinton is fondly remembered.

Clinton has been leading by large margins in Pennsylvania. In the weeks leading up to the primary, she led by as much as 25 points. They were so confident that their own Pennsylvania spokesman said Clinton would be “unbeatable” in Pennsylvania—regardless of spending by her opponent. [Washington Post, 3/7/08]

Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., says Christians in America can celebrate ethnic differences while also advancing the cause of reconciliation among the races.

While there have been many advances in civil rights and racial reconciliation since her uncle's assassination 40 years ago, King believes many Christians do not understand that more needs to be done. She says Christians in America must look to God's Word to help the nation overcome racism. King also notes that, according to scripture, there is only one race.

"Go to the Book [of] Acts 17, where it says of one family, of one man, God made all the nations. [We should] see ourselves as nations, not as races; and then we don't have anything to fight about because we are the human race. And then, of course, there are wonderful ethnic differences. I celebrate those differences," King points out.

Dems Fight On, Clinton Wins PA Primary
Despite Delegate Lead, Obama Can't Seem to Lock Up Democratic Nomination
By JENNIFER PARKER
April 22, 2008

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., has won the Pennsylvania primary vote as expected, claiming victory in a Philadelphia speech.

"Some people counted me out and said to drop out but the American people don't quit, and they deserve a president who doesn't quit, either," Clinton told supporters at a victory rally after walking out to Tom Petty's song "I Won't Back Down."

"We were up against a formidable opponent who outspent us 3-1... trying to knock us out of therace," Clinton said of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., "Well the people of Pennsylvania had other ideas today."

Obama briefly congratulated Clinton in a speech in Evansville, Ind., but then turned to his common theme of the need for change in American politics and to attacks on Republican John McCain.

How Democrats harm blacks
Posted: April 23, 2008
1:00 am Eastern

Dr. Thomas Sowell's recent column, "Republicans and blacks," (April 10, 2008) pointed out the foolhardiness of Republican strategy to secure more black votes. He pointed out that it is a losing strategy to reach blacks through the civil rights organizations and black politicians. It's like a quarterback trying to throw a pass to a receiver surrounded by a bunch of defenders. The second losing strategy is to appeal to blacks by offering the same kinds of things Democrats offer – token honors, politically correct rhetoric and welfare-state handouts.

Sowell suggests that Republican strategy should be to highlight the liberal Democratic agenda that has done great harm to the poorest of the black community. Among those he mentions is the environmental agenda where "tens of thousands of blacks who have been forced out of a number of liberal Democratic California counties by skyrocketing housing prices, brought on by Democratic environmentalists' severe restrictions on the building of homes or apartments." Since 1970, San Francisco's black population has been cut in half.

Then there are the liberal judges and parole boards that have turned criminals loose to prey on black communities. According to Bureau of Justice statistics, between 1976 and 2005, while 13 percent of the population, blacks committed over 52 percent of the nation's homicides and were 46 percent of the homicide victims. Ninety-four percent of black homicide victims had a black person as their murderer.

PA Exit Polls: Whites, Blue-Collar Voters Stick With Clinton

Tuesday, April 22, 2008 10:30 PM

WASHINGTON -- Working-class white voters rallied around Hillary Rodham Clinton on Tuesday as she kept her candidacy alive with a victory in Pennsylvania's presidential primary. Barack Obama won among Democrats who had newly flocked to the party for the day's showdown and scored even stronger than usual with blacks.

Obama, hoping to drive the New York senator from the race, had fought hard during weeks of campaigning in the state to appeal to blue-collar white voters, a group he has seldom won during four months of Democratic contests so far.

But Clinton won support from two of three whites without college degrees, and about the same number of whites from families earning under $50,000 a year, according to preliminary figures from exit polls of voters conducted for The Associated Press and the television networks. This was one of her stronger performances of the year with these groups, compared to prior competitive Democratic primaries.

Barack Obama needs a prepared speech, a teleprompter, and adoration. Left to his own extemporaneous devices, he missteps and in some cases "waffles."

Asked to comment on former President Jimmy Carter's meeting with Hamas officials, the senator replied sternly, "Why can't I just eat my waffle?" When the reporter repeated the question, the candidate bit into his breakfasts and replied, "Just let me eat my waffle."

The question was legitimate since Obama initially waffled on the subject of Carter's engagement with the terrorist organization Hamas. He said it was not his place to criticize former President Jimmy Carter... "I'm not going to comment on former President Carter. He's a private citizen. It's not my place to discuss who he shouldn't meet with," Obama (Reuters April 11, 2008) With the State Department and both Republican and Democratic members of Congress condemning the visit, Obama finally agreed that it was "not a good idea."

Biblical Scholars Challenge Pelosi's 'Scripture' Quote
By Pete Winn
CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer
April 23, 2008

(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is fond of quoting a particular passage of Scripture. The quote, however, does not appear in the Bible and is "fictional," according to biblical scholars.

In her April 22 Earth Day news release, Pelosi said, "The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, 'To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.' On this Earth Day, and every day, let us pledge to our children, and our children's children, that they will have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and the opportunity to experience the wonders of nature."

Cybercast News Service repeatedly queried the speaker's office for two days to determine where the alleged Bible quote is found. Thus far, no one has responded.

Rep. Trent Franks of Arizona appeared at the event this morning along with black leaders who signed a letter to all presidential candidates, the Congressional Black Caucus, both Republican and Democrat Congressional and Senatorial Campaign Committees and the Democrat and Republican National Committees.

NY State Introduces Bill To Ban Sanctuary Cities & Require Enforcement Of Immigration

Peter Gadiel

Few Americans are aware that currently almost no state and local police are permitted to enforce U.S. immigration law. This is a situation brought about intentionally by the illegal alien/open borders lobby in order to allow illegal aliens to avoid capture and deportation.

Prior to, and even long after 9/11, there were fewer than 2,000 federal agents assigned to what is known as “internal enforcement” of immigration law, and no state or local police were enlisted or permitted to assist these understaffed federal agents. Even FBI agents were not empowered to enforce these laws.

The failure to enlist the 700,000 state and local police in enforcing immigration law was a major cause of the mass murders of September 11th, and of the thousands of murders, vehicular homicides, rapes and other crimes Americans have suffered at the hands of illegal aliens , before and after 9/11/01.

"I decided to stop using the video when one Christian whom I knew told me he thought it was unhelpful to the purpose for which I was using it," said Stanford University law professor Larry Lessig on his website. "That seemed right, so I dropped it."

The controversy began when Erick Erickson at the weblog RedState posted a YouTube.com video of Lessig giving an author's talk to an audience of Google employees.

Can Scientists Really Predict a Global Climate Catastrophe?
By Zach Krajacic

Just as Al Gore did not invent the Internet, he did not invent global warming theory. Scientists invented it, and they continue to fuel the mass hysteria they created by making predictions about climate change and its dire consequences for our planet. But have any of their followers stopped to consider how scientists are able to predict a global catastrophe in the distant future without being able to make accurate short-term predictions?

For the last two years, scientists were predicting high hurricane activity in the United States. Yet, according to David Demming, writing in the Washington Times last year, "...neither the intensity nor the frequency of hurricanes has increased." The article points out that "the 2007 season was the third-quietest since 1966," and that "in 2006 not a single hurricane made landfall in the U.S."

Seasonal predictions are also challenging for scientists, which might help explain why we have been consulting a groundhog for so long. I live in Buffalo, and when scientists try to forecast our summer or winter weather, they are rarely accurate. Although scientists have sophisticated maps and models and cutting-edge technology, my own predictions based on intuition and conjecture would probably be just as accurate - if not more so.

Joint Chiefs: Iran Still Aiding Iraqi Terror

Saturday, April 26, 2008 11:26 AM

WASHINGTON — Iran is ratcheting up its support for militias in Iraq, providing them with newly manufactured weapons and bringing them across the border to receive training from members of Tehran's elite Republican Guard, U.S. military officials said Friday.

Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the military is preparing to roll out evidence — such as date stamps on newly found weapons caches — that shows that recently made Iranian weapons are flowing into Iraq at a steadily increasing rate.

Mullen would not detail the evidence — which is expected to be unveiled by military leaders in Iraq as early as next week. But another senior military official said it will include mortars, rockets, small arms, roadside bombs and armor-piercing explosives — known as explosively formed penetrators or EFPs — that troops have discovered in caches in recent months.

“They are talking about what they think about the state of Israel. They are talking about destroying and wiping us from the earth.”

Black preachers devilishly connive a “theology” with a supposed biblical

Harlingen, Texas, April 24, 2008: When I read the newspaper or view the nightly television news shows I can’t help but feel almost uncontrollable anger. And the truth is, I really don’t know where that anger should be directed. I listen to my fellow citizens anguish about the price of fuel, the price of food and sticker shock at everything they want to purchase. They have great concerns about the price of gas at the local station and the cost of milk at the super market. And they blame the politicians for inaction, along with greedy farmers and Big Oil for high prices. With their next breath they are crying for more of our corn based ethanol to help lower prices at the pump. It is enough to make a rational person want to bash his or her head against the nearest hard object in complete frustration.

For the past thirty plus years we have allowed the environmental activists of the Democratic Party to, stop all forward movement in our national quest for energy independence. We know how to obtain oil from places such as Alaska, Wyoming and the Dakotas, but legislation to drill has been blocked. We know oil is waiting offshore, but we are not allowed to drill due to environmental impact, even though other nations are reaching for that same oil, just a few miles away.

We have even allowed these same activists to stop the building of new oil refineries for the past 30 years.

'Red flag' over Obama blogger – webworker flies commie banner
Campaign journalist's work appears in 'revolutionary Marxist' journal
Posted: April 26, 2008

In the same week the Obama campaign quietly removed from its official website a page managed by a fundraiser tied to the Islamic terrorist group Hamas, its official blogger has come under attack as a "hardcore Marxist" for hanging a Communist Party flag in his Harvard campus apartment and publishing in a self-professed 'revolutionary Marxist' journal.

Sam Graham-Felsen, a journalist-on-leave from The Nation, joined Obama for America in March 2007 where he works for the New Media department as the official blogger, daily presenting the campaign's public face. Now he's under fire for his reputed Marxist sympathies from bloggers at Common Ills on the left and Little Green Footballs on the right.

Graham-Felsen, according to a 2003 article in the Harvard Crimson, adorned one corner of his shared student apartment with "a Communist Party flag ... bought on their trip to Russia the summer after sophomore year."

Barack Obama made an issue of his refusal to display an American Flag pin on his lapel. He refused to distance himself from his America hating, racist, and self promoting minister, the despicable Rev. Wright. He is also known for not placing his hand over his heart when the National Anthem is played.

This is the man who wants to become the Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, leader of the free world, and role model to our children.

Please allow me to share with you the level at which our flag and anthem is honored on all our military bases. First, the flag is never displayed at night unless properly lighted. Early in the morning after sunrise, every military installation in the nation has a ceremony as the flag is hoisted. Prior to sunset, a similar ceremony is performed where the flag is brought down, and folded with great care, then stored for the night. It is never allowed to touch the ground. These ceremonies are conducted by impeccably dressed uniformed personnel and accompanied by appropriate music. During the ceremony all traffic on base is brought to a halt, again, in honor of the flag. When the flag becomes old and faded, it is retired with ceremony, and burned. Military personnel love the flag, as it is a symbol of our country, and that is what they have taken an oath to defend – to their deaths.

Israel's UN ambassador calls Carter 'a bigot'
Verena Dobnik - Associated Press Writer - 4/26/2008 6:00:00 AM

NEW YORK - Israel's ambassador to the United Nations on Thursday called former President Jimmy Carter "a bigot" for meeting with the leader of the militant Hamas movement in Syria.

Carter, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, "went to the region with soiled hands and came back with bloody hands after shaking the hand of Khaled Mashaal, the leader of Hamas," Ambassador Dan Gillerman told a luncheon briefing for reporters. The diplomat was questioned about problems facing his country during a wide-ranging discussion with reporters lasting more than an hour. The briefing was sponsored by The Israel Project, a Washington-based, media-oriented advocacy group.

The ambassador's harsh words for Carter came days after the ex-president met with Mashaal for seven hours in Damascus to negotiate a cease-fire with Gaza's Hamas rulers. Carter then called Mashaal on Monday to try to get him to agree to a one-month truce without conditions, but the Hamas leader rejected the idea.

Barack Obama has a thing for Marxists. He befriends them, listens to their counsel, and he even hires them to work in his campaign. And they seem to feel the warmth. President Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua, who led a revolution there in 1979, says Barack Obama's presidential bid is a "revolutionary" phenomenon, and Americans are "laying the foundations for a revolutionary change." A captured computer revealed that an unknown person chatted with Marxist FARC guerillas on Obama's behalf (they believed), stating he would be the next President and US policy towards Columbia would change. Frank Marshall Davis, a dear Obama friend and mentor was as a member of the Communist Party USA. Barack Obama just seems to attract Marxists.

If the people he surrounds himself with are any indication of his core beliefs, a higher capital gains tax to punish the rich, even if it diminishes actual tax revenue, may be only the beginning. Obama's Official campaign blogger, Sam Graham-Felsen, a former writer for the leftist Nation magazine and a contributor to the Socialist Viewpoint, is certainly a believer in class warfare.

The capitalist ruling class of the United States exercises a virtual dictatorship not only over American society, but also over the entire world. This capitalist class rule is the basic cause of the poverty, wars and the degradation of the natural environment.

NEW YORK - Wall Street ended its second straight winning week with a moderate advance Friday, overcoming concerns about consumer confidence and inflation.

After slumping early in the session in response to weak consumer confidence and a spike in oil prices, investors seemed to turn their attention to broader signs, including the week’s generally satisfactory earnings reports, that suggested that government efforts to steady the economy appear to be working. As more information emerges about Barack Hussein Obama—although decidedly not from the mainstream Sher Zieve media who diligently work to protect him—it has become patently obvious, to those who still have the ability to reason, that he is both a radical and a racist. It also now becomes obvious as to why Senator Obama chose the extremist Jeremiah Wright’s church. From his own pen—and contained within his books “Audacity of Hope” and “Dreams from My Father” —Obama strongly, if not unambiguously, agrees with the truly racist and anti-Semitic Wright. However, disseminating the truth about Obama is—as was to be expected from the Left—now being called “racist.” But, some in the Republican Party—most specifically John McCain—are also calling for more “gentle treatment” of this radical candidate for POTUS. Inexplicably, John McCain is even calling for the removal of Republican Ads that tell these truths about Candidate Obama.

Note to Senator McCain: Senator, it is NOT racist or “improper” to tell the truth about any candidate’s associations with terrorists, radicals and real racists. Rather, it is incumbent upon those who can to actually do it. People need to know for whom they are voting—including each candidate’s character.

The following writings belie Obama’s myriad protestations to the contrary. These are only a very few of Obama’s written comments that speak to his radical and racist views:.........

Interview of John Coleman by William F. Jasper

"Many believe that global warming is one of the most critical challenges that face our planet today. According to the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, many scientists and most environmentalists and their allies in the media and academia, uncontrolled rising temperatures will cause more frequent droughts, food shortages, melting polar ice caps and coastal flooding, and the extinction of polar bears and many other species. They claim that modern, industrialized society is causing global warming, and they predict climatic calamity including frequent category five and numerous other severe storms resulting in great suffering.

"After years of study, John Coleman is convinced that none of this is true. And thousands of scientists and other meteorologists hold this same dissenting view.

At issue is a proposal that would require every radio station to take programming advice from community advisory boards representative of the area's population.

Advocates of Christian programming say that would require Christian broadcasters to seek advice from non-Christians and even those opposed to the Christian message. Some radio stations fear organized groups of atheists, for instance, could demand representation on the new FCC-mandated advisory boards that would factor into licensing decisions.

The Democratic National Committee has sparked outrage among veterans and others across the internet by running an anti-John McCain ad that shows U.S. soldiers being blown up.

After the new ad’s voice-over castigated McCain for suggesting that the United States may stay in Iraq for “maybe 100” years, the footage becomes shocking.

The DNC ad then shows an explosive device detonating near two soldiers standing beside a palm tree. The two soldiers disappear in an explosive fireball. The video also shows images of burning vehicles.

Wright, answering reporters' questions after a series of media appearances over the weekend, first was asked about his claim the U.S. was responsible for the 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington.

"If you heard the whole sermon, first of all, you heard that I was quoting the ambassador from Iraq," Wright began. "But Number Two, to quote the Bible: 'Be not deceived. God is not mocked, for whatsoever you sew, that you shall – '"

Economy limps ahead at a 0.6 percent pace in first quarter, better pace than expected

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The bruised economy limped through the first quarter of this year at only 0.6 percent as housing and credit problems forced people and businesses alike to hunker down.

The country's economic growth during January through March was the same as in the final three months of last year, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday. The statistic did not meet what economists consider the classic definition of a recession, which is a retraction of the economy. This means that although the economy is stuck in a rut, it is still managing to grow, even if modestly.

Many analysts were predicting that the gross domestic product (GDP) would weaken a bit more -- to a pace of just 0.5 percent -- in the first quarter. Earlier this year, some economists thought the economy would actually lurch into reverse during the opening quarter. Now, they say they believe that will likely happen during the current April-to-June period.

Who knew that the greatest threat to his presidential campaign would come from the preacher who married him, baptized him and prayed with him? Barack Obama should have known. That's who. Take that judgment and shove it on a pretty campaign poster.

"Yes, we can"? Try "Yes, you should have."

Clinton, who has never been a guest on O'Reilly's show, is hoping to build momentum going into the May 6 primaries in Indiana and North Carolina.

President and 50 State Governors Declare May 1 National Day of Prayer
"We recognize our dependence on the Almighty," says President Bush

By Michael Baggot

WASHINGTON, D.C., (LifeSiteNews.com) - [Today], the nation that claims that its citizens are "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights" will officially recognize the Source of their life and liberty with the 57th National Day of Prayer (NDP).

"America trusts in the abiding power of prayer and asks for the wisdom to discern God's will in times of joy and of trial," stated President George W. Bush in his official proclamation of the day. "As we observe this National Day of Prayer, we recognize our dependence on the Almighty, we thank Him for the many blessings He has bestowed upon us, and we put our country's future in His hands."

The National Day of Prayer was established in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman and is normally observed on the first Thursday of May.

http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/apr/08043005.html

Official Policy Statement on Participation of "Non-Judeo-Christian" groups in the National Day of Prayer:

The National Day of Prayer Task Force was a creation of the National Prayer Committee for the expressed purpose of organizing and promoting prayer observances conforming to a Judeo-Christian system of values. People with other theological and philosophical views are, of course, free to organize and participate in activities that are consistent with their own beliefs. This diversity is what Congress intended when it designated the Day of Prayer, not that every faith and creed would be homogenized, but that all who sought to pray for this nation would be encouraged to do so in any way deemed appropriate. It is that broad invitation to the American people that led, in our case, to the creation of the Task Force and the Judeo-Christian principles on which it is based.

Wall Street mood swing: Gloom gives way to (premature?) optimism
By Vikas Bajaj
Published: May 2, 2008

Main Street may be struggling, but Wall Street is on a bit of a roll.

Despite a drumbeat of bad economic news, the stock market is up — almost 11 percent in the last few weeks. Junk bonds, those risky corporate IOUs, are rallying. The value of financial shares, bank loans, tricky credit derivatives — up, up, up. Many on Wall Street, the epicenter of the credit mess, seems to think that the worst is over. For the first time in months, analysts and executives sound upbeat again. Many of them see a broad, sustained recovery in both the economy and the financial markets coming in second half of this year, a prediction some market strategists call hopeful at best.

For now, policy makers are echoing the mood on Wall Street. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson Jr. said in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Thursday that "we are closer to the end of this problem than we are to the beginning." A report from the Bank of England, meantime, concluded that mortgage securities, which have been at the heart of the financial troubles, probably have fallen too far. The central bank said prices of such securities should "improve gradually in the coming months."

Financial stocks and the broader market surged on Thursday as the dollar strengthened and oil prices fell for the third day in a row. The Standard & Poor's 500 index closed up 1.7 percent, to 1,409.34; the Dow Jones industrial average notched a 89.87-point gain, to 13,010; and the Nasdaq composite jumped 2.8 percent. Another day or two like that, and those market benchmarks will be in the black for the year.

Bush Says Economy Is Going to `Come On'

Stocks rise and Dow crosses 13,000 as dollar advances

The Dow Jones industrials cross 13,000 as dollar soars and optimism rises about economy

NEW YORK (AP) -- Wall Street shot higher Thursday as investors, while anticipating another dismal jobs report Friday, viewed the rising dollar and falling oil prices as promising signs for the economy. The Dow Jones industrial average soared nearly 190 points to close above 13,000 for the first time since Jan. 3.

The dollar jumped on better-than-expected economic data and the Federal Reserve's apparent resolve to monitor inflation. The Commerce Department said consumer spending rose 0.4 percent in March, more than predicted, and the Institute for Supply Management said U.S. manufacturing contracted in April by a bit less than anticipated.

The readings were not all positive -- consumer spending ticked higher mainly due to rising energy and food prices. The ISM's report also indicated that companies are hurting from climbing costs.

Employers cut fewer jobs in April, jobless rate falls

By JEANNINE AVERSA
AP Economics Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Employers cut far fewer jobs in April than in recent months and the unemployment rate dropped to 5 percent, a better-than-expected showing that nonetheless reveals strains in the nation's labor market.

For the fourth month in a row, the economy lost jobs, the Labor Department reported Friday. But in April the losses totaled 20,000, an improvement from the 81,000 reductions in payrolls logged in March. Job losses for both February and March turned out to be a bit deeper than previously reported.

The latest snapshot of the nationwide employment conditions—while clearly still weak—was better than many economists were anticipating. They were bracing for job cuts of 75,000 and for the unemployment rate to climb to 5.2 percent.

Good news for America , bad news for Democrats

Defying expectations of big job losses, the just-released April jobs report from the Department of Labor shows that only 20,000 jobs were lost last month, far less than the 81,000 jobs lost in March. The unemployment rate actually declined from 5.1% to 5%.
Growth is reckoned at 0.6% in 1st quarter, not a decline in GDP as projected. This indicates we are NOT in a recession.

Rick Moran comments:

Perception is what counts in politics. And the MSM and Dems have successfully made the case that "we are already in a recession" and 70% of the country believes it.

Futures Traders Bet on Dollar Gain For First Time Since 2005

May 2 (Bloomberg) -- Futures traders are betting for the first time since December 2005 that the dollar will gain against the euro.

The difference in the number of wagers by hedge funds and other large speculators on a decline in the euro compared with those on a gain, known as net shorts, was 21,315 on April 29, compared with net longs of 18,907 a week earlier, figures from the Washington-based Commodity Futures Trading Commission show.

``The dollar has already turned against the euro,'' said Benedikt Germanier, a currency strategist at UBS AG in Stamford, Connecticut. ``The dollar will go to $1.52 in a straight line.''

Hamptons home sales have plummeted since the first quarter of last year, but brokers say this summer’s rentals are stronger than ever, fueled by an influx of international tourists lured by the beaches and the weak dollar.

“We have had an astronomical rental year,” the president of Town & Country Real Estate, Judi Desiderio, said, adding that her firm has rented some 19% of its properties this year to international clients, compared with just 5% last year. “Main Street is going to sound like the lobby of the U.N.”

S&P looks for stocks in BW's Most Innovative Companies list that carry its highest investment rankings. Among them: Apple, GE, and Toyota

Which is the most innovative company in the world? According to BusinessWeek, the answer is Apple. The Cupertino (Calif.) technology giant topped BusinessWeek's list of the 25 most innovative companies, published in its Apr. 28 issue.

BusinessWeek arrived at its 2008 list through an electronic survey, conducted by Boston Consulting Group, of executives in the 2,500 largest global corporations by market value. BW also added three financial measures. For 2008, votes cast in the BusinessWeek-BCG survey got an 80% weighting, while three-year revenue and margin growth each got 5% and stock returns were weighted 10%.

S&P went over the list of the top 25 companies to find the ones that had high scores under one of its own key measures: S&P STARS (STock Appreciation Ranking System). We looked for outfits that carried rankings of 4 STARS (buy) or 5 STARS (strong buy), suggesting S&P equity analysts expect them to outperform the S&P 500 index over the next 12 months on a total return basis and rise in price on an absolute basis. (S&P and BusinessWeek are both units of The McGraw-Hill Companies (MHP).)

Otis Moss III, lauded this week by Obama as a "wonderful young pastor," also recently refused to deny claims by Wright that the U.S. government was involved in distributing illegal drugs to minorities or spreading the AIDS virus to blacks.

Buffett Says Credit Crisis Ebbs for Wall Street Firms (Update4)

By Josh P. Hamilton and Betty Liu

May 3 (Bloomberg) -- Warren Buffett, chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., said the global credit crunch has eased for bankers, and the Federal Reserve probably averted more failures by helping to rescue Bear Stearns Cos.

``The worst of the crisis in Wall Street is over,'' Buffett said today on Bloomberg Television. ``In terms of people with individual mortgages, there's a lot of pain left to come.'' Buffett was interviewed before the Omaha, Nebraska-based company's annual meeting, attended by about 31,000 people.

Buffett, the world's richest man according to Forbes magazine, said the Fed acted properly when it arranged a $2.4 billion buyout in March of New York-based Bear Stearns by JPMorgan Chase & Co. The billionaire said he turned down the opportunity because he lacked enough capital and time to craft a solution. More failures and wider panic may have resulted if the regulators didn't halt the run on Bear Stearns, he said.

CHICAGO (AP) - Federal prosecutors have rested their case in the corruption trial of a prominent political fundraiser in Illinois.

Antoin "Tony" Rezko is charged with scheming to get a $1.5 million bribe from a contractor who wanted state permission to build a hospital. He's also accused of squeezing kickbacks from money management firms seeking to do business with a state pension fund.

Chief defense counsel Joseph Duffy is expected to make a motion for an immediate acquittal from the judge before beginning his own case. The prosecution rested Monday.

JERUSALEM – Otis Moss, the man slated to become the new chief pastor at the Trinity United Church of Christ, referenced a rap song during one of his recent sermons that includes among its lyrics "F--- America" and states the U.S. is "still with triple K" – referring to the white supremacist Ku Klux Klan.

Moss was lauded last week by Sen. Barack Obama as a "wonderful young pastor," and an acceptable choice to replace retiring pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright, whose controversial remarks landed the presidential candidate in hot water.

Among some of Wright's previous sermons quoted by scores of news media outlets, the pastor notoriously exclaimed "God **** America" and called his country the "U.S. of KKK-A."

Contrary to the perception of editorial writers at great newspapers like the New York Tiimes, defending American sovereignty is not a expression of racist hatred. In fact, it (defending America) is essential if this republic is to survive.

Acting in the best interests of America means, among other things, preventing further invasions from third world illegal aliens. It also means deporting those already here.

Liz Sidoti and Calvin Woodward - Associated Press Writers - 5/6/2008 7:45:00 AM

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Voters in Indiana and North Carolina crowded polling places Tuesday as they sought to settle the largest remaining contests in the Democratic presidential nomination struggle between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton that has dragged improbably into spring.

In Indiana, Marion County Clerk Beth White said many voters already were in line when polls opened at 6:00 a.m."We really do feel today is going to be a heavy voting day, and our inspectors are ready," said White, the clerk in Indiana's most populous county.

Even before the opening of polls at 6:30 a.m. in North Carolina, there were signs of record turnout. Nearly half a million people had already cast early and absentee ballots as of Monday -- more than half the total number of voters who cast a ballot during the 2004 primary. "I can't remember a primary that had this much excitement," said Gary Bartlett, director of the North Carolina Board of Elections. "It's truly fun to be part of making history, and I hope that this encourages voters to participate in all primary elections."(See related video report)

RALEIGH, N.C. - Bill Clinton arrived an hour and 15 minutes late to his last campaign stop of the day in Raleigh, N.C., but he arrived to cheers. It was his ninth stop of the day, and his 15th in two days, stumping for his wife in mostly rural areas of a state where she continues to trail by 5-7 percentage points.

“This is my 49th town in North Carolina, and I thank all of you for helping Hillary,” Clinton told a crowd of several hundred outside Hillary headquarters in the state’s capital. His voice rasped slightly in what was either a genuine manifestation of his dedication or a calculated aural reminder of another last-minute push he made through traditionally Republican territories when he famously lost his voice on the way to a 1992 victory.

YANGON, Myanmar (AP) - Hungry crowds of survivors stormed the few shops that opened in Myanmar's stricken Irrawaddy delta, where food and international aid has been scarce since a devastating cyclone killed more than 22,000 people, the U.N. said Wednesday.

Corpses floated in salty flood waters and witnesses said survivors tried desperately to reach dry ground on boats using blankets as sails. The U.N. said some 1 million people were homeless in the Southeast Asian country, also known as Burma.

"Basically the entire lower delta region is under water," said Richard Horsey, Bangkok-based spokesman for the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid.

Well, it's official. Last week, CBS News/New York Times released polling figures indicating that 56 percent of potential voters polled believed that the news media has spent too much time covering the Barack Obama/Rev. Wright controversy. In the poll, 60 percent of voters and nearly 70 percent of Democratic primary voters said they approved of the way Obama handled the situation.

So it's over … right?

As an employer of mine used to say: "Always consider the source." Consider as well that neither the press (many of whom are Obamaphiles) nor pundits nor prominent Americans of varying stripes seem to agree with these august bastions of truth, justice and accuracy that the Wright issue is a dead horse.

I recall sitting in a New York courtroom in 1985 during the midmorning criminal plea hearings. The procession of detainees was almost exclusively males under 30. It was a near 50-50 black-white split, with a smattering of Latinos.....

NEW YORK (CBS) ― The Rev. Al Sharpton and more than 200 others were arrested Wednesday amid a series of protests throughout the city, part of a response to the acquittals of three New York City undercover detectives in the 50-shot killing of Sean Bell.

Hundreds took to the streets in Manhattan and Brooklyn as part of the citywide "slowdown" effort led by Sharpton and his National Action Network. Police arrested those who took part in acts of civil disobedience by blocking the streets and entrances to the Triborough, Manhattan, and Brooklyn bridges.

Sharpton was arrested without incident at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge, along with Bell's fiancé, Nicole Paultre Bell, and the two shooting victims who survived, Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman.

Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 5/8/2008 8:00:00 AM

Barack Obama's alleged socialist and communist connections will be the highlight of a planned news conference to be held in Washington in late May.

Veteran conservative journalist and media critic Cliff Kincaid says the news briefing scheduled for May 22 is not designed to support or oppose any one presidential candidate, but rather to shed light on parts of Senator Obama's (D-Illinois) past that the mainstream news media has chosen to ignore.

Kincaid, president of the group America's Survival, argues the media's "cheerleading" for Obama has gotten so loud that the American public has been largely kept in the dark about his ties to some questionable characters. Kincaid says they plan to release two reports that will shed light on those questionable connections.

NEW YORK (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Thursday that Republican John McCain was "losing his bearings" for repeatedly suggesting the Islamic terrorist group Hamas preferred Obama for president.

That brought an angry response from McCain's campaign, which accused Obama of trying to make an issue of McCain's age.

Age is a touchy subject for McCain, who turns 72 in August and would be the oldest person to be sworn in as president if elected.

When Maine officials tried to warn residents of the dangers of this winter's near-record snowpack, Big Media slanted the story, hampering efforts to warn folks of the danger. "Statewide water content readings from this week's snow survey are some of the highest since 1969, the 'snow season' of record, and in some locations higher than the record." In case there was any doubt, the banner headline on the release reads: "Spring Flood Potential Elevated Due to Near-Record Snowfall."

However, the lead in the Associated Press story in the next day's edition of the major regional daily, the Boston Globe, downplayed the threat posed by the snowpack, referring to it as just "above-average," and shifting the emphasis to concern about an approaching storm.

Bulletins at Obama's Church Carry Their Own Controversy
By Fred Lucas
CNSNews.com Staff Writer
May 09, 2008

(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) recently said his relationship with his long-time pastor and friend Rev. Jeremiah Wright "changed" after what Obama called the clergyman's "divisive and destructive" remarks at the National Press Club. Later, however, Obama stressed his loyalty to the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, where he has been a member for many years.

Articles published in the Trinity United Church of Christ bulletin in 2007 carried controversial comments written by people other than Jeremiah Wright. Those comments included the claim that Israel worked with South Africa to build an "ethnic bomb" that would kill blacks and Arabs, that the Pentagon was training Latin Americans to be terrorists, and that the TV networks are run by right-wing racists.

On Sunday, May 4, Obama told NBC's Tim Russert, on "Meet the Press," that he was still a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and said of the Wright controversy, "I think that the American people understand that when I joined Trinity United Church of Christ, I was committing not to Pastor Wright. I was committing to a church and I was committing to Christ. And it is a wonderful church."

The Real Meaning of Mother's Day
By Linda Chavez
Friday, May 9, 2008

Remember when Mother's Day was a simple affair? The kids woke Mom up with breakfast in bed -- Froot Loops floating on a sea of slightly pink milk -- and handmade cards. Everyone was especially nice to one another so Mom could enjoy some "peace and quiet," commodities in short supply in most mothers' lives. Maybe Dad cooked dinner or everyone went out to a restaurant, the kind with endless supplies of soft, warm rolls that filled everybody up before the overcooked roast beef soaked in brown gravy arrived. All mothers were "Queen for a Day" in those less-harried times.

Maybe it's just me, but Mother's Day seems to have become a much more complicated affair these days. First, there's the choice of deciding whose mother we're celebrating. In multi-generation families, especially those who live in relatively close proximity, are adult children obligated to spend time with their own mothers, even when they are moms (or married to moms) themselves? Let's see, in my family alone, I count eight mothers: mine, my husband's, my two daughters-in-law, their mothers, and, in one case, their mother's mother, plus me. You need a professional logistics expert just to arrange a schedule for each mom in this crew to spend time enjoying her own Mother's Day while fulfilling her obligations to honor the other mothers in the family.

I've been fretting about this all week, when suddenly I realized: Mother's Day isn't really for moms at all; it's for children. When the kids are young, they're eager to show Mom they can take care of her, just as she takes care of them every other day of the year. When they get older, even when they become mothers (or their wives do), the phone calls, cards, or visits are a way to say, "I still remember all you did for me."

"You would think that of all the holidays of the year, this organization that kills the babies of more than 255,000 mothers a year, would find little to celebrate on Mother's Day. But you would be wrong," the group said.

“She knew enough to pretend she was dead,” Isbell said. “After the perpetrator thought she was dead, then he raped her. This is a very sick individual.”

The individual is Francisco Barbosa, aka Francisco Sanchez, a 35-year-old illegal immigrant who had been working construction in Monroe County. Isbell said Barbosa/Sanchez had been staying, off and on, at his brother’s house, in the victim’s neighborhood.

Barack Obama, allegedly decent guy and agent of "change" in Washington, requested an earmark in 2006 for $1 million taxpayer dollars for the hospital where his wife works. Said hospital, by the way, gave Michelle Obama a huge raise (nearly $200,000, more than doubling her salary) in 2005 after Barack got elected to the United States Senate. Now, I know that there are lots of ways to talk about transactions like this involving public officials - quid pro quo, etc., but I prefer to call a crook a crook and just say that we're dealing with good, old fashioned, public corruption here.

Clinton Hopes West Virginia Will Deliver Big Win for Long-Shot Bid
by Associated Press
Monday, May 12, 2008

WASHINGTON — Barack Obama appeared poised to clinch the Democratic presidential nomination within a matter of weeks thanks to a wave of superdelegate support, while rival Hillary Rodham Clinton hoped an expected lopsided win in West Virginia’s primary Tuesday would help bolster her long-shot bid. Obama has picked up 26 superdelegates within the last week, putting him mathematically within reach of the Democratic presidential nomination by the end of the primary season on June 3 — even if he loses half of the remaining six contests.

Neither Obama nor Clinton can reach the 2,025 delegates needed to secure the nomination just through the final contests in five states and Puerto Rico. The means the superdelegates — the nearly 800 party leaders and elected officials who may vote for whichever candidate they choose regardless of the state primary or caucus results — are essential to capturing the nomination.

Clinton’s best chance to slow Obama is to buy herself more time by moving back the finish line. She will get that chance May 31 when the Democratic National Committee’s rules panel considers proposals to seat delegates that had been stripped from Florida and Michigan after they violated party rules by holding their primaries too early. If the delegates are reinstated that would increase the number of delegates needed to get the nomination to 2,209.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Turmoil in financial markets has eased somewhat, but the situation is still "far from normal," Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Tuesday.

The central bank has taken a number of unconventional steps—especially since March, when the credit crisis intensified—to help squeezed banks and big investment firms overcome problems and try to get credit flowing more freely again.

Those efforts appear to be paying off and "have contributed to some improvement in financing markets," the Fed chief said in prepared remarks delivered via satellite to a financial markets conference sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta in Sea Island, Ga.

One in Five Democrats Set to Defect to McCain, Polls Show

CNSNews.com Staff Writer

(CNSNews.com) - A string of polls conducted by the Suffolk University Political Research Center over the past month--in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and, now, West Virginia--show that roughly 20 percent of Democratic primary voters are ready to vote for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in November if their choice candidate isn't the nominee.

The latest survey, which questioned 600 likely voters in Tuesday's West Virginia Democratic presidential primary, shows Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) trouncing Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), the national front-runner, by 36 points in West Virginia, 60 percent to 24 percent.

Obama may be his party's presumptive nominee, but the Suffolk University poll indicates it is unlikely he can carry this battleground state that Democrats have won in eight of the last 12 presidential elections.

Cadet said a lot of previous research has focused on the effects of marijuana on the brain. His team looked elsewhere in the body, measuring blood protein levels in 18 long-term, heavy marijuana users and 24 other people who did not use the drug.

Tomorrow is the West Virginia primary. Many political experts are expecting a record turnout. West Virginia voters said they’re being lured by the excitement of the campaign, the closeness of the race, and the promise of free squirrel meat.

Clinton is projected winner in W.Va., NBC says
Obama loses by wide margin, but adds to his superdelegate lead

NBC News
updated 18 minutes ago

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton was projected to win the West Virginia primary Tuesday, NBC News said, beating Sen. Barack Obama by a wide margin even as her rival edged closer to the Democratic presidential nomination by picking up more superdelegates.

The loss did not threaten Obama's lead in the race for the nomination. He conceded defeat in advance in the state, looking ahead to the Oregon primary later in the month and the campaign against John McCain.

"This is our chance to build a new majority of Democrats and independents and Republicans who know that four more years of George Bush just won't do," he said at a campaign appearance in Missouri, which looms as a battleground state in the fall.

Terry McAuliffe, campaign chairman for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), said Tuesday that the former first lady is hamstrung by a biased media.

“Clearly it has been a biased media, no question about it,” McAuliffe said on Fox News. When asked how much of the mainstream media is “in the tank” for Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.), who leads Clinton in the race for the Democratic nomination, McAuliffe estimated that about 90 percent of the media favor Obama.

“It is what it is. We’re not complaining,” he stated. “We have to deal with the hand we’re dealt with.”

The Obama Change We Really Can Believe In
By Peggy Shapiro
Barack Obama's call to action is "Change we can believe in." I would love to believe it, but until now I haven't even been able to understand it. What is going to change? With his latest about face on direct talks with Iran's Ahmadinejad, Obama has finally clarified what he is going to change: his opinion. From terror to funding for tots, where there's controversy and two sides to be wooed, there is the Obama about-face.

On unconditional presidential meeting with terror-sponsoring states: Yes to No

This week, Obama's key foreign policy advisor, Susan E. Rice, told the New York Times that Obama never claimed he would be willing to meet "unconditionally" with Iran's president Mr. Ahmadinejad. Dr. Rice said that Obama would not meet at the presidential level with this Iran or any other so-called "rogue" state without the preparation to use such a meeting as the candidate and his sloganleverage for change. In fact, it was only right-wing machinations or imagination that "distorted and reframed" Obama's views.

Another Palestinian official also said he recently heard from U.S. politicians Rice is likely to be McCain's running mate.

Obama Keeping Enemies Close? Hardly, He's ONE of Them!
Tuesday, 13 May 2008
By Warner Todd Huston
Abe Greenwald over at Commentary Magazine had a blog post today that I couldn’t disagree with more. Warner Todd HustonWith the recent news that Robert Malley finally exited the Obama campaign over his pastbaracktrojanhorse anti-Israeli ideology. Greenwald correctly states that the sort of anti-Jewish rhetoric that Malley and his own associates indulge in have no place in an American presidential contest (or any other contest for that matter), but where Greenwald goes wrong is to posit that Obama has somehow purposefully decided to keep “political enemies” close to him.

“Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.” When it comes to following Don Corleone’s sage advice, Barack Obama is a natural. Sure, he’s tight with Ted Kennedy and Bill Richardson, but they didn’t baptize his kids (like Jeremiah Wright), or advise him on foreign policy (like Robert Malley). Obama’s talent for cleaving to his political enemies is definitely a “change” from politics as usual. But is it change we can believe in?

It is true that Obama has been linked to many people with extremist positions. There is the racist Reverend Wright who wants God to “damn America.” The anti-American, bomb maker – literal bombs, not metaphorical ones – William Ayers who has never apologized for his intent to murder his fellow Americans. Of course, Ayers wife, Bernadine Dohrn, a killer like her hubby. There is Obama’s tech advisor Larry Lessig who is fond of using anti-Christian slurs to introduce his lectures, and his chief campaign blogger Sam Graham-Felsen who is an admirer of communists and an activist for Parisian labor strikes, not to mention his angry, bitter wife, Michelle, who can’t find it in herself to be proud of the US. And there have been a slew of others large and small in his campaign that hold extremist, unAmerican ideas and who harbor hatred for the very country that Barack seems to want to become president.

Barack Obama's government gospel
Posted: May 14, 2008
1:00 am Eastern

Two months ago in downtown Philadelphia near Independence Hall, Sen. Barack Obama expressed loyal support for his pastor of 20 years, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, even after Wright had, in Obama's words, used "incendiary language" in his sermons that had the potential to "widen the racial divide" and "denigrate both the greatness and the goodness of our nation." While Obama insisted that "race is an issue ... that this nation cannot afford to ignore right now," he also stated firmly, "I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community."

But after a little more than five weeks – and after several more publicized controversial statements by Rev. Wright – Obama changed his tune, denouncing Wright's comments as "appalling" and "ridiculous." Obama claimed he was "outraged by the comments that were made, and saddened over the spectacle that we [have seen]. Reverend Wright does not speak for me; he does not speak for my campaign."

Rev. Wright's bizarre statements, however, reflect the anti-American positions he consistently preached from the pulpit at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago during Obama's 20 years as a member there. Wright has not only compared the United States military to terrorists, but he also blamed our country for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and has even accused the U.S. government of targeting the black community with HIV. Only after Wright's sermons and opinions became widely discussed did Obama suddenly disagree with his remarks and describe them as "divisive" and "destructive." Candidate Obama was particularly "angered" by one of Wright's more personal statements: that Obama's sudden disassociation is nothing but "political posturing."

Poll: McCain Strong Despite Economy, Bush Ratings

Tuesday, May 13, 2008 1:00 PM

WASHINGTON -- Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain remains a strong candidate despite a gloomy national mood and record low ratings for President George W. Bush, according to a Washington Post-ABC New poll released on Monday.

Weighed down by the unpopular Iraq war and a faltering economy, Bush's job performance rating slipped to a career low 31 percent, the poll found.

Eighty-two percent of Americans now say the United States is seriously on the wrong track, up 10 points in the last year, with a third of respondents citing the economy and jobs as their top voting issue.

The Global Warming Tutorial Media Should be Required to Take

Do you ever get the feeling the reason most people in the media have bought into Nobel Laureate Al Gore's global warming myth is that they are largely uneducated in matters of science, and regardless of the volume of information available at their fingertips via the Internet, such pompous folks are too lazy to take the time to do any research that might challenge their dogma?

After all, the depth of most press members' studies regarding climate matters is having watched the schlockumentary "An Inconvenient Truth" which is full of more holes than Paul McCartney's roof (kudos if you get the pun without clicking on the link!).

As such, assuming the answer to the introductory question is a resounding "Yes," might I suggest media be required to take the following tutorial offered by Professor Bob Carter of James Cook University in Australia (part one embedded right).

California Supreme Court rules in favor of homosexual 'marriage'
Lisa Leff - Associated Press Writer - 5/15/2008 12:20:00 Bookmark and Share

SAN FRANCISCO - The California Supreme Court has overturned a ban on same-sex "marriage," paving the way for California to become the second state where homosexual residents can marry.

The justices released the 4-3 decision today, saying that domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage. (see a OneNewsNow special on this decision)

Outside the courthouse, homosexual marriage supporters cried and cheered as news spread of the decision.

Allie Martin - OneNewsNow - 5/15/2008 2:40:00 Bookmark and Share

Christian attorney Steve Crampton says the California Supreme Court abandoned the rule of law and common sense with its decision today that re-defined marriage.

By a 4-3 decision, California's high court overturned a ban on same-sex "marriage." The majority decision, written by Chief Justice Ron George, said that domestic partnerships -- which are legal in the Golden State -- are not a good enough substitute for marriage. (see a OneNewsNow special on this decision)

The case began in February 2004 when Gavin Newsome, then mayor of San Francisco, began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The state Supreme Court halted the weddings a month later, and in 2006 a state appeals court upheld the law defining marriage as only between a man and a woman.

California Court Strips Children of Right to Mother and Father
By Terence P. Jeffrey
CNSNews.com Editor in Chief
May 16, 2008

(CNSNews.com) - In Thursday's 4-3 decision legalizing same-sex marriage, the California Supreme Court stripped children of the right to be raised by a mother and a father.

Most of the media coverage of the California Supreme Court's decision has focused on the court's declaration that there is a right to same-sex marriage. The ruling invalidated California's Proposition 22, a state ballot initiative that passed with 61 percent of the vote in 2000, and which banned same-sex marriage in the state.

But the California Supreme Court decision goes beyond simply giving same-sex couples the right to call their unions a "marriage." It also strips children of the right not to be artificially conceived or adopted by people other than a mother and a father.

DeGeneres was taping the episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Thursday, the day the state's high court struck down California laws against gay marriage, and it was to air Friday, a person close to the production said.

The person, who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Conservative group plans to ask California court to put its ruling on hold

SAN FRANCISCO - Even as same-sex couples across California begin making plans to tie the knot, opponents are redoubling their efforts to make sure wedding bells never again ring for gay couples in the nation's most populous state.

A conservative group said it would ask California's Supreme Court to postpone putting its Thursday decision legalizing gay marriage into effect until after the fall election. That's when voters will likely have a chance to weigh in on a proposed amendment to California's constitution that would bar same-sex couples from getting married.

If the court does not put its ruling on hold, gay marriages could begin in California in as little as 30 days, the time it typically takes for the justices' opinions to become final.

'Gay marriage' attempts more media infiltration
Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 5/15/2008

Kristen Fyfe of the Culture and Media Institute claims ABC made some rather shady history in the season finale of the popular television series Brothers and Sisters.

"This is the first time an American network has had two prominent characters who are homosexual who go through a commitment ceremony," Fyfe explains. "Obviously in the show they don't live in Massachusetts, otherwise they would have had a wedding -- but it had all the bells and whistles of an actual marriage ceremony."

According to Fyfe, there is a hint that the show will deal with the homosexual pair becoming a family next season. "One of the actors in the program has indicated that he'd like to see the writers take it down the adoption road, which opens up a whole other host of issues that can be addressed in the context of promoting gay families. And interestingly, that will happen as the fall election season is heating up," the media analyst points out.

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict, speaking a day after a California court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage, firmly restated on Friday the Roman Catholic Church's position that only unions between a man and a woman are moral.

Benedict made no mention of the California decision in his speech to family groups from throughout Europe, but stressed the Church's position several times.

"The union of love, based on matrimony between a man and a woman, which makes up the family, represents a good for all society that can not be substituted by, confused with, or compared to other types of unions," he said.

Mexican Immigrants Do Not Assimilate Quickly in US, Study Finds
By Pete Winn
CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer
May 15, 2008

(CNSNews.com) - Immigrants to the United States are doing a good job of assimilating, with immigrants from Cuba, Vietnam, and the Philippines leading the way in adapting to an American way of life, according to a new study. But the one group not assimilating well is Mexicans, apparently because so many of them are in the country illegally.

Excluding Mexican immigrants, the assimilation picture of the 21st century looks better than some might think, as the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, a conservative think tank in New York City, documented in its report, Measuring Immigrant Assimilation in the United States , released Tuesday.

Study author Jacob Vigdor of Duke University points out that there is no question that today's immigrants are dissimilar from the native-born population when they first arrive.

WASHINGTON - Construction of new homes posted the biggest increase in more than two years in April. While it was a rare spot of good news for the housing market, analysts said it’s far too soon to declare an end to the prolonged slump.

The Commerce Department reported Friday that housing construction rose by 8.2 percent in April to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.03 million units. Building of single-family homes continued to weaken, however. The growth came from a big jump in apartment construction.

Analysts predicted the surprising rebound in April would be temporary given the headwinds builders are still confronting, from slumping sales to soaring home foreclosures.

Pastor Hagee -- founder and national chairman of the group Christians United for Israel -- recently apologized to Catholics for bringing up the anti-Semitic past of their church and suggesting that Catholic anti-Semitism shaped Adolf Hitler's views of Jews. And when Hagee endorsed Senator McCain (R-Arizona) in late February, the Catholic League demanded that McCain repudiate the Texas televangelist.

But in an apologetic letter to the Catholic League, Hagee wrote: "Out of a desire to advance a greater unity among Catholics and evangelicals in promoting the common good, I want to express my deep regret for any comments that Catholics have found hurtful."

In an interview with New York Times columnist David Brooks , Barack Obama was asked about the statement he released regarding the situation in Lebanon. Specifically this statement was in issue:

all those who have influence with Hezbollah must press them to stand down immediately. It's time to engage in diplomatic efforts to help build a new Lebanese consensus that focuses on electoral reform, an end to the current corrupt patronage system, and the development of the economy that provides for a fair distribution of services, opportunities and employment.

This statement was met with criticism for flying in the face of reality, for having a surreal air about it especially when that air was already filled with smoke from the ravages of Hezbollah attacks against the Lebanese government and the Sunni and Christian communities. His solutions seemed more akin to suggestions offered in civics and good government courses rather than geopolitcal and strategy courses.

In an unsigned, unanimous opinion, the Appellate Division, 1st Department, held in In re Brian L., 1407, that while Social Services Law §398(6)(c) requires the agency to provide "necessary medical and surgical care" to all children under its aegis, regardless of whether or not they receive Medicaid, Family Court does not have the power to order that a child receive certain care.

"[S]ince such an order would denigrate from ACS' statutory authority," the panel reversed a 2007 Family Court order directing that Brian L. receive the sex reassignment surgery that two medical doctors, along with mental health professionals, had deemed medically necessary.

Summer May Bring a Turning Point for Stock Market

Saturday, May 17, 2008

NEW YORK -- After nine months of turmoil that started with the collapse of the subprime mortgage market, Wall Street appears to be at a turning point of sorts.

The data of the past few weeks have given investors some hope that the worst of the credit crisis has passed, that the economy isn't losing jobs at a dangerous rate and that inflation isn't out of control. The result has been relative calm in the financial markets, enabling the major indexes to reach levels they hadn't seen since early in the year - including the Dow Jones industrials' brief return earlier this month to the 13,000 mark.

Analysts say data to be released in June and July will determine whether Wall Street extends its recovery or backtracks. If it moves higher, it will break an old habit of pulling back during the summer doldrums - and some analysts believe this may indeed come to pass.

Boy stands up for Old Glory

Jeffrey Sahli, 14, has been raising and lowering the American flag each school day for the past two years at Evergreen Middle School.

Brian Lehmann / Special To The Rocky

Jeffrey Sahli noticed the faded, fraying American flag outside Evergreen Middle School soon after he started eighth grade last year.

"I thought the flag wasn't being treated with flag etiquette. I thought I needed to do that," the 14-year-old said. "I wanted to serve my country and I thought, heck, I'll start right here."

With the principal's permission, he began taking care of Old Glory. Every school day he carefully hoists the U.S. and Colorado flags before classes and takes them down before heading home. He folds the Colorado flag into a neat square, the U.S. flag into a triangle, and places them in a cabinet in the office.

A new study shows that people of faith in America have a huge heart in terms of giving to Third World countries -- and the study cites a surprising dollar figure.

Carol Adelman of the Hudson Institute cites the information in a study done with Notre Dame University. "We didn't realize it would be as large as it was, and we came out with a number of $8.8 billion worth of goods and services that churches are giving overseas to developing countries," she points out.

That figure represents nearly 40 percent of the foreign aid provided by the United States to the same region -- and the money from churches is apparently doing a lot of good, says Adelman.

Brownback Helps McCain Woo Catholics

WASHINGTON -- When Pope Benedict XVI visited the nation's capital last month, Sen. Sam Brownback did a little preaching to Catholics himself -- the gospel according to John McCain.

Once McCain's rival for the White House, the Kansas Republican is helping to spearhead McCain's effort to woo Catholic voters.

With Democrats flush with advantages, McCain hopes that Brownback's street cred among religious conservatives could help tip a swing state or two his way.

Mark Levin Calls for MSNBC to Suspend Keith Olbermann

By Noel Sheppard | May 17, 2008 - 21:11 ET

Conservative radio talk show host and Constitutional lawyer Mark Levin on Friday called for MSNBC to suspend Keith Olbermann as a result of his deplorable remarks concerning American soldiers and President Bush.

As my colleague Brad Wilmouth reported, Olbermann on Wednesday's "Countdown" "accused the President of 'panoramic and murderous deceit,' and of 'creating' an America that 'includes cold-blooded killers who will kill people to achieve their political objectives.'"

This didn't sit well with Levin who on Friday gave Olbermann the tongue-lashing his employers at MSNBC would give him if they possessed any shred of decency or common sense (audio available here thanks to our friend Johnny Dollar):

Sen. Kennedy recovering in hospital after seizure

BOSTON (AP) - Out of immediate danger, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy remained hospitalized as doctors worked to determine what caused one of the nation's best-known senators to suffer a seizure in his Cape Cod home.

Kennedy, 76, the lone surviving son in a famed political family, was flown Saturday morning to a Boston hospital after becoming ill and being treated at the emergency room of Cape Cod Hospital.

His physician said he did not suffer a stroke, as was first feared, and he recovered enough by Saturday afternoon to watch the Red Sox game on television. His wife, Vicki, his three children and his niece, Caroline Kennedy, among others, joined him at Massachusetts General Hospital.

WASHINGTON (AP) - John McCain is 71 years old, and his age has provided late-night comics with some easy punch lines. On "Saturday Night Live," he joined in.

"I ask you, what should we be looking for in our next president?" McCain said. "Certainly, someone who is very, very, very old."

The certain Republican presidential nominee appeared in a phony campaign ad in which he promised to put an end to runaway government spending, claiming he had never sought money for his home state, Arizona.

I think as people get to know him the age, etc. & Barry's so called charistma won't be factors, as a matter of fact I had a high schooler who saw my McCain button on the subway ask if I had an extra, at that time I didn't. And even Chris Matthews said the college crowd went wild for McCain after his pro life statements!

31,000 Scientists Rejecting Global Warming Theory to be Named Monday

By Noel Sheppard | May 18, 2008 - 17:12 ET

The names of over 31,000 American scientists that reject the theory of anthropogenic global warming are to be revealed on Monday.

Although this will occur at the National Press Club in Washington, DC., it seems a metaphysical certitude media will completely ignore the event.

Isn't it ironic, dontcha think?

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Hot today. People were sweating like George Bush when he heard that gay marriage is legal in California.

The Supreme Court overturned the state’s ban on gay marriage. You though it was hard to be a single girl before. Guys were either gay or married, now they’re gay and married.

John Edwards has officially endorsed Barack Obama. They say the endorsement will help Obama win over Hillary Democrats. Hillary Democrats are those who duck sniper fire while downing whiskey shots.

Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The California Supreme Court overturned the ban on gay marriage. That means after years of struggle, the California gay community can now make the biggest mistake of their lives.

This is what happens when you have a governor who you’ve seen more often shirtless than in a suit.

Outside the courthouse there was a lot of spontaneous crying and decorating.

Late Night with Conan O'Brien

Barack Obama is in the spotlight. Last night he had to apologize for calling a reporter “Sweetie.” Meanwhile, Bill Clinton apologized for calling a reporter when her husband was home.

Last night in an interview with Katie Couric, Hillary Clinton said she would not quit no matter how bad her numbers were. Then Katie Couric said the same thing to Hillary.

The California Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage is legal. Experts called the ruling a great victory for gay Mexicans.

Late Show with David Letterman

Hillary Clinton’s not dropping out. In West Virginia she won big; no delegates, but she won big, and now she goes to South America to continue the campaign . . .

Her campaign is now $21 million in debt. That’s the world’s most expensive fantasy camp.

She thinks there’s a chance. She’s counting on her stimulus check to keep her going.
