Gov. Paterson admits to sex with other woman for years

Monday, March 17th 2008, 9:44 PM
Goldfield for News

The thunderous applause was still ringing in his ears when the state's new governor, David Paterson, told the Daily News that he and his wife had extramarital affairs.

In a stunning revelation, both Paterson, 53, and his wife, Michelle, 46, acknowledged in a joint interview they each had intimate relationships with others during a rocky period in their marriage several years ago.

In the course of several interviews in the past few days, Paterson said he maintained a relationship for two or three years with "a woman other than my wife," beginning in 1999.

Ongoing Blackout of Wright's 9/11 Rant, Only ABC Covers Him Monday
By Brent Baker | March 17, 2008 - 21:40 ET

The broadcast network evening show blackout, of Reverend Jeremiah Wright's 2001 charge that the U.S. earned the 9/11 attacks, continued Monday night as neither CBS nor NBC touched the Wright issue and ABC ran a full story which included Wright's “U.S. of K-K-K-A” hate speech and how Obama has been close to Wright for 20 years, but concluded with how “many African-Americans do not understand” the controversy since the “kind of fiery language Wright uses is not uncommon in black churches.”

The race-based, white-bashing rants may not be so uncommon, but is anti-American shouting -- about how “we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye” and so “America's chickens are coming home to roost” -- so common?

Anchor Charles Gibson set up the story from Jake Tapper by asserting Obama “is being dogged by his pastor's provocative comments.” After the “U.S. of K-K-K-A” soundbite, Tapper pointed out how “Wright has played an important role in Obama's life for 20 years.” Viewers then saw a clip of Obama from June of 2007 giving “a special shout out to my pastor” who's “a friend. And a great leader.” Following some quotes illustrating Obama's awareness a year ago of how Wright's views could prove embarrassing, Tapper ended with how such language is not unusual in black churches.

Obama pastor's theology: Destroy 'the white enemy'
'If God is not for us and against whites ... we had better kill him'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted: March 17, 2008
10:10 pm Eastern

Barack Obama's suddenly radioactive pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, has defended himself against charges of anti-Americanism and racism by referring to his foundational philosophy, the "black liberation theology" of scholars such as James Cone, who regard Jesus Christ as a "black messiah" and blacks as "the chosen people" who will only accept a god who assists their aim of destroying the "white enemy."

"If God is not for us and against white people," writes Cone, "then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill gods who do not belong to the black community."

Wright has not talked to media since video segments of his sermons over the past decade surfaced last week – including one in 2003 in which he encouraged blacks to damn America in God's name. But in a 2007 interview replayed on the Fox News Channel's "Hannity and Colmes" show Friday, he repeatedly fended off Sean Hannity's questions with an appeal to authority, asking if the host had read any of the books of Cone, professor at New York's Union Theological Seminary, or Dwight Hopkins, professor at the University of Chicago's Divinity School, notes the Asia Times columnist who writes under the pseudonym Spengler."

ON DEADLINE: Obama walks arrogance line

By RON FOURNIER, Associated Press Writer
Mon Mar 17, 1:57 AM ET

WASHINGTON - Arrogance is a common vice in presidential politics. A person must be more than a little self-important to wake up one day and say, "I belong in the Oval Office."

But there's a line smart politicians don't cross — somewhere between "I'm qualified to be president" and "I'm born to be president." Wherever it lies, Barack Obama better watch his step.

He's bordering on arrogance.

‘Are we now seeing the Real Obama?’
Election 2008 piece by Sher Zieve
For months Democrat Senator and now presidential nominee-hopeful Barack Hussein Obama has presented himself as the ‘inspirational’ candidate of ‘change’ who would ‘heal the divisiveness in the nation’. However, instead of providing change or healing the nations’ disunity, Obama brings us - via his spiritual mentor whom he has unabashedly praised - old fashioned racism, race-baiting and their subsequent products discord, strife and an even greater call for dissension and conflict.

Despite his protestations to the contrary, now-exposed stealth candidate Obama’s hidden agenda appears to contain these ideologies based upon the acts of rebellion. No wonder the anarchists and Communists love Obama!

To reiterate from my previous columns, Obama’s mentor and preacher Pastor Jeremiah Wright has spewed black-separatist, anti-white, anti-European, anti-USA and pro-African, anti-Semite and pro-Palestinian (Wright even went with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan to Libya) racist messages from his church pulpit for the last 30 years. Although Obama now claims ignorance of the sermons, these hate-filled ‘worship’ services are how Wright established his incendiary reputation.

Obama Supporters Can Say Anything
By Sher Zieve

While the other two presidential candidates are lining up to apologize for anything and everything - that may be even remotely considered negative - said by their supporters against Sen. Barack Obama, Obama and his supporters seem to be able to get away with saying and doing just about anything they want. This includes the further demeaning of and cursing the United States of America. And these come from the pulpit of Obama’s church - Trinity United Church of Christ. And speaking of cursing, let’s take a look at Obama’s proclaimed “spiritual-mentor” for over 20 years - Pastor Jeremiah Wright.

From his church pulpit, Pastor Wright proclaims to his black-separatist congregation that blacks should never sing or pray “God Bless America” but, should think and say “God damn America.” He continued his 2003 speech with: “God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human! God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme!” Then, with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, Pastor Wright visited with terrorist Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi. Pastor Wright is openly anti-Semitic and pro-Palestinian. Wright says of the United States “We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians.” Wright also blames the USA for its being attacked on 9/11/2001 and - like Ward Churchill - says the US “deserved it.”

During his Christmas sermon, Wright commented “Jesus was a poor, black man” (although He was Jewish) who was killed by whites: “The Romans were rich, the Romans were Italian - which means they were European, which means they were white - and the Romans ran everything in Jesus’ country.” Wright then compares Obama’s upbringing to that of Jesus’ and promotes him from the church’s pulpit when he says: “It just came to me with - with - with - within the past few weeks, y’all, why so many folks are hatin’ on Barack Obama. He doesn’t fit the mold. He ain’t white. He ain’t rich. And he ain’t privileged!” Hmmm…I guess Pastor Wright failed to read Obama’s biography.

Obama pastor blames Israel for 9/11

Posted: March 18, 2008

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama's pastor for 20 years, Jeremiah Wright, blamed Israel for the 9/11 attack in a September 2002 sermon.

It's the latest in a series of revelations that have set back the Illinois' senator's seemingly unstoppable quest for the Democratic presidential nomination in the last week.

"I said that dirty word, again," Wright said. "Every time you say 'Israel,' Negroes get awfully quiet on you. 'Cause they scared. Don't be scared. Don't be scared. You don't see the connection between 9/11/01 and the Israel-Palestinian? Something wrong – you wanna borrow my glasses?"

What is exceptional is that Wright is the spiritual father of Barack Obama, the pastor, teacher and mentor who brought Barack into the church, married him and Michelle, baptized their children and has been a confidant to the man who would be America's president.

For 20 years, Barack has attended Wright's church, listened to his weekly sermons, entertained him in his home. Yet, says Barack, he never heard any racist rants at church, nor was he aware that Wright held so poisoned a view of his country.

Sorry, that is not credible. Wright is a famous preacher in black America, and Barack's denial he was aware of his views marks him down either as a dissembler or a man so obtuse he ought not be a security guard at Wal-Mart, let alone president of the United States.

(CNSNews.com) - Reporters covering the United Nations complain that the organization, whose Universal Declaration of Human Rights calls for freedom of the press, has been trying to stifle reporters covering the U.N. itself.

This month, for example, U.N. officials reportedly seized videotapes from journalists who recorded the site of a U.N. helicopter crash in Nepal.

In addition, the group Reporters Without Borders says the U.N. yielded to pressure from certain member countries in refusing to recognize "Freedom of Expression Day."

Obama's Big Speech
By Thomas Lifson
It does not speak well of his campaign's crisis management skills that Barack Obama has taken five days to wheel out his heavy artillery and give a speech today on Jeremiah Wright, Jr. and "the larger issue of race in this campaign" at a venue called the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

<<<JUST WORDS!

Given the opportunity to carefully write and rehearse the delivery of a speech, Obama's verbal presentation skills shine. But talking on his feet, in a press conference or television interview, he is less persuasive.

Rather than get on top of the story, he has unconvincingly argued that he wasn't there when the bad things were said, that Wright is like a crazy uncle, and that we have to remember that the scars of the past have not healed for the older generation. Worst of all, his language has been transparently evasive, making him look like a man with something to hide.

Rick Moran
If you haven't yet read Tom Lifson's excellent piece on what Barack Obama will probably say today to address the crisis in his campaign caused by remarks made by his friend, mentor, and pastor Jeremiah Wright, please do so. It will put into context Obama's huge problem with Wright and more generally, his stance as some kind of "post racial" politician who will heal the divide in American politics.

Jonah Goldberg also has some thoughts on what Obama has to say that would save his candidacy - something at this point many observers believe is on the verge of collapse:

Obama righteously deplores "divisiveness." And yet he literally worships at the altar of division. He wants to transcend race, but his black nationalist church and his liberation theology pastor consider race permanent and central issues.

Text of Barack Obama's Philadelphia speech

Who is Barack Obama?
Posted: March 18, 2008
1:00 am Eastern

Who is Barack Obama? The truth is neither Sen. Obama's supporters nor opponents can answer that question. We know he is bright, eloquent and charismatic. But if he were elected president of the United States, he would be the least-known man to be elected in modern American history, perhaps in all of American history.

That is why the remarks and views of those closest to Sen. Obama take on much more significance than the remarks and views of the people closest to Sens. Hillary Clinton and John McCain. Whether we like or dislike either of those two candidates, we have every reason to believe we know them.

The people closest to Sen. Obama – and by his own account the two greatest living influences on his thinking – are his wife, Michelle, and his pastor, Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. And each of them has made comments about America that could dissuade Americans from voting for Sen. Obama, at least until they can get to know him better.

The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation. -- Barack Obama, Huffington Post, March 14, 2008

The key question before Barack Obama today was the one going to his integrity: was he was telling the truth when he claimed in his HuffPo piece of March 14th that he never heard Wright make, in public or private, the remarks "that are the cause of this controversy"?

I listened carefully. Obama dodged the question.

On Wright, What Took Obama So Long?
By Richard Cohen

Some questions: Why did Barack Obama take so long to "reject outright" the harshly critical statements about America made by his minister, Jeremiah Wright, not to mention the praise the same minister lavished on Louis Farrakhan just last November?

How is it possible that Obama did not know about these remarks when he is a member of Wright's congregation and so close to the man that he likens him to "an old uncle"?

How is it possible that a campaign apparatus that sniffed out Geraldine Ferraro's offensive statement to a local California newspaper (The Daily Breeze, 12th paragraph) did not know that Wright's statements condemning America were all over the Internet and had been cited March 6 by the (reputable) anti-Obama columnist Ronald Kessler? The sermon was also available on YouTube.

I can no more disown [Rev. Wright] than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

Affirmative action foes point to Obama
Say candidate is proof effort no longer needed
Email|Print|Single Page| Text size – + By Joseph Williams and Matt Negrin
Globe Staff And Globe Correspondent / March 18, 2008

WASHINGTON - Leading opponents of affirmative action are increasingly seizing on Illinois Senator Barack Obama's historic run for the presidency as proof that race-based remedies for past discrimination are no longer necessary.

Influential Republicans and a growing number of policy specialists at conservative organizations, including the Goldwater Institute, Project 21, and the Manhattan Institute, are citing the fact that large numbers of white voters are supporting Obama, who leads in the race for Democratic delegates, as evidence that affirmative action has run its course.

Ward Connerly, a black conservative who is leading a national effort to ban racial preferences, vowed to use Obama's success as evidence for anti-affirmative action ballot initiatives his organization is promoting in five states. Connerly, who helped dismantle affirmative action policies in California universities and public hiring in the 1990s, said he has donated $500 to Obama's campaign.

The best of all possible presidents
By Amir Oren

When their helicopter takes off tomorrow for a tour of Israel from the sky, Senator John McCain and Defense Minister Ehud Barak will hope it is a rerun of the 1998 precedent: a flight over Israel by then-governor George W. Bush, who later went on to win the presidency. He was with his host, then-foreign minister Ariel Sharon, who became prime minister (with the help of Barak and his permit for Sharon to ascend the Temple Mount).

American voters (such selfish types) are also concerned with issues of economy and society, spirit and atmosphere, which may tip the balance in favor of whoever becomes the Democratic candidate, whether Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. But as far as Israel is concerned, and in view of the candidates' current positions - no one is better than McCain. The Republican candidate is clearly more qualified than his rivals to be commander in chief - in theory of the American armed forces only, but in practice also of the international alliance against radical states and terrorist organizations. McCain has a deep understanding of the region's strategic problems and publicly supports a nuclear deterrent for Israel.

McCain visited Israel many times as part of Congressional delegations. His first visit was in 1979, when he was not yet an elected official, but a Navy captain, the Navy's liaison officer to the Senate. At the time, he was accompanying Senator Henry "Scoop" Jackson. Israelis, whether out of laziness or arrogance, do not often follow a well-known Washington rule: It is always worth investing even in the low-level members of a delegation accompanying a VIP - the executive assistant, the policy adviser or the escort officer - because at some point they will rise in the ranks of the armed forces, civil service or Congress, and they will remember the treatment they received when they were junior in rank.

Re-examining Barack Obama's Jeremiah Wright damage control speech today, I am drawn back again and again to this paragraph.

Like other predominantly black churches across the country, Trinity embodies the black community in its entirety – the doctor and the welfare mom, the model student and the former gang-banger. Like other black churches, Trinity's services are full of raucous laughter and sometimes bawdy humor. They are full of dancing, clapping, screaming and shouting that may seem jarring to the untrained ear. The church contains in full the kindness and cruelty, the fierce intelligence and the shocking ignorance, the struggles and successes, the love and yes, the bitterness and bias that make up the black experience in America.
Any church embodies the community from which it is drawn, but Obama attempts sleight of hand when he asserts that "other predominantly black churches across the country" adopt and share views "that may seem jarring to the untrained ear" as a way of excusing his pastor.

Fed Cuts Rates by 3/4 Percentage Point

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Federal Reserve on Tuesday slashed a key interest rate by three- fourths of a percentage point, moving aggressively to contain a credit crisis threatening to push the country into a severe recession.
The latest action brought the federal funds rate—the interest that banks charge each other—down to 2.25 percent, the lowest point since late 2004. It marked the second back-to-back cuts of three-fourths of a percentage point.

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and his colleages have now cut the funds rate six times since last September, with the reductions becoming more aggressive since January as the central bank has faced growing turmoil in global financial markets.

Even as Barack Obama tries to focus his campaign away from racially charged remarks by his former pastor, the Democrat senator could become haunted by his call last year to fire radio host Don Imus.........

"I understand MSNBC has suspended Mr. Imus," Obama told ABC News in a story dated April 11, 2007, "but I would also say that there's nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group. And I would hope that NBC ends up having that same attitude."

"He didn't just cross the line," Obama said. "He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America. The notions that as young African-American women – who I hope will be athletes – that that somehow makes them less beautiful or less important. It was a degrading comment. It's one that I'm not interested in supporting."

Howard Dean and the 1850s: Convenient Racial Revisionism
By Brian Melton | View comments | Print This Post Print This Post

Howard Dean has recently demonstrated conclusively that historical ignorance doesn’t stop with teenage mall-rats and muscle-bound jocks. In fact, it runs all the way up into the very heart of the DNC. The good doctor (who hopefully knows more about his profession than he does about history) has made the claim that the Republican Party “looks like the 1950s and talks like the 1850s.” The 1950s aside, Dean, of course, is attempting to smear the Republicans as a party of racists who are defending systematic public discrimination. In this he displays a shocking lack of knowledge, not only of the Republicans, but also of the shameful history of his own party.

Most liberals today loudly proclaim the Democrats to be the party of minorities and the Republicans to be the party of racist oppressors. I’m reminded of a ridiculous comment from another less-than-aware liberal icon, Bill Maher. Maher commented on one Republican national convention by saying that “the last time the Republicans had that many black people on stage, they were selling them.” Anyone — Dean or Maher — who can make such a statement with a straight face should be sent to a corner with a good, basic textbook (or at least should limit themselves to commentaries on the failures of the American educational system, of which they are manifestly victims).

So, what do Republicans from the 1850s talk like?...........

Obama Speech Makes Presidential Campaign About Race -- and Guilt
March 18, 2008

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: In Florida, they said they're not going to redo the vote. Michigan says today they're probably not going to redo theirs. Then you got this Obama speech today, and this speech was typical Obama, in many ways. The reaction to it was, wow, how well he spoke. So Hillary is sitting in her hotel room or wherever she was watching this thing, and she's saying, "Oh, I'm melting! I'm melting!" The house is just about to fall on her here. I'm sure that's what she thinks. But here's the question. After watching this speech today -- and I've got many comments about it obviously, as many people do and will -- the Democrats have to ask themselves a question today. Do they really want the presidential campaign to be about race, because Barack Obama has made it now about race. He has essentially, in not disavowing and distancing himself from Jeremiah Wright, who, by the way, I think the correct way to understand Jeremiah Wright, and the way people are reacting to him is not in a racial manner. This is a man who hates the country.

Jeremiah Wright is a hatemonger. He hates America. It is patently obvious. Barack Obama sought to excuse that today in ways that I found a little bit troubling, blamed it on his generation. Well, he grew up in the fifties and sixties, and that's what America was then. Well, there were a lot of blacks who grew up in the fifties and sixties who have not become Jeremiah Wright. Just because you grew up in the fifties and sixties does not entitle you to hate the country and not try to move forward and build a ministry around it.
It's essentially a political movement disguised as a ministry based on the hatred of America. When I watch tapes of Reverend Wright's speeches, I don't see the congregation upset about it. I see them applauding and doing all kind of things. Obama made it plain today, folks, that the future of America rests on one thing, and that's racial division being healed, and which would be great if it would happen. Those of us my age, my generation have been hoping and praying to get rid of race as a dividing issue and as an identity issue in politics and in our culture for as long as I've been an adult, thinking and caring about these things. But there's an entire race industry on the left that will not allow that to happen. You know the kind of people I'm talking about. It's become very profitable for them.

There's a lot of wealth to be generated in the race business. So the idea that America began as imperfect and now only Obama can make it perfect -- well, not only him, but his candidacy is about that. He said at the beginning of his speech, he said we need to perfect the union because it was left imperfect at the time of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and he said that we all want to move in the same direction. Well, we don't want to move in the same direction. You have to listen to this and read between the lines. Of course we want to move in the same direction of prosperity and health. The debate that liberals and conservatives have had over what kind of country we want to be has never changed, it's just how do we get there. Obama laid it out pretty well today how he wants to get there. He is an ultra-liberal. He sees soup line America in every group of people. At the same time he's talking about ending the racial divide, he still shows us how Democrats see people: The white woman who can't bust the glass ceiling, the black this, the Hispanic immigrant there. He sees everybody as members of groups, while decrying victimology, basically promoted it in his speech today.

Racists endorse Obama on candidate's website
New Black Panther Party condemns 'white men,' Jews, praises candidate

By Aaron Klein

Just as Sen. Barack Obama sought to distance himself from controversial racial remarks made by his pastor, an anti-American government, anti-white and virally anti-Semitic black supremacist party has endorsed the presidential candidate on Obama's own website.
Congressional Hispanic Caucus wants to bring back amnesty this year
"Obama will stir the 'Melting Pot' into a better 'Molten America,'" states an endorsement from the New Black Panther Party, or NBPP, which is a registered team member and blogger on Obama's "MyObama" campaign website.

The NBPP is a controversial black extremist party whose leaders are notorious for their racist statements and for leading anti-white activism.

More From Obama's Pastor: U.S. a Racist Superpower
Obama Calls Pastor's Remarks 'Divisive' But Says Rev. Wright Is Like Family

In a harsh condemnation of his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Sen. Barack Obama said Rev. Wright used "incendiary language to express views that have the potential not only to widen the racial divide but views that denigrate both the greatness and the goodness of our nation; that rightly offend white and blacks alike."

Obama's Pastor: U.S. a Racist Superpower

In a speech this morning at the National Constitution Center, Sen. Obama said he had been present when Rev. Wright made some of his "controversial" sermons. He said Wright's sermons went beyond a "religious leader's effort to speak out against perceived injustice. Instead, they expressed a profoundly distorted view of this country -- a view that sees white racism as endemic, and that elevates what is wrong with America above all that we know is right with America."

But Obama stopped short of fully disowning the controversial minister . "I can no more disown him that I can disown the black community," he said.

A Speech That Fell Short
By Michael Gerson

WASHINGTON -- Barack Obama has run a campaign based on a simple premise: that words of unity and hope matter to America. Now he has been forced by his charismatic, angry pastor to argue that words of hatred and division don't really matter as much as we thought.

Obama's Philadelphia speech made this argument as well as it could be made. <<<JUST WORDS.. He condemned the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's views in strong language -- and embraced Wright as a wayward member of the family. He made Wright and his congregation a symbol of both the nobility and "shocking ignorance" of the African-American experience -- and presented himself as a leader who transcends that conflicted legacy. The speech recognized the historical reasons for black anger -- and argued that the best response to those grievances is the adoption of Obama's own social and economic agenda.

It was one of the finest political performances under pressure since John F. Kennedy at the Greater Houston Ministerial Association in 1960. It also fell short in significant ways. ...

OBAMA SPEECH REACTION:

Thomas Sowell likened Obama to a con man:

Someone once said that a con man's job is not to convince skeptics but to enable people to continue to believe what they already want to believe.
Accordingly, Obama's Philadelphia speech — a theatrical masterpiece — will probably reassure most Democrats and some other Obama supporters. They will undoubtedly say that we should now "move on," even though many Democrats have still not yet moved on from George W. Bush's 2000 election victory.

Like the Soviet show trials during their 1930s purges, Obama's speech was not supposed to convince critics but to reassure supporters and fellow-travelers, in order to keep the "useful idiots" useful.

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Barack Obama was on Nightline last night, and the cohost, Terry Moran said, "If I went to a church where white supremacy was preached, what would you think of me?"

OBAMA: I disagree with you, though, Terry, that's not what's preached at Trinity, and that I think -- that is an easy equivalence that is not at all what is taking place there. If you look at the sermons, even the most offensive ones that are at issue, he is he is condemning right racism as he defines it, but he's not condemning the white race. He is not suggesting that blacks are superior. What he's saying is that this -- that white racism is endemic in this society.

RUSH: Probably got a point there. A better question would have been, "What if I went to a church that preached separatism? What if I went to a church and my preacher was just filled with rage and hate, what would you think about that?" But clearly whites are the problem, as far as Jeremiah Wright is concerned. Then Obama says this about the O.J. Simpson trial.

OBAMA: You remember when during the O.J. trial, there was a similar moment when the culture -- you know, black and white culture just had these completely opposite reactions, and nobody understood it. And, by the way, I'm somebody who was pretty clear that O.J. was guilty. And I was ashamed for my own community to respond in that way. But I also understood what was taking place, which was that reaction had more to do with a sense that somehow the criminal justice system historically had been biased so profoundly that a defeat of that justice system was somehow a victory.

Did Obama blow his chance?
Thomas Lifson
Noel Sheppard of Newsbusters thinks Barack Obama blew his big chance with yesterday's speech, justifying instead of rejecting his Pastor's hateful rhetoric, and offers an example of what the candidate could have said to pull his chestnuts out of the fire:

Rev. Jeremiah Wright has been part of my life for twenty years, and no one has had a bigger impact on my faith than he. However, I am quitting his church, because his kind of hateful rhetoric is part of the problem in our country, and race relations will never improve as long as black people condone speeches that continually blame white people and the United States for all the world's ills.

America has given me, my wife, and my family almost unthinkable opportunities, and we are extraordinarily grateful. Such is available to all in our nation that are willing to work hard. In fact, what the success of my presidential campaign up to this point demonstrates is that Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream is very close to becoming a reality.

This past week was not an exemplary moment for the man who has prided himself on integrity and honesty throughout this campaign. The fact is that the senator has no plausible excuse for why he remained a member of Rev. Wright's church. He and his family should have immediately left that congregation for the embrace of a church that teaches the Bible rather than the alienation, lunacy and outright mockery of Christian teachings.

Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, presidential candidate Barack Obama's church home, is launching a new elementary school named after an African revolutionary and promises not to give children the alphabet, reading and writing, but "African-centered teaching."

The new Kwame Nkrumah Academy, which offers only a static web page with nominal information about its plans, was promoted in the Palm Sunday bulletin at Trinity. It proposes to start offering classes to kindergartners and first-graders this fall.

According to a proposed agreement with the Chicago public schools published last fall, the new academy will be operated by Trinity Community Development Corp., which shares the same street address at the church.

The Real Agenda of Black Liberation Theology
By Jeffrey Schmidt

Now, suddenly, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright is misunderstood.Suddenly, so-called black liberation theology is misunderstood

Wright's successor at Trinity United Church of Christ, the Reverend Otis Moss III, won't bow to the wishes of "they" to shut up. It begs the question: "Who are they?" The larger white cultural? Or liberals and Democrats who see all this unfavorable publicity hurting the election chances of Barack Obama?

The sad truth is that neither the Reverend Wright nor black liberation theology is being misunderstood. Both, thanks to the candidacy of Barack Obama, are being exposed. God, in fact, works in mysterious ways. And unless it's the aforementioned liberals and Democrats who are trying to hush up Wright, Moss and others of their ilk, sensible Americans want to hear more, for knowledge is power, the power to combat hate.

McCain Backs Israeli Reprisals in Gaza
By IAN DEITCH
Wednesday, March 19, 2008
Touring a war-battered town, Sen. John McCain said Wednesday he understands Israel's tough response to Palestinian rocket fire, adding that there is no point in negotiating with the Gaza Strip's Islamic Hamas regime.

The Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting also praised the moderate Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, saying he is committed to reaching a peace deal with Israel _ though McCain is not meeting Palestinians this time.

McCain's visit to Israel is part of a weeklong trip through the Middle East and Europe. After a day of meetings with Israeli leaders, he visited Sderot, the southern Israeli border town that has been the target of thousands of crude Palestinian rockets in recent years.

Gallup reveals statistically significant Democrat deficit

The bottom has dropped out for Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama with a new Gallup daily tracking poll showing him trailing both Hillary Clinton and GOP hopeful John McCain one day after the Illinois senator's refusal to condemn his longtime pastor who suggested the U.S. launched AIDS to decimate blacks.

The new results from Gallup show Clinton with a 49 percent to 42 percent lead over Obama in a national Democratic voters' presidential nomination preference tally.

"This is the first time Clinton has held a statistically significant lead in over a month," the Gallup report said. "She last led Obama in Feb. 7-9 polling, just after the Super Tuesday primaries. Since then, the two candidates have usually been in a statistical tie, but Obama has held a lead in several of the polls, most recently in March 11-13 polling."

It's Time to Call the Democrats on Race Demagogy
By James Lewis

.....The Reverend Jeremiah Wright is a very popular preacher of racial anger in Chicago. So is Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, Cynthia McKinney, Professor Nikki Giovanni at Virginia Tech and far too many others. They always get favorable media coverage, because they are speaking for the Left.

If you look at conservative blacks, you see exactly the opposite: there are no more positive and constructive people in America than Justice Clarence Thomas, SecState Condi Rice, Thomas Sowell, Lt. Col. Allan West, Larry Elder, and millions more who are never puffed up by the media.

So the Left, and its mouthpiece the Democrats, have chosen the destructive demagogues and not the peace makers. So be it. But it's high time to call them on it. Voters must finally send that clear and unmistakable message: If you peddle hate, you don't get my vote.

Most of the media and their fellow liberals were positively giddy over Barack Obama's speech Tuesday, all but comparing it to the Sermon on the Mount.

I won't deny it was a masterful piece of oratory -- the man can be spellbinding -- but when you stop to consider what Sen. Obama was really doing up there on the podium, invoking the specter of slavery and Jim Crow and the era of "whites only," it becomes clear that it was a con job designed to make the voters as giddy as he knew his worshippers in the submissive media would be.

The speech was meant to be an explanation and expiation of his guilt for his years of remaining mute in the face of the outrageous anti-Americanism spewed by his pastor and bosom buddy, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The owner of a famous cheesesteak shop did not discriminate when he posted signs asking customers to speak English, a city panel ruled Wednesday.

In a 2-1 vote, a Commission on Human Relations panel found that two signs at Geno's Steaks telling customers, "This is America: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH,'" do not violate the city's Fair Practices Ordinance.

Shop owner Joe Vento has said he posted the signs in October 2005 because of concerns over immigration reform and an increasing number of people in the area who could not order in English.

Did Obama Misrepresent Grandmother's Fear of Black Men on the Street?

One of the more controversial statements from Barack Obama's speech on Tuesday was his reference to his white grandmother's "fear of black men who passed by her on the street."

Curiously, his most recent account of her anxieties don't mesh with what he wrote about this subject in his 1996 book "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance."

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows John McCain’s lead growing against both potential Democratic opponents. McCain currently leads Barack Obama 49% to 42% and Hillary Clinton 51% to 41% margin (see recent daily results). African-American support for Clinton has collapsed, falling to 55% in the general election match-up. Obama, on the other hand, earns solid support from African-American voters but attracts only 36% of white voters in a match-up with McCain.

Over the past month, McCain has gained ground in Ohio, Michigan, Colorado, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania. Both Democrats continue to lead in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and California (see summary of recent state general election polling).

On the fifth anniversary of the War in Iraq, the candidates all had something to say on the topic but the politics of the issue have become much more complicated (see Video.) Joe Conason offers a commentary on The Folks Who Brought You Iraq.

Obama church published Hamas terror manifesto
Compares charter calling for murder of Jews to Declaration of Independence
Posted: March 20, 2008
12:45 pm Eastern
JERUSALEM – Sen. Barack Obama's Chicago church reprinted a manifesto by Hamas that defended terrorism as legitimate resistance, refused to recognize the right of Israel to exist and compared the terror group's official charter – which calls for the murder of Jews – to America's Declaration of Independence.

The Hamas piece was published on the "Pastor's Page" of the Trinity United Church of Christ newsletter reserved for Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., whose anti-American, anti-Israel remarks landed Obama in hot water, prompting the presidential candidate to deliver a major race speech earlier this week.

Hamas, responsible for scores of shootings, suicide bombings and rocket launchings against civilian population centers, is listed as a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department.

It Isn't Obama's Race, But His Socialism and Defeatism That Are His Problems
By Mary Mostert (03/20/08)

First Barack Obama tells us that he "didn't know" what Jeremiah Wright, his pastor at Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ was preaching, in spite of attending his church for 20 years. Yesterday he tells us, in effect, that really he DID know what the Rev. Wright was preaching and it merely reflects "the complexities of race in this country that we have never worked through." Now he tells us a "legacy of defeat" that blacks in this country supposedly represent, also includes most of the rest of the population "segments of the white community, working and middle class" people with an "immigrant background", the jobless or those who have lost jobs and, of course, women.

Who is the guilty party in this defeat litany and with most of the US population having a legacy of defeat? And, how did this country become the strongest and wealthiest nation in the entire world? According to Obama "the real culprit" is a "corporate culture rife with inside dealing, questionable accounting practices, and short-term greed; a Washington dominated by lobbyists and special interests; economic policies that favor the few over the many."

What both Obama and Wright are really saying is that, by destroying or rigidly controlling or heavily taxing corporations, somehow more jobs are created and all other problems magically disappear. What history has shown, and is still showing, is that nations that use the "victim" argument to enlarge government and make government the primary employer and controller, which is of course socialism, end up with the exact opposite result than they expected.

The Wright Stand
Judgment, character and Barack Obama.

By Peter Wehner

Several years ago my wife and children attended a Presbyterian church in Washington, D.C. We liked and respected the senior pastor, we had close friends in the congregation, and we felt spiritually nourished by the congregants and the worship. Two of our children were baptized there.

Not long after the attacks of September 11, my wife and I heard two different visitors — one in remarks during a church service, the other while teaching an adult Sunday-school class — that were derogatory of and inflammatory toward Israel.

Upon hearing the words of these two people — which I found both shocking and disquieting — I immediately raised concerns with the senior pastor. He tried to reassure me and then put me in touch with an associate pastor who was in charge of a ministry to Palestinian Christians (one I had been previously unaware of). I engaged in conversations and written correspondence with the associate pastor and the head of the board of elders over this issue; in the process, I discovered that our church hosted an annual conference which featured only speakers who were highly critical of the state of Israel. For the first time it became clear to me that the church we attended was deeply biased against the Jewish state. When what we deemed to be adequate counter steps were not taken, we left the church, in good measure because of this matter and how it was handled.

Obama: Grandma 'Typical White Person' Fearing Everyone She Doesn't Know

It seems the more Barack Obama tries to explain the peculiar statement he made Tuesday concerning his white grandmother's "fear of black men who passed by her on the street," the more he's assuring attention regarding the matter.

Though it remains to be seen how much focus a media clearly looking to move beyond this subject will give, Obama called into a Philadelphia sports radio station on Thursday making comments that, if publicized, might get him in even more trouble with white voters.
